Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
That sounds absolutely horrendous. I agree it's a great game, but I don't know if I'd be able to sustain that level of commitment to it! Started Mad Max yesterday. Quite impressed, though there is SO much to do on the map, it's gonna be a fine line between burning out, and getting to the end of the ...

Re: Games completed 2017
FATED: The Silent Oath (PSVR) I've got the loan of a PlayStation VR and have been trying out loads of demos etc. It really is amazing, though much more successful at offering 'experiences' rather than games, so far. Anyway, I had a free tenner on the ps store and decided to buy a full game with it. ...

Re: Games completed 2017
NB there are a couple of vehicles in the game but I noticed a trophy for completing it on foot after a certain point so I did it that way.

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
I've been playing a lot of Out of the Park Baseball, the baseball equivalent of Football Manager. It's tough this year, they've really tightened signing players and renewing contracts to the point where previous years' winning strategies of identifying cheap talent is no longer a viable road to succ...

Re: Games completed 2017
I've finally finished another game, Kona , a supernatural detective story set in 1970s Quebec. It immediately shuffles slowly into the #3 spot on the list of World's Best Walking Simulators*. Plenty of atmosphere, with the supernatural stuff being countered by the mundane location and the sardonic h...

Re: No Man's Sky
It's very basic, as you say. I spent a bit more time with it yesterday and I'm happy to report it does get better, at least to the point where I'm happy bimbling about checking out stuff, and I'm happy that there are at least some interesting discoveries to be made. I spent a lot of time in a hangar...

Re: No Man's Sky
Haha, love the review. Have you taken off yet? I have, I've got as far as the first 'space station'. Literally the only thing of use there is the vending machine  So it looks like the planets are 'functionally' the same with different skins, I fly around from generic depot to generic depot, te...

Re: No Man's Sky
I got it in the psn sale and gave it a whirl last night. It's pretty awful so far - basically a grinding loop for more materials/inventory slots alleviated by some enjoyment gained by trying to figure out the systems. Maybe it'll get better and at the same time 10-15 bucks is a reasonable price point.

Re: Nioh
Well, they've ruined it.
A huge boss with glowing weak spots that you have to destroy in order to temporarily expose another weak spot.....whyyyy?
This ranks up there with the Mass Effect 2 boss, possibly worse from an unexpectedness/ruining the game perspective

Re: Games completed 2017
I've completed The Little Acre and Night in the Woods, both were games I was playing as a shorter and more casual counterpoint to Nioh. Both disappointed on some level. I haven't listened to the C&R interview with the little acre folks, but I'm surprised (though glad) at the very positive reacti...

Re: Nioh
It's long! I'm just entering the fifth area now. I'm really enjoying the level design - taking an essentially linear game and having some fun with it. Particularly liked Edo castle: sewers (oh no, sewers!) progressing to an open area with an optional bit of scaffolding which seems to have only been ...

Re: Nioh
I'm in the third area now, and am happy to report that I'm both forging items and using Todinho's gold run video 8-) Still not blocking or using combos, except inadvertantly when William does an unexpected backflip or glorious move as a result of my button mashing. There have been periods where I've...

Re: Life Is Strange
Hey Marco, I also played through as each episode was released, and I had the same issues with the dialogue, though not so much the characters and choices. The speech/slang felt very off kilter to me in episode one, so much so that I actually thought for a good few episodes that the game was set 15 o...

Re: Nioh
Thanks Todinho, just getting back to the game tonight. I'm only getting half the benefit out of it really, because I'm not bothering with all the extras such as combos, switching stance mid-attack etc, I just don't have the energy for that kind of thing. I have something like 30 unspent samurai poin...

Re: Book Recommendations
Alex, these are easy going, but stone-cold classics at the same time Crime: Red Dragon by Thomas Harris - The first Hannibal Lecter book. The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco (can't remember, this may be a bit heavier) Fatherland - Robert Harris - A crime thriller set in an alternate universe where G...

Re: Life Is Strange
I really enjoyed Life is Strange. For me it's a weird pastiche of naturalistic storytelling and videogamey happenings. Some of the characters are great, some not so believeable. I was super surprised that this was the follow up game to Remember Me, which I also enjoyed; DontNod employ some really ta...

Re: Nioh
As a matter of interest, what are you spending the money on? I don't see anything in the blacksmith shop that isn't inferior to what I picked up in the previous level, for example.
I'm still very early in the game though.

Re: The Last Guardian
I agree with this too. The last quarter of the game really redeemed it as it became more cinematic and less gameplay-oriented. I admit I did the entire game with a walkthrough open; I decided early on that I couldn't be having the uncertainty of the puzzles (is the the right answer but Trico just is...

Re: Nioh
Have you come to the bit yet where you're Benny Hill-ing around the place with the Yokai in hot pursuit? Not so elegant then... :) I'm away for the week but can't wait to get back to it. So far I've maybe beaten one boss out of four fairly. Cheesed one and semi-cheesed (spear) another. Quite happy a...
