Re: Games Completed 2023

Jan 8: Densetsu no Stafy Jan 10: Parodius 2: Fantastic Journey Jan 26: Parodius: Non-Sense Fantasy So this is the first of the Super Famicom trilogy but the second in the series as a whole and this was similar to Fantastic Journey in some ways but still had enough things to make it stand out. It wa...

Re: What's Out This Week?

I loved Braid, and was excited for the remastered Anniversary edition (which is probably never coming out at this point) until Jonathan Blow blocked me on Twitter for calling out his anti-vax bullshit. The prick. Ugh, Twitter was a mistake. We were never meant to be allowed direct access to the tho...

Re: What's Out This Week?

Yeah, I remember it was not wholly negative with some of the cast liking it but even hearing from those who did not get on with it made me feel less like a culture-less pleb I suppose. Honestly might give this another listen soon, just an entertaining analysis all around.

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Since I accidentally started going through the Parodius trilogy by playing the second one first, I decided to tackle the first game properly now: Parodius! From Myth to Laughter. It is fairly similar to the second title except far less characters to choose from and maybe a tad bit easier. However sa...

Re: What's Out This Week?

Will definitely miss Josh and Darren's contributions, all the best to both. Goldeneye episode's a favourite of mine, as is the Braid one where they both respectfully trash an indie darling haha. Lots of great stuff over the years. Oh the Braid episode is one of my favourite entries of the C&R p...

Re: Games Completed 2023

Jan 8: Densetsu no Stafy Jan 10: Parodius 2: Fantastic Journey Only realised later on that this is the second game of the Parodius trilogy that released on the Super Famicom. This is a silly but challenging shooter which I had a lot of trouble with at the beginning but when I got around to understa...

Re: Games Completed 2023

Jan 8: Densetsu no Stafy This was a nice competent platformer which somehow never made it outside of Japan. It is basically Kirby in that is cute and not too hard but with a more heavy emphasis on dialogue and puzzle solving. One amusing factor is that since much of the game takes place underwater,...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Since the team is tackling Parodius this year, I thought I would try it out so I have been playing Gokujo Parodius – Pursuing the Past Glory . Being a complete newcomer to shmups of any kind, it is kicking my arse. I was not prepared for one hit and game over but that was silly on my part. Shmups ar...

Re: My 5 favourite and 1 least favourite games I've finished this year

Good points to follow on all of these especially playing in handheld and just dropping something if you aren't enjoying it! Yes, the Mario RPGs are really charming and I am probably closest to the end on both of those. I did just complete Super Paper Mario and Bowser's Inside Story in 2021 so maybe...

Re: My 5 favourite and 1 least favourite games I've finished this year

My negative is just all the RPG/JRPGs I sunk hours into but didn't complete....I think in 2023 I just need to stay away from them and focus on <20 hour narrative experiences to get my most enjoyment. No joke this is the list, and I probably averaged 20 hours for each. Bravely Default Chrono Cross R...

Re: My 5 favourite and 1 least favourite games I've finished this year

2022 was largely a really nice year for me gaming wise so I will just pick out the five that I really liked and talk about them here. 5. Wonderful 101 Remastered: I was happy that this got a release outside of the Wii U and was extra happy when C&R covered it. The abilities of each character are...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

After a slow start, Yakuza 5 is really starting to grow on me. One of the reasons why is that a feature I thought I was not going to like, taxi driving, is a weird mix of relaxing and stressful that it makes it fairly compelling. In fact, the taxi and racing missions are similar to the Cabaret Club ...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I always thought open world might be the best way to make Sonic work in 3D. Large expansive environments where you are free to speed around just sounds right for the character. My last title this year is also a Sega title. I decided to finally tackle the behemoth that is Yakuza 5. Wise of me to star...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Still on my platformer kick with Sackboy: A Big Adventure . Since I was never good enough at creating levels in LittleBigPlanet, I was happy that a cute little guy like Sackboy got his own proper adventure made by people far more talented than myself. It is a fairly basic 3D platformer in the style ...

Re: 550: A Short Hike

This chill adventure through a national park with Animal Crossing type characters and aesthetics was a lovely little treat. The main protagonist being a bird was a genius touch as flying and gliding around the island made navigation a true joy. Everytime I got a golden feather and found I could clim...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Just went through and finished Crash 3 of the N-Sane trilogy. As a casual play through, definitely the easiest game of the trilogy. Only a few levels really gave me trouble such as the motorcycle stages. The double jump and spin jump also are nice additions to the movepool. But overall, Crash 2 migh...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Just finished up Crash Bandicoot 2 on the N-Sane Trilogy. Enjoyed it way more than the first one. The new jumping physics still take some getting used to and some of the later levels were real tough to nail down but still more manageable than Crash 1 overall. Onto Crash 3 now. This was my favourite ...

Re: Your videogame ideas...

Some ideas I have had brewing in my head for the longest time include: - A 3D platformer with a claymation aesthetic. With modern technology, something like this could look amazing. Maybe the protagonist can be someone like Morph from those old shorts in the seventies and you can change both the env...
