Re: Whatcha Been Listening To?

I've heard really good things about Tales from the Borderlands but haven't gotten around to checking it out. As I recall everything Borderlands has had good soundtracks. I have Dam Top from Borderlands 2 downloaded and I was looking for the longest time for the tannis-rides-fish easter egg music . E...

Re: Blade Runner

I don't remember much about this game. I believe I played the game before seeing the movie, or perhaps we watched the movie whilst playing the game. I would have played it not so long after it came out, so when I was 12 or 13 perhaps. It was so long ago, and my memory of it so limited, I didn't even...

Re: Sound of Play: 89

I don't think it would be practical often, but I think if the opportunity is there then there would be no harm in suggesting/requesting it. I'm not sure if this will be listen-able in Britain, I'm not sure how servers and such can conflict. Around the 1:50-3:00 minute time is the example I remembere...

Re: Whatcha Been Listening To?

I'm constantly on the look out for new music, presently some mainstays in my ears are: "Lines of the Broken" by DROELOE x San Holo. Initially I wasn't 100% on this one but it quickly grew on me and I intend to purchase it as soon as I get a little spare change. IRp1COseMGI I tend to prefer...

Re: Sound of Play: 89

What a pleasure to have a composer fetch and demo the instrument during recording! When practical, I would encourage more of that if the artists are able and the equipment will catch the sound properly. I really enjoyed Michael A. Levine's sincere enthusiasm and generosity sharing his experiences. D...

Re: Sound of Play: 82

I had forgotten how pretty some of Fable's music was. I think Temple of Light also played inside the Demon Doors, because I heard that and remembered it a lot more than I ever visited the temple. In fact I found the inside of the Demon Doors so tranquil and the music so lovely I would often enter a ...

Re: Destiny / The Taken King / Rise of Iron

I never felt like I was addicted to Destiny because I didn't find most of it very pleasurable. I do have a mission-focused personality though. I love having tasks, and I freely throw myself at them in games. They aren't satisfying if they don't feel significant though, and in fact tasks with arbitra...

Re: Destiny / The Taken King / Rise of Iron

Please note my review is from the perspective of an early adopter. Lately game companies push games out too soon, and then get them really polished after about a year when most people have moved on. This is not solely a problem with Destiny. A person starting the game today would have a very differe...

Re: The videogame music thread (also Sound of Play submissions)

I don't know much about this track. I believe it was composed as a tribute to a member of the development crew who passed away during the creation of Battlefield 4, but I haven't done the necessary research to be sure. Simply enough I really enjoy "A Theme for Kjell" from the Battlefield 4...

Re: Sound of Play: 32

Glad "Serenity" finally made it onto the podcast. I love that track, for all the reasons stated in the show and then some. I used to listen to YouTube videos where people had looped it. I love that sub-genre too, but I might twist the definition to include things like the Dark Souls menu t...

hmm for some reason dont work for me :/ Anyone have an idea why? You only need to include the portion of the link that's after the = sign in between the "". Any time you're curious how someone formatted something you can quote their ...

Re: Our next podcast recording (12.12.15): Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor

I’ve only just begun this game and I won’t finish before the podcast records, but I wanted to say I’ve been really enjoying it. I picked it up a week or so ago cheap on XBL and decided I'd play it to "play along." A friend told me not to expect much of the story, and I don’t really care if...

Re: SoP submissions *please read first post*

Quantum Redshift was a racing game for the original Xbox that I found more enjoyable than most other racing games. I do not typically enjoy racing or sports games, but I have enjoyed them most when they allow you multiple victory conditions. Quantum Redshift allowed you to either win by traditional ...

Re: SoP submissions *please read first post*

I heard in Sound of Play 24 that you were low on user submissions so please forgive the quantity, I'm not trying to be greedy! 2 songs from Phantom Dust (EDIT: First link not working anymore, looking to rectify that). I'm not sure you can buy these tracks but I did find several places where you coul...

Re: Sound of Play: 22

Before listening to this episode I never understood "old school" gamers. Leon's introduction of BGM2 from Assault (1988) made it click for me though. I never understood the appeal of these old games until I realized there were equally games I loved from not-as-long ago. Due to their impris...

Re: Sound of Play: 21

A couple insights on this show were straight to the heart for me:

I found what Nick said about chiptunes acting as the great leveler for genres parallel to my own experience. Also I'm as mystified by musicians and composers as Josh is, they're all wizards to me.

Re: SoP submissions *please read first post*

Ice Cap Zone from Sonic 3 had my favorite music in the game and also my favorite from that era of musical limitation. The song has a constant sense of motion in the background along with a collection of sounds which remind me of the obstacles Sonic faced. The occasional heroic solo completes the mem...

Re: Sound of Play: 11

I found myself so perfectly on the same page about "under cover of night" and what it felt like in that moment of the game. We played that level over and over again (Ok, we played ALL of the levels over and over again) in Halo: CE and that was always my favorite part. Actually if we got wi...

They both play on the 360 thankfully. I played both for years after getting a 360, simply because no game offered the experiences those games did.

Re: Game suggestions for the podcast

Phantom Dust Deathrow Both original Xbox games, both extremely good games with unique gameplay. Phantom Dust received a lot more press since its release and lately with the attempts at a reboot. Deathrow I'm afraid is a much lesser known game, but with a fantastic attitude and sense of humor. Also v...
