Games completed 2016
Re: Games completed 2016
Finally got around to finishing up Doom on PC last night. I'll admit, though, I reduced the difficulty before the end of the game because I kept getting my ass handed to me. After being somewhat unimpressed with the MP beta, I was pretty well blown away by how good the single player campaign was. Definitely one of the more challenging games I've played in a while. I love the industrial metal soundtrack that was written for it. Metal and killing demons just seems to go hand in hand. I don't know how many of you played the original Painkiller, but that's another example of how metal and killing demon spawn go well together.

Telltale Batman Episode 4
Quite disappointing and I'm wondering how they will wrap it all up in the last episode.

Short little free to play skateboarding game on mobile. I really enjoyed the few hours I spent with it. It's a one touch, trick based half pipe game, in which you simply have to complete objectives to progress to the next area. It's quite fun though, racking up a high score.

Re: Games completed 2016
I kinda lost track of what i played in last couple of months. Mostly WoW so i dont think i managed to finish many games .
Lately i've bought couple of games and so far i Finished Rise of Tomb Raider (about 80%, not sure if i will bother with 100%) and Titanfall 2 campaing (It was a surprise, especially since it started really sluggish).

Re: Games completed 2016
I finished Arkham City a few days ago and I feel that it is definitely a worthy follow up to Asylum. A lot of the Rogue's Gallery got some pretty good representation in this one, my particular favourites being Penguin, Mr Freeze and Hugo Strange. The ending and final battle was much better than the nonsense in Asylum, closing the final page on Batman v Joker. Joker's song in the credits was genuinely creepy and as always Mark Hamill hit it out of the park with his performance. Overall, I found Arkham City as an environment a fun one to traverse and explore and the combat flowed much smoother as well. Also loved the new gadgets as well, the gun disruptor in particular getting me out of some particularly tricky situations. So overall, I rate this very highly.
However, if there is one part of this game I could not stand it was the Subway. It was a proper labyrinth and I got lost way too many times. It was a slog to get through and I would always groan if I had to go down there for any reason.
But yes, very happy I got to try out these games and I will probably try out Knight sometime in the future. For now, I am going to give Batman a rest and go into some smaller titles that I have been meaning to play.

Bioshock[remastered](PC)-Well it's still Bioshock and it's amazing, yeah the final third of the game is still pretty weak but hey what can you do. I played on the survivor difficulty which I think was added to this version,I think that's exactly the right difficulty for me at least the sense of danger never leaves the game and it can be really unforgiving especially at the beginning but it's a nice challenge even with this by the end you're still swiming in ammo and destroying Big daddies.
A few interesting things of the directors commentary is that aparently the voice actor for Atlas is actually Irish!I remember this being somewhat of a sticking point in the C&R podcast so I thought I should mention it XD. Other interesting notes is that the idea of a moral choice whether to save or harvest was there from the beginning but not the alternate endings which was a a decision from publisher,Ken Levine wanted just 1 ending and for it to be a morally ambiguous one and he also agrees that the benefits for harvesting should've been much higher then saving was.On a sadder not he thinks that Burial at Sea was good way to tie both games together...well I'll respectfully disagree.

I've had this one sat in the backlog for a while and was really in the mood for an FPS having strangely not played one all year.
I loved The New Order and this is a direct prequel to that game. However, rather than being a full scale follow-up this is a much shorter, more streamlined experience that strips out almost all of the quieter character and world building moments that were some of the most compelling elements of the first game. As a result this very much feels like a companion piece with The New Order being the core Wolfenstein experience, and the latter should definitely be played first despite where the events of the games sit in the timeline.
Despite this being a less well rounded experience as a whole this is still an absolute blast from start to finish though, with the same fantastic mechanics and overall tone as The New Order. On its own terms The Old Blood this is still a rollicking good time that anyone who enjoyed the first game shouldn't hesitate to pick up.

