Your favorite game trailers

So I dont know about anybody else but Im super hyped for Tekken 7 to the point I already pre-ordered it and I cant wait for June 2, now I dont recall ever being this excited for a fighting game so hopefully it doesnt blow up on my face XD now I've been following the game for awhile but what really got me going was the Rage and Sorrow trailer they released a little while ago and I must have watched that 20 times already, needless to say it got me pretty hyped like few trailers do:

Another trailer that got that impact on me is the Legendary MGS2 E3 trailer, at the time I hadnt even finnished the first one and I didnt even know what happened but that trailer was all I needed to see to know that I had to play the sequel:

The last one I'll put here is the Dragon Age Origins sacred ashes trailer, what I really like about this one is how it captures the whole adventure feel and how the characters in the party interact, thinking back on it doesnt really tell you anything about the game and it's all CG but I still really like it.

So what trailers made you get super hyped for a game you were already looking foward or that you care for a game you'd otherwise pass by?

While not strictly a trailer per se, I remember watching this on gametrailers.com back in the day and being absolutely blown away. I still don't think it's been topped as an opening movie or an ad to say "hey, buy this game".

Tekken has always had fantastic trailers. The world and character design is certainly one of the strengths of the series. I wish I could be as enthusiastic about the games themselves... :(

Anyway, the God of War 3 teaser immediately came to mind when I read the thread title. I downloaded it on PS3 and used to watch it religiously to get me hyped before launch. It's not terribly complex, but there is something about the voiceover and camera work that still gives me goosebumps, especially coming off GoW2 and wanting moooooore!

I've always liked this Assassin's Creed Revelations trailer. Shame the game didn't live up to it.

And of course, the MGSV trailers are in a league of their own. Absolutely fantastic editing and song choices. Talk about maximum hype, three (!) E3s in a row.

never forget! :D

There's a nice version with more restrained music:

And I think this is absolutely fantstic - the details! - the game was never released I think, would have liked to see what Yager did with it.

Oh, and this particular Halo 3 trailer has always impressed me with its beauty and simplicity. No loud explosions, no one-liners, no aggressive game retailer promotions. Just a simple scene and great music choice (Raindrops from Chopin).

The whole campaign they did for Halo 3 (and later ODST) were probably where MS marketing peaked.

One trailer springs to mind for me. It's not necessarily the best trailer ever, but I was SO excited for GTA 4 when it was announced that I remember this trailer absolutely blowing me away.

The world looked incredible, and I could hardly contain my excitement thinking about a new GTA coming out the following year. The release seemed so far away, and I eagerly read anything and everything I could get my hands on. The game sadly fell a little short for me in the end. It lost a lot of the silliness I'd come to love about the series, and I don't think think the drab colour palette did it any favours either. Fortunately GTA V restored my faith in the series and all was well in the world, but I do wonder where on earth they could take the series now. It does seem that 5 was surely the peak of what's possible with the game. Hopefully I'm proved wrong at some point!

So many good ones, that DC online one in particular I also remember getting me really hyped for that game XD
One that also sprang to mind was the reveal of MGS4, I saw it just a little after I really got into the series after finnishing MGS3 and going back to play all the others so when I saw this I went nuts!

Thinking back to all the trailers I've really liked for this thread I realised the reason I like them is basically all the same for them all. It's the music, especially how well the marry the music to the visuals on screen.

Halo 3 was already brought up, and for good reason. My personal favourite is this one though.

This was perhaps the first time I was ever properly floored by a trailer. Helped by the fact that Halo 3 was such a massive deal back then too. Truly felt like a massive event for the medium that was bigger than anything before. I love how this one starts off with just the piano strikingly stabbing out of the silence in an air of tension and foreboding, before it wells up when we see the Chief. Then it explodes in to the massive scale of the full orschestra as it pans out across the Ark (or the portal to it at least), which at that point had never been shown before. So that reveal was quite jaw-dropping at the time.

