Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
SotN is the PS1 classic version with different voice acting but RoB is the straight up PCE version just with an English title screen and different voice acting with english subtitles over the intro as well as english instead of the Japanese voices in the cut scenes. Does the intro still have a Germ...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
In the mean time, I've been playing Castlevania: Rondo of Blood. Now this is good. It's a great mix of classic adventure gameplay with branching paths, hidden boss's and really compelling level design and art. Despite the nasty new title screen and some odd music sounds, it's a pretty nice version ...

Re: Gaming firsts /most influential games
As mentioned above my first racing game was Formula 1 for the gameboy, but the first Racing game that I got into was WIPEOUT 2097 - courtesy of its presence on a certain PS1 Demo Disc (which has become a sort of touchstone for several of my gaming experiences). I played through that one Demo track c...

Re: Game suggestions for the podcast
Both versions are on the list. Gentle reminder that resubmitting a game doesn’t increase the chances of a podcast happening. If a game is on the list then it’s on the list, and gets considered the same as everything else (2250+ titles)! i.e. There’s no need to suggest games that have already been s...

Re: Game suggestions for the podcast
It got mentioned above, but I'd like to formally suggest Crash Team Racing -the shiny new remake is winding down now, and it could be an interesting counterpoint to your Mario Kart series.

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
I've been playing Castlevania: Harmony of Dissidence on my trusty GBA-SP ...h it. Anyone else played this game ?? I have; I mostly remember it for the gimmick itself, and having a really lame true final battle. I don't remember it being much worse than other handheld Igavanias, but then a lot of th...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
Plus, it pushes the classic series forward in a few ways - its the origin of the shop, theres honest to god cut scenes, and I looooooove what they did with the stage select screens. Tiny things, but they make the game stand out to me. I also have a good deal of Nostalgia for mega man II on the game...

Re: Your Favourite Game! (per console)
Oof, this is a tough one. Going off the top 50 games list I made earlier, I guess mine would have to be... NES : Castlevania III: Draculas Curse Game Boy : Mega Man IV SNES : Final Fantasy V Playstation : Klonoa- door to panthomile Playstation 2 : Kingdom Hearts Gamecube : Super Smash Bros Meelee Ga...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?
I started playing Mega Man 3 and 4. On Gameboy. Through 3DS virtual console. And you know what? I think I actually *prefer* them to the NES versions. Which sounds really weird on paper, but something about the monochrome colour scheme just works better for the graphics, IMHO. I am really not a fun ...

Re: Final Fantasy VII Remake
If they made a HD remaster of the original with a completely overhauled translation and skippable summon sequences I'd be more than happy.
Keep the LEGO men, they're great.

Re: Final Fantasy VII Remake
What about people coming to the game for the first time though? Like, I have a friend who never played the original, but held out for Remake in order to experience a classic story in a modernized form. He was really enjoying the game until the end, which he felt was frustrating, jarring and alienat...

Re: Final Fantasy VII Remake
Oh yeah, the "We'll make a petition! Hashtagnotmy[product]" respons is always overkill, no matter the fandom. I'm just always wary of the opposite reaction where all negative criticism gets lumped together in order to be easily dismissed wholesale.

Re: Final Fantasy VII Remake
I really don't know why anyone would be bothered about what they do with the remake when the original still exists. It's one of the very best AAA games I've played this gen, and while it has a number of flaws, its best moments have been some of my favourites in the last five years. It's also stunni...

Re: Videogame Deals
Flashback is on sale for next to nothing on the Nintendo Switch (7.5 danish crowns is about 1 pound I'd guess?). As someone who loved Abes Oddysey, is this worth dipping ones toes in? Or is it too aged? My switch backlog is starting to swell so I'm trying to restrain myself, but a 95% discount for a...

Re: Our next podcast recording (25.4.20) - 416: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
Despite their meticulous design, I’ve never been able to fully embrace most of Marios’ 2D adventures. Because of the abstract, or at least somewhat minimalist visuals, the levels feel like platformer templates that have yet to have their unique theming added. And what themes there are are oft repeat...

Re: Gaming firsts /most influential games
I think the idea is more of a personal list. So if Wolfenstein 3D got you into gaming, PC gaming, FPSs, fostered a deep love of blasting Nazis in the face or anything else you feel is important in your gaming life, throw it on your list. Thats exactly it, though people are welcome to post random an...

Re: All things Mega Man
I wonder if the Zero series is improved by the recent Legacy Collection? That's the sub-series which I used to look at while playing Battle Network, look, wish, and avoid, because of that brutal difficulty. I gather the DS port fixed some of the issues. Question is, how many and which ones? I'm sur...

Re: All things Mega Man
But honestly, I'm not sure I can really recommend the original NES Mega Man games. I never grew up with an NES, and while I can certainly acknowledge that the NES Mega Man games were a quantum leap above much of the NES library, I don't find them particularly fun to play, especially the first 3. I'...

Re: All things Mega Man
Help a newbie out? Welcome! As someone who adored Mega Man 11 and is a lot less keen on 1-3 than the popular consensus (just so you know my biases), these are my two cents. Well, more than two. In terms of an entry point into the classic series, I’d actually recommend Mega Man 4 . Its less unfairly...

Re: Final Fantasy VI
Idunno about "Definitive", but in terms of "the most content" that'd be the GBA version, which adds an optional post-game dungeon along with some cut bosses, as well as more espers to collect. I think theres some translation fixups as well, and probably many other minor changes. ...
