A pretty great game. Had a bit of a bumpy start, but in the end things turned out well. Great atmosphere and art design, and a really nice sense of wonder and mystery to it. Even though I've finished it I feel like there's still a lot to figure out. Any criticisms I had earlier have been fixed. If anything, I kind of wish I waited until they patched the game before I started it. Either way, it's still a load of fun, and pretty challenging. It doesn't lose the sense of deliberate, quick, and tense combat that makes it so good. I think I'll have to come back to this one later to dig up all the stuff I missed. I'll also probably pick up the soundtrack too.

Oh, and just a quick side note for anyone else looking in to the soundtrack, don't go listening to it before playing through the game. It does something at the end of the game which is a nice surprise, but I've just noticed that same song is the first track on the soundtrack. So even though it's only a little surprise that doesn't really mean much, it's something that I think is worth preserving for the proper context.

January 2 - Just Cause 3 (PS4)
February 8 - Rise of the tomb raider (360)
March 11 - Life is strange (PS4)
April 24 - Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain (PS4)

Pretty incredible game, with almost bang on 100 hours played, what a joyous experience. As usual a completely bonkers story, and Kojima needs an editor what with the game having essentially three endings, but the base building causes x-com levels of addiction and the stealth combat is peerless. Amazing. :P

If Nintendo hadn't forced motion controls on the player, this would be one of the best Wii U games. Luckily they clicked for me but I can totally see it being a huge hurdle for some.

The game is a re-imagining of the N64 game but that doesn't stop it from looking, sounding and playing incredibly well. If you are struggling with flying/shooting alone, try the co-op. It makes the game much more bearable and therefore enjoyable.

The chicken walker is the only thing which controlled poorly to me but luckily it doesn't take up too much of the overall game time.

I loved it and i'll be going back for more.

Another World 20th Aniversary on PS4/PS3/PSVita. Challenging yet became easy once you got the hang of it. Not long and can completed in a day. If I played this on its initial release it would have broke me.

Damn, this game is good. I had played a lot of Streets of Rage 1 when I was a kid, but this is the first time playing the sequel. Lately, I've been trying to play a lot of the older classics that I missed as a kid, and Streets of Rage 2 ages way better than I expected. Really fun.

I'm probably done playing M2's Sega Genesis games on the 3DS for a while, but they deserve all of the credit in the world. The "Rage Relay" mode in this version is really fun and a super smart way to tweak the game.

Jan - Broken Age (Vita)
Jan - Thomas Was Alone (Vita)
Feb - Until Dawn (PS4)
Feb - NiGHTS Into Dreams (Saturn via X360 via XBO)
Mar - Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception - Remastered (PS4)
Apr - Journey - Remastered (PS4)

Apr - Street Fighter Alpha 2 (PS One via Vita)

I had around 10 hours of solo train journeys over the last week or so due to a combination of work and family visits, and while I was wondering what I should play to stave off the boredom the gaming gods smiled on me by reducing the price of the PS One version of The Best Street Fighter Game Ever (it's official - don't argue), on the PS Store to just £2.49.

My history with Street Fighter Alpha 2 goes back to the Saturn version that I got around release in late 1996 and sank countless hours into over the years that followed. This PS One version doesn't quite live up that one (the Saturn had the best version of every 2D fighter of the era) thanks to longer load times, the lack of a Survival mode, and a few missing secret characters such as Evil Ryu. That said it still looks and plays beautifully, with Vita's OLED display making the fantastic art and animation really shine, and the d-pad doing a surprisingly decent job of dealing with precise inputs.

The only negative really is those load times, that when combined with the slightly convoluted process of getting back in for a rematch after a defeat, did begin to grate. We're so used to being able to jump straight back into gameplay nowadays following a fail state, that having to wait so long for a rematch after getting my ass kicked yet again got old pretty quickly. Essentially when you lose you get a screen of gloating from the victor, followed by a long loading screen, followed by a 'continue' screen, then more loading, then back to the character select screen, then more loading......aaaaaand we're back! :|

Throughout my play time I saw the credits roll a fair few times as I played through the arcade mode with all my old favourites. It really is a special game this, which perfectly combines instantly understandable mechanics with deceptive depth, and a perfectly refined character move set that feels fantastic to execute and land. For me this is also the best SF from an audio visual perspective as well. The art style and animation for both characters and stages is stunning, and the music throughout is wonderfully catchy and never comes close to wearing thin for me even on long play sessions.

Like I said - The Best Street Fighter Game Ever ;)

Finished this last night, and I really enjoyed it. I loved the first game, but the sequel didn't grab me immediately, it seemed more action driven, less of solving the puzzle of how to best use your skills to clear a room and more of a full on action game. Once I'd got my head around that I spend most the game grinning like an idiot. The different styles - the roll dodge guy, the chainsaw/gun duo, the no lethal hits guy, they all played really well. If you liked the original and were left wanting more then you can't go wrong really. It's bigger, longer, more weapons and characters, and more level diversity. The only downside is a completely incomprehensible story - I've even read the plot summary on Wikipedia and am non the wiser. Oh, and yeah the soundtrack is still brilliant.

The Walking Dead Michonne (Episodes 1, 2 and 3).

Not bad, not a patch on season 1 or 2 but better than the 400 days episode. Ending was a bit weird but overall if you like TWD it's alright. I'd say pick it up on sale. That engine was struggling at the beginning of each episode to show the previous decisions I made.

Every telltale game I've played seems to struggle with the episode recaps, seems like a fundamental issue they really need to fix.

Bastion still remains one of my favorite games ever. It might not be anything super ambitious, but the fun gameplay, gorgeous graphics and the soundtrack make it a gem for me.
deacon05oc wrote:First game for 2016: Bastion I really enjoyed this quaint little game. Loved seeing the story unfold piece by piece like the floor rising. Simple combat, too many weapons. I didn't like when I set a load out only to find a new weapon to replace one of them. I also really enjoyed the music. I going to try Transistor on my PS4 now. Kinda wish that game was on the Vita. The short levels worked for me with Bastion. Now to New Game Plus.
