True. It is mostly visible in concept art etc. I suppose it depends how much time you spend looking at character portraits ;)

well old pixel art rarely looks similar to the concept art that its based on. While pixel art can look great in itself, and mirror concept art style to a certain extent, a lot obviously has to be lost when you're working with the limitations of 8-bit or 16-bit games. While more recent machines don't need to worry about that, and can realise concept art styles much more closely. So it makes sense that someone would be okay with the style in Chrono Trigger, but not Blue Dragon.

There's also perhaps a reason why someone would prefer his art in games compared to manga or anime. In the most recent Did You Know Gaming video, they covered Dragon Quest, and they revealed that Toriyama at one point said that he puts more detail and effort in to his game concept art, because it doesn't need to be reproduced over and over like in manga and anime. Instead of having to draw panels or cels over and over, you just need to create a handful of pictures to use as a reference.

The Behemoth always manage to make me go "Hmm, i'll pass" but when I get round to playing it, I have the most fun.

This probably won't be any different but for now, i'll pass!

I'll certainly give Grim Fandago a shot. Never played it, and I hear nothing but praise for it.

So Im not one to promete Kickstarters much(unless they are called wasteland 2) but since folks were talking about Pathologic lately and how it had good ideas but poor execution I thought I'd share this: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/15 ... pathologic ,the Icepick Lodge wants to remake the game so if you wanna see that check it out they already had a funded and released game on kickstarter so they are at least a cut above your regular kickstarter project.

Well, could there be videogame news bigger than this in 2014? I don't think so!

Notch's statement is worth a read.

Having read the book about the early days of Mojang earlier this year it's been clear to me for a while that Notch never really knew how to handle the fame, and definitely never wanted it.

I know it's only artwork, but these designs from Guerrilla games look amazing. Hope the gameplay will be good.

FF13 taught us to never trust a Final Fantasy trailer again... heh...

Meh! I kind of liked FF13, not loved like I did all those before it but I liked it and in the overall pantheon of FF games, sure it is low for me but as a standalone experience - it's OK. I've played (and enjoyed) worse

More to the point I think the official launch trailer at least for XIII was true to the actual experience I got (I can't remember their early pre-release ones though) in which it gave a glimpse of all the characters and their personalities (as they were - lacking or not) as well as a couple of corridor running sections and the actual combat (which was kind of fun).

This trailer however I am a little worried by, I need to see more but the game seems to be taking a funny theme/turn. I don't mind my FF games being a little out there but I really don't know what SE are telling us about this game yet... other than we're going on a literal road trip for at least some of it.