More recently is this trailer for Breath of the Wild. Kind of surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet.

It does some similar things to the Halo 3 trailer, where it starts more subdued and builds up to the full-on bombast. I like how this one starts very quite, letting you just soak in the world in a casual way. Setting up the more calm moments of exploring around Hyrule. Then after a brief build, the erhu kicks in and blows you away. Now it focuses on the sheer scale of the adventure, with the unusual instrumentation and melody adding a kind of exotic sense of adventure, which fits really well with how the game constantly gives you new surprises as you explore around the world.

Another one that's always stuck with me is this trailer for Lords of Shadow 2. Pretty sure no one else will mention this one.

Yet again this is fitting the trend of starting off more low-key and building up to a big finale. This one does it more gradually though. It picks some of the best pieces of music from the game, mainly focusing on the single best piece, and syncs it up really well to the building tension. Really sells the feel of the game being a story of enormous forces that have been battling for a thousand years.

Lastly I'll pick this one from Gravity Rush 2.

This one bucks the tread of building tension, but is still very musically focused. The start of it is pretty good by itself, showing a bunch of great scenes from the game, showing off the wonderful art style, with some exciting music that really gets you in to it. But the best bit is from about halfway through where it takes things down a few notches and shows a little clip of that really great and intimate moment in the game where Kat sings a song that's a recurring motif through the game. Then it fades in to a slightly different version of the song with a few more instruments, but still keeps things relaxed, and almost dreamy, as it shows pan shots across the environments of the game, with a character roll-call too. Then at the very end it pairs it down back to just vocals again for a really nice little ending that hints at some of the more mysterious parts of the story. Such a nice note to end on.

There's a couple of other trailers that I think I should mention, but won't bother spending much time on. Assassin's Creed has already been mentioned here, and even though I've long since gone off the games, there's no denying they have a knack for finding really interesting uses for licensed tracks for those trailers. I think the Revelations one that was posted is probably my favourite. And no thread about game trailers would be complete without mentioning the "Mad World" trailer for the first Gears of War. But like with AC, I'm not really in to that series at all these days, so someone else can post it. Still manages to be a pretty effective trailer though.

Colourful, funny (or at least raising a smile), with fun looking weapons (it is Insomniac) and The Hives playing at the end. I usually don't pay much attention to first trailers but I really liked Overstrike's.

In the end, I only played the demo for Fuse.

No Man's Sky has been on my mind lately, so I wanna make a quick mention of the "Explore" trailer.

I think it does a great job capturing that sense of wonder I feel when exploring the universe in the game. And the music by 65daysofstatic accompanies the visuals very nicely. I also think the quote from André Gide at the end, "man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore" is a nice touch.
I remember this trailer getting me really excited for the game.

Funny that we already had two separate Halo 3 trailers in this thread, and yet I just stumbled upon this other one. Complete nostalgia overload:

You are, all of you, vermin. Cowering in the dirt, thinking... what? That you might escape the coming fire? Your world will burn until its surface is but glass!
And then the music kicks in... Maaaaan, the goosebumps! Well, gonna have to replay the trilogy at some point in the near future.

PS: Also, the editing near the end is amazing.

Y'all, I don't even know how many times I watched this trailer before GTA V released. Rockstar's marketing team is on another level.

Also, Scrustle, I'm with you on that LoS2 trailer. The trailers leading up to release were all really good. Damn shame about the final product, though. :(

I don't even know how many people I showed the original Cyberpunk 2077 teaser. Although I think the more recent ones do a better job of actually portraying the game, the faux-Radiohead and imagery really stuck with me, all of five years ago

The background to this one is that the Chicago Cubs hadn't won the World Series in baseball since 1908, despite playing in a massive market and having loads of cash; their drought was legendary in American sports.

It's a blast from the past but this trailer has always been a favourite

I don't think the game came close to the sense of exhilaration here

Now I've gone down the Mudrunner rabbit hole, with Alex playing it. This is great :)
