Re: Whatcha Been Watching?
We binged all three seasons of Succession recently. Totally agree with all of the praise here - absolute masterpiece as far as I'm concerned. We've also been watching Yellowjackets . Absolutely gripped by the premise and the pilot episode, and the cast is pretty great, but 5 or 6 episodes in and it'...

Re: Elden Ring
I made a purely subjective point about preferring the atmosphere and exploration in BotW and finding ER a bit bleak and drab in comparison.I should say again that I only mentioned BotW because it was brought up by KM in a 'this is better because...' comparison

Re: Elden Ring
I've not played a Souls game before- will I like this? I'm getting put off by the difficulty. Some say this is the hardest Souls game they've played. I love open-world games, such ask Skyrim and BOTW. I'm currently having a blast playing Horizon: Forbidden West. It's a vibrant, beautiful game with ...

Re: Elden Ring
I'm completely gripped and frankly amazed by how much variety is in here. I basically ignored KissMammal's criticisms of the world but at this point, I really feel sorry for the poor sod. Why would you be sorry? Dark Souls games have a particular aesthetic and a typical style of game world and a to...

Re: Elden Ring
I should add, went in with good intentions. I know what these games are like so I took it slow, took plenty of time to explore etc, but its (imo) far too hard for anyone's first Souls game experience. Even when trying to fight defensively and not go in too hard, dodging and blocking seem almost enti...

Re: Elden Ring
Bought it. Gave it a good shake (5-6 hours). I had a few moments of enjoyment, but mostly just found it a tedious slog. Refunded it. Everything about it seems deliberately designed to be offputting and obtuse, down to the incredibly fiddly controls and UI which often seem like something from the ps1...

Apparently a reveal is coming soon. I think I heard sometime in March?

Re: Bringing back your favourites... Which is it?
Yep. I'd argue that Chrono Trigger has never been widely available in the UK outside of the inferior mobile port a (now rare) DS port and a PS1 port cursed with slow loading times. And to add to that - retro RPGs are the exact kind of game that I'd only ever want to play on a portable, and are a pe...

Re: Elden Ring
It looks intriguing, but as someone who has now bought Dark Souls three times on three different platforms and bounced off it hard every time, I'm a little wary.

Re: Bringing back your favourites... Which is it?
Define 'easily accessible'. I remember a few months back Square were teasing new versions of the classic 8/16bit Final Fantasy games (presumably using the original graphics and fonts rather than the 'enhanced' versions commonly available) but only on Steam and mobile(?). Well it's available on the ...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread
Yeah, the whole " it is not truly 3D so not as good" mentality was rife in the gaming press in the early 3D gaming days. Lots of great games got unfairly looked over because of that and not surprised Klonoa was one of its undeserved victims. And Klonoa is far above the likes of Bubsy, it ...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread
Bubsy was basically a punchline even when it first released - I remember it getting absolutely savaged in the press and I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole, even as a kid. Weird that there's this apparent nostalgia for it now. Gex was one of those franchises, like Army Men, that seemed ubiquito...

Re: Bringing back your favourites... Which is it?
Ape Escape, on the other hand, was super creative and fun and was a wonderful showcase for the potential of dual analogue controls.

Re: Bringing back your favourites... Which is it?
I guess I mean that Crash was one of those series that was never top tier in terms of reviews, even at the time. Always a solid 7/10 sort of game, and I don't think it was ever really held up favourably alongside the likes of Mario 64. I played the demo (that came with Tekken 2, IIRC) but never care...

Ah here we go. No mention of Switch yet, but that's a no brainer down the line, surely?

Re: Bringing back your favourites... Which is it?
Suikoden 1 and 2 - preferably with a new localisation. At this point it feels like Square are trolling Switch owners by porting and remaking every RPG in their library except Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 1-6. Baffling. Having said that, I will absolutely take those Front Mission remakes though....

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread
My memory of Klonoa from the time is that is got strong but not stellar reviews, 7s and 8s out of 10. I think it got unfairly dinged for being a sidescroller and not a 'true' 3d platformer, as was common in the early days of polygonal gaming when 2d games were seen as retrograde. I certainly remembe...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread
I never played Klonoa, but it's easy to forget just how good Namco were back then - easily the strongest developer of the early PS1 era. Almost every game they put out was amazing.

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
Just finished up my third playthrough of Resident Evil 3 remake, this time on Hardcore mode (albiet using the infinite handgun). Tremendous fun - and the unlockable bonuses and relatively breezy completion time make replaying super fun. Trying for the infinite assault rifle next - just a few more re...

Re: Bringing back your favourites... Which is it?
In terms of games that I played which I want to see be remastered/remade then I would like Sony to do an Ape Escape trilogy remake ala Crash and Spyro. I remember those being fun platformers and it would be nice to see that series get some more love. I never played any of the sequels but the origin...
