Re: The Last of Us Part II
Wow. I've never seen that (which probably says a lot about my approach!). I wonder whether it's deliberate.

Re: The Last of Us Part II
This is like a combination of survival horror, MGSV and Rambo 3, except every minute of gameplay costs a million quid and six months of some dude's life animating the toggles on a backpack. It's the best AAA game I've played since BotW. Pretty much on a par with Bloodborne at this stage, fifteen hou...

Re: Game suggestions for the podcast
I consider this a kind of Googlewhack exercise, albeit one where I feel I'm cheating if I nominate - for example - Roland on the Ropes or Roland in the Caves, from the CPC464 heyday of total dogshit games which will never appear on Cane and Rinse. I could nominate the Repton series from the BBC Micr...

Re: Shmups
Congratulations, you luxurious mother fucker. That is gorgeous! I didn't think you'd top the VX... That LS-62 sounds fantastic, as well. I might just order one and give my stick a new lease of life. I've been playing a bit of Ketsui here and there, plus some Muchi Muchi Pork Arrange and Daioujou X (...

Re: The Last of Us Part II
In terms of gameplay it's far more dynamic than the original and improves on it in pretty much every way (except I can't say about the story yet because I haven't finished!)

Re: The Last of Us Part II
I couldn't agree more. The audio is absolutely incredible, not just with the horrifying vocalisations and amazing rural 'foley', but I really love the ambient synth drones blended with the acoustic guitar. The soundtrack feels much more expansive and varied than the first game. The bass throb during...

Re: The Last of Us Part II
If anyone is on the fence about this game, please please don't be tempted to watch anything or look up any spoilers. In so many ways, it feels a generation ahead. The combat encounters are more dynamic than anything I've played since MGSV, but they're also much more tense and physical. There's rarel...

Re: The Last of Us Part II
Again, a non-spoilery comment, the audio on this is also sensational. I don't know what trickery they're employing but it feels like a much more naturalistic sound stage than the original game. That has fantastic sound effects and iconic noises and stuff, but this feels on another level in terms of ...

Re: The Last of Us Part II
Jesus H. Christ, this is a looker. The facial animation and skin textures make RDR2 look behind the times. An incredible leap forward from Uncharted 4, insane that they're on the same hardware.

Re: The Last of Us Part II
Yeah, day one for me, too. I'm pleased to have avoided spoilers as I did with FF7R but my luck will no doubt run out if I leave it too long after release. Unlikely to be there for midnight because I'll be up at 5 tomorrow but Friday night, I'm shutting myself off and enjoying some gratuitous 'self d...

Re: The Sony news and discussion thread
I'll be going all digital this time. I haven't bought a physical game on the PS4 since...I genuinely don't know if I've bought one. I'm all digital on everything. Ring Fit Adventure is a great game but I can't be arsed taking launch BotW out of the Switch to play it. Given how low the barrier to ent...

Re: The Last of Us Part II
Sorry to see that this is the conclusion of twats, Flab. I thought that Barlog and Druckman came across as total bells in that exchange. My ultimate conclusion was 'Bob Mackey is great'.

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
I'm also playing a lot of PS1 stuff, on the RG350M. I'm finding that driving games suit the small screen pretty nicely. Ray Tracers, RR4, Wipeout 3, GT2, all great fun. Also enjoying a bit of Parappa, Tomb Raider and G-Darius. For some stuff, the screen is a bit small I'm finding but you can connect...

Re: 425: Missile Command
I first played 'Missile Command' on the BBC Micro. It was a knock-off imitation called Missile Base and I found it incredibly stark and stressful. The anticipation of the first few seconds was exciting as I predicted my first shots and I visualised the missile trajectories in my mind, but this immed...