Got this game quite a while back, and made it most of the way through before getting stuck really close to the end on a certain boss. By the time I decided to come back to it I found that my save had disappeared. Apparently a known problem with this game. So I left the game for a while since I didn't feel like playing through the whole thing again right away. Now I've gone back to it and played through the whole thing in a few weeks.
It's a fun little game. One that isn't shy at all about its inspirations, and I'm completely okay with that. It lifts more or less everything wholesale from Zelda. Most notably Wind Waker, although given its top-down (although isometric) perspective, and lack of control when sailing between islands, it comes across as something more like Phantom Hourglass.
It's a little rough around the edged in some parts, which does betray its origin as a mobile game. Despite an appealing aesthetic, the terrain sometimes does look a bit blocky, and at times you can see the seams between the world. Character models and animation are pretty basic, although they look nice in terms of design.
Dungeon design is kind of a mixed bag, but mostly positive. Most dungeons are pretty straightforward and don't really require much from the player. But I actually like that in a way. It's a pretty laid-back game in general, and that simple design adds to that kind of low-key Zelda vibe. Something to enjoy casually, but not tax your head too hard. A few of the dungeons, or individual puzzles perhaps, are rather obtuse though. It's kind of jarring when most of the game solutions are pretty obvious. Not that I'm criticising it for making me have to actually put in any effort. Rather that on the few occasions it does, it doesn't seem like those puzzles are particularly well thought out. But that only comes up a couple of times across the whole game. In general it's a breezy, carefree experience.
Despite the few problems, and the game's unoriginality, it's clear the game is coming from a place of genuine love and care. A little scrappy team of indies who love Zelda and wanted to pay homage to it with their own pet project. And it turned out well. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to scratch that Zelda itch, but has run out of other games, or if you're getting tired of waiting for Breath of the Wild. A while ago the studio annoucned they're working on a sequel too, which seems to be a much more ambitious project. So I'm looking forward to that as well.

Sounds very interesting, that. I'll have a look whether my laptop can run it.
Shocked that Leon has only just finished Bloodborne :O
Really really looking forward to that episode.

Yeah, the allegory stuff is a bit ham fisted and misjudged, but overall I thought it was excellent. If we’re talking strictly mechanics and level design, it’s a huge step up from Human Revolution. Also, there is only one boss fight in the game (unless i’m mistaken?) and it’s what all the terrible boss fights in HR should have been. The ending was fine too. No where near as abrupt as people had lead me to believe. The narrative focus of the game definitely concludes.
Re: Games completed 2016
I just finished Far Cry Primal. I did all story quests, most of side quests, caught all animals, some trash gathering but i probably wont bother with 100%-ing it. Overall it was a really fun game. Made me realize that FC gameplay works much better without guns and more melee focus (though you have bow and you can throw almost any weapons). Story was meh but that's ok, cause gameplay was so smooth. Also, animation was at its expected very high level (as are most of ubi games).

Congratulations Mr Man. As fantastic as the game is, it still requires some serious commitment to get through doesn't it! I remember the feeling of watching the credits roll around this time last year. A joyous day indeed!ThirdMan wrote:28/11 - The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (PS4)

Good man. Looking forward to your thoughts on TPP. I absolutely adored it, warts and all.
Did you play the Witcher DLC expansions? I've still not done them but only heard that they actually improve on the main game quest!

Re: Games completed 2016
Been all over the place again this year, but I still managed to see the end credits of a small handful of titles.
May 6th: Gunstar Heroes (for the CaR episode)
May 26th: Golden Axe (for the CaR episode)
May 30th: Star Fox 64 3D
October 24th: Resident Evil 2, Claire scenario B (after a long summer playing GTA V and still being nowhere near the end)
November 16th: Asura's Wrath (gave the CaR episode a re-listen after clearing it)
Currently, I'm seriously making my way through the 1st Yakuza and Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, so I hope to bring happy tidings soon.

I won't spoil anything about TPP but from what you say, it sounds like a lot of it will be right up your street. As for Witcher, I feel the same which is why I've left it on the back burner. I've recently reinstalled it so will get on the case soonish.
