Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

With apologies for the double post - I'm still so crap at "Bloodborne" it's not even funny, but I can feel myself making tiny, baby, miniscule steps and I watched some great videos by the guy who helped write the Official Guide and found his explanations really helpful in reconsidering how...

Re: 468 - Disco Elysium

True story, I spent an evening in the company of British Sea Power once many moons ago, then went drinking with the bass player. That is very cool! I hope they were nice. Since playing the game I've been looking up some more of their music and I like it. Although I am a bit cross with them for maki...

Re: 468 - Disco Elysium

A really intelligently written, creative, unusual and fascinating game. It was lovely to play something with such a clear and original vision behind it. Admittedly, playing on the PS4 at launch meant I suffered a lot of very unfortunate glitches, and I also found traversal a slog throughout. But I k...

Re: Association Football (aka 'Soccer' / "The Beautiful Game")

At my secondary school (in North West London) you absolutely had to pick between Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea - and not choosing was not an option, which is why I "have" a team (Arsenal) despite knowing less about football than a deep sea angler fish.

Re: Association Football (aka 'Soccer' / "The Beautiful Game")

My sister is an obsessive Arsenal fanatic. My brother-in-law loves Tottenham. They had their first child last year. I worry for the football wars on the horizon.

(They're a fifteen minute walk from Emirates though so Arsenal may have the edge).

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

"Gangs of New York" is really underrated (she said, going wildly off topic). I'm not wild about the Leo Cameron stuff, but the supporting cast is so, so good?

Back on topic:
I'm "Bloodborne"-ing and dying a lot, but very stylishly while having fun.

Re: Association Football (aka 'Soccer' / "The Beautiful Game")

I live in America. What is a super league and why is my timeline so full of angry football fans? I am a non football person except for World Cup/Euro Cup (and even then last time it was just fangirling over Gareth Southgate's lovely waistcoat)... but my family is full of Arsenal mega fans and seaso...

Re: Games Completed 2021

11. The Last of Us Part II - For the five thousandth time.

12. Disco Elysium - Admittedly the glitches affecting the PS4 version were a frustrating problem. But what a f*cking game!

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

Iirc the early* "Phoenix Wright" games are all set in America, so I think the Americana is added in there by the creators, but they weren't too fussed about getting some cultural things (like the American judiciary system lmao) right, which is why it's a mishmash of American and Japanese c...

Re: 476 - The Last of Us Part II

That totally makes sense - thank you for explaining! I was still very new to that type of game when I first played it so that might be why I was more forgiving of the obvious boss fight-y vibe with David. Also I love the cutscenes that bookend it... and ditto the cutscenes that bookend the first Ell...

Re: 476 - The Last of Us Part II

(As a non sequitur, I would be interested to hear the opinions of those who played any Last Of Us games for the first time just prior to the launch of this one, as opposed to those who had a seven year history with the series, to see how their opinions differ). I played TLOU1 for the first time las...

Re: 476 - The Last of Us Part II

A lot I'd never even considered there but it made me pause to think and I completely agree with you. ND are brilliant at creating physically varied but natural, credible characters. Only David in the TLOU games feels a little off (in every respect, imo - character, model and voice work). Ooh that's...

Re: 476 - The Last of Us Part II

Something that I wanted to touch on that I don’t see a lot of praise for is the character design. Particularly Abby. I absolutely LOVE Abby’s design. Something that all entertainment media, not just video games, are guilty of is the poor design of functionally capable women. It frustrates me so muc...

Re: Comic Book Chatter

Is anyone else into Japanese comics? It's a real passion of mine (keep having to prune collection due to literally not having shelf space) - I have had a horrible addiction for two decades now. It's not something I've ever really explored to be honest. I did have a few Death Note books years back, ...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

While waiting for the "Disco Elysium" patch I've (predictably) been doing a Moderate+ Permadeath and missing collectibles run of "The Last of Us Part II" to get the trophies I don't have and hopefully get the platinum. Also there's some real-life family stuff going on right now a...

Re: The Sony news and discussion thread

My friend suggested a Naughty Dog superhero game (like the superhero/villain cards you can collect in TLOU2) and I think that could potentially be amazing.

Re: The Sony news and discussion thread

Oh man I didn't even think about that. That would be really cool. I really like the world building in these games - towns controlled by gangs of robbers, large wild areas with scattered groups of good survivors and bad, a large city divided by a land war. I would love more peeks into different parts...
