It ain’t happening Rich. Episodes 3 and 4 do not exist. Telltale no longer exists.

Even if they somehow manage to get something out there bearing the name, it won’t be a continuation in any meaningful way.

It sucks but it’s done (is my view).

Still looks, plays and feels fantastic. Strange playing it so soon after the original and it’s the first time going through it since left 4 dead. There are so many moments from that game which seem to be lifted from this and fleshed out.

Next up episode 1

I just played the first Deus Ex game. It's one that I've started and stopped a bunch of times, must have played that opening mission more times than I can count but never went past that before. But, since I stream what I play, I finally had the initiative to give that 18 year old game a full playthrough. The graphics held up a lot better than I thought they would, all the different paths were interesting, but the game is a lot longer than I was ready for. I think if I had played it in 2000, it would have blown my mind. Getting to it blind in 2018, I think it's interesting but more for academic reasons. The soundtrack, however, is still a killer and I've been listening to Overclocked Remixes of the music all week.
Also, I chose the Helios ending.
That did impress me. Three possible endings, neither seeming any better than the rest. I'd like to see more of that these days, not just the good/evil endings of today.

September 17th - Human fall flat (Switch)

September 26th - Yoku's Island Express (Switch)

What an utterly charming ride. Straight into my top 5 Switch games.

Looks gorgeous. Sounds lush. Full of charm. A unique idea (a Metroidvania platformer combined with a pinball game). A great map. Loads of secrets. Doesn't outstay it's welcome. Leaves you wanting to do all the side quests afterwards.

It feels like a new official Nintendo IP at times, such is it's ridiculous level of care and attention, and I genuinely enjoyed every second of it I played.

Can't recommend this one enough.

Still incredible all these years later and I still can’t fathom why episode 3 didn’t come out all those years ago.

The problem with leaving it this long is that even a near perfect game will never meet the weight of expectation. I’d still like to see it though.

The orange box keeps on giving. It’s a strange one as I know it so well I could play this game with my eyes closed but it still gives me joy and satisfaction.

After valve’s masterpieces I am moving onto Alan wake. If memory serves me I’m in for a big drop in quality. I hope I’m wrong.

Man, the rate at which you are smashing through all these landmark games is staggering for a number of reasons.

One of which, is the shear pace of it. It takes me on average about 20% longer to finish games compared to everyone else it seems.

I’m either incompetent, procrastinate for too long, or wallow in meanial tasks.

Your a greedy lad Slothson !! Greedy !!

Haha it comes with having a 3 month old so I’m up until the wee hours with her on my lap/chest while my wife gets an early night.

A few of them I’ve gone through before so I’m done in no time others are taking a bit longer. If my wife ever saw my games completed list I dread to think how she’d react!!

Resident Evil Remaster is done! Might be the scariest game I've ever played (I don't play scary games).
I really liked it. I don't have the momentum to replay it right now as Chris but I could easily see coming back to it later and giving it another go.

Had this game for years, but decided to start again and try to 100% it a couple of weeks ago. It's one of a handful of games that I've ever bothered finishing on mobile. Really enjoyed it, and managed to get every combo without looking anything up. Took about ten and half hours of play, and some of them were ridiculously tricky and not very logical, but got there in the end. Not really sure what the story was trying to say but I had a lot of fun with it. I do really like this developer, everything they make has been brilliant, so I'm looking forward to their next release, 'Welcome To The Information Superhighway'.

System Shock

System shock 2 has been on my backlog ever since I fell in love with bioshock. Given the original has been remastered to run on modern machines I thought I’d give it a go. It’s been a real slog and I’ve had to play it in bite sized chunks which probably made it more difficult. The lack of direction, difficulty and length made this a game I didn’t enjoy at all if I’m honest.

I think I need to learn to stop playing when I’m not enjoying something but I struggle with leaving things unfinished.

I think I’ll give it a while before I try the sequel.

06/10
Alan Wake

Behind the repetitive combat there’s an interesting story and some clever narrative exposition techniques. Such a shame most of the game felt like a chore. It’s much more apparent second time around.

Dragon Quest VIII - 3DS

I did it! I got out of the casino, recovered from a slight gambling addiction, and got back to eventually saving the world, in around 62 hours game time.

After finishing the game and discovering there's extra post-game content, including an alternative development relationship-wise with a side character, there's a profoundly generous amount of content in this game. And no need for a constant online connection, micro-transactions or any other underhanded crap like that. Just a complete package, and a proper, very-full game.

Other people's mileage with this game will depend on how much you like JRPG's basically. I enjoyed this world, and it's design, and whenever I browse through "best Dragon Quest games" list online, 8 tends to be near or at the top of those lists. And having not played any other entries I can't say I agree or disagree - it's entirely possible that's true, wouldn't know. But it's a safe entry to start with if you've never played a Dragon Quest game at all.

The #1 complaint I read going into this game is that it is grind heavy. I have no idea what they are talking about. Doing all the side content without any grinding and the final boss dinged me to max level. Unfortunately there are other issues with this game.

To start with a decent thing, the mana system is rather unique. All character have fairly low max mana but your basic abilities in combat give you overcharge that is extra mana for you to use for your stronger skills. Your overcharge drops to 0 after every battle. It would make for decent strategy to use weaker things so you have the resources for the stronger ones to overcome the battles. Unfortunately, this is never needed in the game. With most basic encounters, those weak skills are enough to win by themselves and for bosses, they all have a full heal before them so even the lower mana you start with is enough to serve you. Even then, there are items to restore your mana.

Throughout the game you get six characters. Party size is only three. One of the characters is the only tank that can draw attacks (and some can one-shot or come close to it on the weaker characters), one is very much the best healer along with some damage support, and another is far and away the best damage dealer. These also happen to be the three you start with so the others just sit on the sideline. Made worse, those not in the party don't gain experience and there are items that give skill points to the entire active party, ignoring those on the sideline. I've never seen an RPG dissuade party member swapping so heavily before.

There is a story but it is fairly generic and none of the characters get any development. Just some reveals that go nowhere. All of this would make it a nothing special RPG but also nothing too terrible. That is until you look at the technical aspect.

The game runs terribly and there is no reason for it to. This is no graphical powerhouse of a game. Going in to or out of the overworld takes 10-30 seconds of loading. Switching party members takes a good 5 seconds (another reason to just not do it). Most battles are fine but some have 10 seconds or so of loading for some reason. There is also hitching for 1-2 seconds at seemingly random points. There is even an arena sidequest where you need to fight consecutive battles and you have a 20 minute time limit to clear it. From the time one group is clear to the time the next appears on screen is about 10 seconds. The timer is still going during this and yes, it caused me to fail one of them. All those times are not an exaggeration. It really is a mess. This problem may just be limited to the Switch version but it is one that shouldn't exist.
