Re: Bringing back your favourites... Which is it?
I think there are a ton of PS1 games could really benefit from being remastered in HD with stable, clean 3d graphics and some other quality of life enhancements like faster loading times. Not sure what the level of demand is, or whether its even technically possible in a lot of cases though. I know ...

Re: The Nintendo news and discussion thread
Live A Live looks cool, but I don't really like JRPGs that are more episodic and bitty. My heart leapt for a minute when I thought it was a FFVI remake, but alas not. I'll probably pick up the Klonoa remakes and will definitely pick up both Front Mission remakes. I had the FM DS remake back in the d...

Re: Bringing back your favourites... Which is it?
At this point it feels like Square are trolling Switch owners by porting and remaking every RPG in their library except Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 1-6.
Baffling.
Having said that, I will absolutely take those Front Mission remakes though.

Re: Bringing back your favourites... Which is it?
What I loved about Rage Racer is that it had that classic Ridge Racer thing of having one single track with three different - and very distinct - versions thereof. All of the track variations had so much character and insane levels of verticality. It also had a very strong art direction - all grey s...

Re: Bringing back your favourites... Which is it?
Bundle it in a package with a similar remake of Star Fox 2 and a port of the DS 64 remake and I'd be in heaven.

Re: Bringing back your favourites... Which is it?
I would also love to see a remake of the original SNES Star Fox - updated with analogue controls and a level select. Graphical overhaul - HD, widescreen, 60fps but retaining the same signature abstract, low-poly look of the original. IIRC there was a Star Fox minigame in the Wii Warioware and it loo...

Re: Bringing back your favourites... Which is it?
It would also be kinda cool if Nintendo did a definitive remaster of all of the classic 2d Mario titles that fixed any bugs/glitches and allowed the option to play in widescreen, with or without All-Stars graphical enhancements etc.

Re: Bringing back your favourites... Which is it?
Rage Racer . Feels like a bit of a forgotten game nowadays, or at least was very much overshadowed by it's predecessors and sequel. But its easily my favourite among the Ridge Racer series and a real standout of the PS1 library. Would love an HD remake. Final Fantasy VI remade with the Octopath Tra...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
Finished up Resident Evil 3 (2020). Much like the originals, it's an inferior and less memorable retread of RE2 - more a Gaiden than a true sequel. Feels a bit padded and much shorter than RE2, with a greater emphasis on action and combat, which results in far less tension and jump scares. The lack...

Re: Contra Spirits (Contra III: The Alien Wars/Super Probotector: Alien Rebels)
Is it just me who thought the slowdown in games like Contra III and Super Ghouls and Ghosts was a deliberate slow motion effect growing up, and not just a result of the hardware struggling?

Re: 532: Hades
I played this for a few hours when it arrived on Game Pass but really don’t get the fuss. It’s alright and that’s about it. I must be missing something in the glare of all that polish! I'm in agreement. I really don't understand what all the fuss is about either. As someone who doesn't care about s...

Re: Contra Spirits (Contra III: The Alien Wars/Super Probotector: Alien Rebels)
Of course, we never even made it to the second half of level 3, since it was so stinking difficult. This is definitely the hardest of the classic Contra games in my opinion, even harder than Contra: Hard Corps, which was a game I would later own on the Sega Genesis. This statement legit blows my mi...

Re: 505: Hollow Knight
I can understand on a certain level what makes Hollow Knight appealing to so many people. I can appreciate how the challenge the game presents and the lack of handholding gamers have become accustomed to might feel refreshing and novel in this day and age. Though aesthetically the game isn’t my cup ...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
Right there with you on Bowser's Fury. To me it felt like an awkward mishmash of open world and linear gameplay - I struggled to find the groove that the devs were going for, and I found the Bowser kaiju bits a bit annoying. Will probably go back to it at some point.

Re: Your Top 50 Games of All Time Lists
Not sure how I'd go about making a top 50 list because it would probably just end up looking like a 'top 50 albums' list - ie all of the stuff that burned itself into my brain when i was at the most impressionable age and not necessarily the actual 'best' stuff. Lots of games made a huge impression ...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
Resident Evil 2 (2019) Now this is more like it. Sublime controls, excellent graphics, sumptuous production values all round. Feels faithful to the original while also being essentially a totally different game. Gameplay strikes the perfect balance between the more expansive feel of Resident Evil 4...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
That was my issue with Hollow Knight too - it feels like a game with 10 hours of content artificially stretched out to take 50 hours to complete due to arbitrary, transparently time-wasting obstacles placed in front of the player. This video absolutely nails everything I dislike about it. [youtube]h...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
Also tried to get into Dark Souls again. In many ways the polar opposite of a game like Tomb Raider, and a game and series whose popularity I've long suspected must be some kind of elaborate joke everyone but me is in on. Fared better than my first attempt, and I'm starting to appreciate why people ...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
Gave the 2013 Tomb Raider reboot a whirl.
It's... fine.
Starts out mildly interesting but devolves into a fairly mindless shooter pretty quickly. Pronounced Resident Evil 4 influence (right down to the annoying QTEs) but doesn't get anywhere close to the genius of that game's mechanics.

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
I spent the latter half of 2021 almost exclusively just bouncing between multiplayer sessions on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Splatoon 2. While that's fine, as 'fun' is the ultimate point in gaming, I did feel a slight disappointment that I hadn't made any progress on a 'complete-able' game for a...
