Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

A much more mundane, but often important, benefit to playing a game in another language is that bad voice acting isn't as noticeable in another language (for me, at least). I can't tell if the German actors in Kingdom Come are being cheesy or hamming it up! I just think it sounds very good (and may...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

More Kingdom Come: Deliverance. I've switched over to the German audio and I'm having a much better time. The English voice track was starting to pull me out of the game. At one point I was sat in a room with accents from England, Ireland and the United States, plus some non-descript European infle...

Re: Videogame Criticism

I don’t think they’d actually need to change very much for them to find a much larger audience. They certainly don’t need to make the easier. So, what exactly would those changes be that make the games more accessible without dumbing them down or making them easier? Genuinely curious. Because from ...

Re: Games Completed 2018

I have greatly enjoyed all three Quantic Dream games I have played; I know Alex is a fan too. Ok, Heavy Rain really self-destructed in the final third, and there are some icky parts in all of them, but they are good games and do some interesting things at times. I think Beyond Two Souls was my game...

Re: Videogame Criticism

Another is that I think it risks the artistic identity of the game itself. If a developer wants to make a game, they should be totally entitled to make it however they want, and create whatever experience they want. Sometimes that causes a bit of friction between the player and the game, but that's...

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

For what it’s worth, my understanding is Fortnite on mobile does the same thing. You're in the mobile sector, correct? What do you make of all this? The article suggests that giving players an early sense of accomplishment may be a way to lure them into spending money on microtransactions later on....

I'm sorry... Should I not have said anything? I thought Alex might want to know... :(

On the positive side (if the article is to be believed that is), the game seems designed in order to tone it down over time as players get better and better.

Re: Whatcha Been Playing?

I suspect its a lot easier on mobile due to the player base. Also, here's a tip, turn on the gyro aiming. It makes things so much easier and it's oblivious most people aren't using it as they stand there, slowly trying to aim whilst I popped their head off haha. Semi-serious question. On a scale of...

Of course you have to know I am a big fan of his games - how could it be different? - so that will be fun! Oh my god my sarcasm detector is busted. I have absolutely no idea if you're being genuine or just joking around again. :? We are all our own biggest caricatures, after all. In unrelated news,...

Re: Games Completed 2018

Resident Evil 4 Never heard of that one. Is it any good? I'll see if I can squeeze its VR demo in my already tight schedule composed of writing dissertations about the communist codependency of Tetris' building blocks and supervising my crowdfunded campaign to help David Cage's dream Chrono Trigger...

Re: What single game-mechanic can't/couldn't you get enough of?

Izuna Drop in Ninja Gaiden - Great properties, reasonable execution barrier, cool animation which is just lengthy enough so that it doesn't become repetitive. Knife and melee combat moves in RE4&5&6 - Perfectly intuitive risk vs. reward system that incentivizes spontaneous decision making. A...

Re: Games Collection: To sell or not to sell

Personally, I'd recommend against selling off anything you might want to play again in the future, no matter how slight that possibility may appear at the moment. It's exactly the kind of decision that begs to be regretted later down the line. I have sold games off in the past, and if I had to give ...

Re: Videogame News

I get your overall sentiment Ksub but I think you're misguided in holding up God of War as something whose structure should be preserved since God of war has been on a decline, arguably since before 3 with the psp spin-offs, if you remember the last game in the series, Ascension, didnt exactly set ...

Re: Videogame News

I know there is some truth to what you're saying, but I can't help but feel like things are now being homogenized to an unprecedented degree. All of the series I listed above were alive and well during the 00's, and only one of them was an FPS. The others successfully carved their own niche and comm...

Re: Videogame News

I'm not going to blame Horizon for being great at what it does. But I simply can't wrap my head around this notion of every game being this amalgamation of the same allegedly popular design tropes to the point of losing their unique voice and what made their series great in the first place. I know i...

Re: 319: Resident Evil – Code: Veronica (Biohazard – Code: Veronica)

I think it's fair to say that CODE:Veronica is by far the most idiosyncratic title of the classic series. However, and despite a lot of its elements suffering from rather mediocre execution, that's also what makes it one of the most interesting ones. The main thing I'd like to praise is this game's ...
