Re: Our next-but-one podcast recording (6.1.19) - Issue 352: Virginia
Is it fair to judge one walking simulator against another, when they all strive to do such differing things with the medium? Perhaps not. Am I going to in the interest of making numbered lists? Yes, absolutely. Virginia would be fairly low on that list, but as with many of its kin, it is a short eno...

Re: Our next podcast recording (23.9.18) - 338: Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice
While I enjoyed the story and gameplay overall, I didn't connect with it to the degree that others have, so I won't go into those aspects. Instead what excites me most about Hellblade is the potential that it shows within this medium, and what we can hopefully see more of going forward. Hellblade fe...

Re: Comic Book Chatter
I've been reading a bunch of non-superhero stuff lately, which I may go into more some other time, but last week I picked up the first two hardcover volumes of Spider-Gwen, and finished the first. I really enjoyed it, it has enough of the familiar beats of Spiderman stories, but feels fresh and exci...

Re: Books completed (2018)
This year has been pretty good for me for reading. I've never been a huge reader, but definitely fell off the past couple years, and this year I've made a point to seek out and read more stuff. I don't remember the exact order that I read these in, but I'll try to keep it somewhat chronological: Kil...

Re: Your Top 50 Games of All Time Lists
last night I was discussing the list I made on here with a friend, and it got me thinking about making a top 50 list for all games, not just video games. TOP 50: Star Wars Roleplaying Game: Saga Edition Star Wars Edge of the Empire Star Wars Destiny Spelunky Super Mario Strikers Life is Strange: Bef...

Re: Your Top 50 Games of All Time Lists
I loved Bioshock Infinite, certainly more than what I've played of the other two Bioshocks, but not quite enough to make it into the top 50.

Re: Our next podcast recording (18.3.18) - 311: Actual Sunlight
I played Actual Sunlight on August 14, 2015. This isn't some fact that I hold onto, I just looked at the trophies on the Vita, but I knew it was a fair bit of time ago, and wanted to know where I would've been in my life at that time. August of 2015 would have been the start of my second and last ye...

Re: BioShock, BioShock 2 and BioShock Infinite (SPOILERS)
Probably too late for this to make the recording time, but I'll toss in my thoughts on the game anyway: I just played the game for the first time about a month ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. The combat felt visceral and fast paced for the majority of the time. I think there were maybe two or three t...

Re: Our next podcast recording (12.8.17): Super Mario Kart
Super is up there with DS for my favorite feeling Mario Kart, but only when played well. As soon as any mistakes are made and you end up in the grass or water, you may as well reset the SNES. I'd like to see Nintendo revisit the more arcade-y style of this entry, where skill is more rewarded than lu...

Re: Our next podcast recording (5.8.17): Super Hexagon
I put Super Hexagon right next to Tetris. Maybe just a little below. If Tetris were a wise old wizard that could help you defeat the dragon through patience and careful planning, Super Hexagon is that wizard's hip younger nephew-in-law (who is also a wizard). He'll die to the dragon, taking you all ...

Re: Annoying Gaming Lexicon
I used to call the square button on Playstation controllers 'box'. I've never heard it called that outside my family, so its pretty well beaten out of my vocabulary by now, but occasionally if I'm just playing games with my brother I'll still refer to it as box.

Re: Our next podcast recording (29.7.17): Until Dawn
What sticks out most to me about Until Dawn is the connection between the mechanics and characters. Upon starting the game with my brother and friends, we quickly singled out who we most wanted to save, and who we would probably get killed. While I certainly still had my favorites by the end, I trie...

Re: Our next-but-one podcast recording (8.7.17): Life Is Strange
I played through Life Is Strange at probably the perfect time in my life. I was just starting my 4th semester at college, where I was unhappy with my major and on the verge of changing it, though unsure to what at the time. I connected with the characters and the setting almost immediately. I can re...

Re: Our next-but-one podcast recording (15.4.17) - Diablo III / Reaper of Souls
I got Diabo III for my birthday of 2014 on the PS4, and it was probably among the first 5 retail games I owned for the system. This was my first entry in the series, though I have played a few other loot heavy games, such as Borderlands and Dungeon Defenders. My main interest in asking for the game ...

Re: Book Recommendations
Yeah, I've heard of John Dies At the End, it's written by one of the Cracked regulars isn't it? Yep! David Wong, their executive editor. I'm not sure if we're also allowed to recommend graphic novels here, but I recently read Lost At Sea by Bryan Lee O'Malley (the Scott Pilgrim creator), and I thou...

Re: Gone Home
Using all my graphic design education thus far, I made some info-graphics that sort of go with my post above, giving my thoughts on the structure of various walking simulators. I don't think any actually spoil anything (except maybe in the last one), but I've put them in spoiler thingys just in case...

Re: Gone Home
I had a similar experience to Luke in that I had heard a lot of praise for Gone Home, but didn't really know what it was about, and had either gotten it in a steam sale or bundle, where it sat for a while before finally playing. Gone Home is an excellent example of storytelling in video games. Thoug...
