Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Thanks for the response, it was interesting to read. It's good to hear from a real gamer what he (or she) liked so much about it. I do think the cooperative experience (possibly with someone familiar with it) would have helped a lot. I wanted to like the game, I tried but just couldn't. I might go ...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Journey (PlayStation 3) - (maybe with some narration) I have enormous respect and admiration that Journey doesn't feel the need to entertain you with its mechanics or tell you what to do before pushing your dopamine buttons. In fact, it deliberately frustrates you at various points in ord...

Thats right, it's on PS4 but it's also got PC cross play.

Re: Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition

That sounds like fun! Best times I had with the game were in the C&R lobby and I've dipped back in recently to try out my stick. I'm supposed to be out this Tuesday but I'd be up for the one after.

Re: Shmups

No, it's a pretty hardcore place. I attempted to get involved there but it's a pretty stale community, unfortunately. A lot of the guys who are working hard to promote shmups and welcome new players have abandoned it because of the tone there. It's a shame because it's an amazing repository for info...

Yeah, he's one of the top Western arcade game/shmup players. Probably top three for shmups along with Jaimers and Gus.

Re: Shmups

Not played that one but I have heard it's got a couple of neat twists to it. I've been extremely back on my Mushihimesama Futari bullshit. I hadn't played for ages because I broke my 360 stick but since I put together the new one, I've had little interest in anything else! I always felt my previous ...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread

I don't know what this is worth but I was talking to a guy elsewhere who used to be a game dev in Japan at a large company (he didn't want to give details) and he said the working practices over there and, particularly, the management style mean that it's virtually impossible to get things done effe...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I'm also in a bit of a lull myself. I'm playing quite a few different things but nothing completely has its hooks into me: Ghost of Tsushima - Very beautiful and has satisfying combat but I'm not inclined to really do anything in the world after ten years or so hours. Most of the mission content fee...

Re: Microsoft Xbox news and discussion thread

It does seem like there are three separate approaches these days, and I really like that. Sony - Buy our box, buy our games. MS - Sub to GP, choose a device to suit your needs. Nintendo - Buy our unique device, buy our unique games (sometimes again). My wishlist for each would be: MS - Some more fir...

I'm watching the Maximilian stream for the pre-show which adds a bit of energy and entertainment. Seems the actual game announcements are starting now though.

Re: Video game tie-in media

I think the DS and BB ones would be better if they had a any FROM input at all. I totally agree that the TLOU comics are really good.

Re: What's Out This Week?

I'm going to make a big call here but unless Nintendo announce something, I don't think I'll be buying a new game now until the next consoles hit. I'm saving replays of FF7R and TLOU2 for the PS5 but I'll be happy polishing off some PS4 exclusives (Spider-Man, God of War, Death Stranding and playing...

Re: Ghost of Tsushima

I am nicely surprised that it's better than I expected. It is very much AC: Odyssey - Samurai Edition, but the combat is significantly better, enemies are vulnerable but tough, and there are a number of QoL improvements plus a much tidier HUD system. I find it extremely relaxing, as well. The combin...

Re: Shmups

Have you put any buttons on the side of the enclosure, btw? Start/Options, Select/Share, that sort of thing? Or just the eight on top and some blanks on the side? ...An even shorter throw? Heresy! :o No soldering, a real bonus, especially after buggering up my 360 PCB. This was literally fool-proof...

Re: Shmups

First of all, congrats on the new custom stick! Looks wonderfully clean and I'd be interested to know where you bought the custom parts and everything. Love the UFB compatibility, too. Was it difficult to put together? Thanks! It was very straightforward, in fact. The enclosure I got has the mounti...

Re: Shmups

I tried to fit my LS-62-01 and realised that it doesn't work in terms of cabling with my stick. Hope it works out somehow. And sure enough, I tried it in my new stick this morning and it's superb. I think it's because the mounting is completely flush on the new one, it's a better height. Maybe beca...

Totally agree. And also much easier to swap bits and bobs around if you're a relentless tinkerer.
