Lol, was that me? Sorry! If it’s any consolation,
literally 90% of the pleasure I’ve derived from the game has been in being able to select the ‘Polite’ response at the end of that scene. I was cackling like a loon.

Hahaha, I'm just messing with you, man!
It's not like I was planning on playing the game anyway. A quintessential zero-consequence spoiler.

For the record, I thought it was hilarious as well.

Well, finished it. Now I can read some reviews.

I should have read them first really :|

Honestly, I wouldn't mind reading your unfiltered, properly tagged, spoiler-filled thoughts. Or anyone else who's finished the game for that matter!

Is it that bad?

I almost don't feel like deep-diving my thoughts on it any further than what I said previously. Spending more effort analysing than I feel Cage did writing feels a bit odd, especially when the game is 90% narrative. It'd be like deep-diving an episode of Eastenders.

Ah, it's okay. I can totally imagine the train wreck, especially considering these games' nasty habit of nosediving in the last third.

I’m enjoying it.

It’s like the famous red dwarf triple fried egg chilli chutney sandwich. The ingredients are all wrong but put them together and somehow they work for me :)

Not everyone likes the sandwich however and you wonder why it’s creator was paid so much to make it.

It's actually not a train wreck; technically and (I assume) cinematically it is excellent - the environments are beautiful, it is really well presented and the issues you don't tend to notice when they are done well (the conflict between the cinematic camera and what the player does and sees for example) have all been resolved really well.

The problem (for me) is that it was all very workmanlike. As Kintaris said, this can be ascribed almost 100% to the writing. You have the usual Quantic Dream thing of choosing well-worn cliche as shorthand instead of anything original, so we have the oddly-matched cops, we have the traumatised child, we have the messiah-like leader of a movement. Then the individual characters are cliches within that - the alcoholic cop, the abusive father, the drug addict son. Nothing you do seems meaningful within this framework, as you feel, if they can't be bothered, why should I?

In previous QD games, there were tremendous highs and lows. The opening scene in Fahrenheit, Jodie preparing for her first date in Beyond. There was some great stuff being done in these scenes. There's nothing like that in Detroit, it's just pedestrian and bland. I feel that, in order to keep a disciplined story, they decided to make it more on-rails than previous games. Maybe I'm imagining that, and the user choice will be revealed to be extremely subtle and meaningful instead, but it felt like much more of a guided experience to me than previous games. There were a lot of banal actions - the whole game felt to me like that bit at the start of Heavy Rain where Ethan is brushing his teeth and setting the table and crap like that.

So for me, admirable in its presentation and technical complexity, but everything else felt like I was just going through the motions.

What Chopper said!

Hopefully I haven't come across as despising this game. It's just... OK. I find it a lot harder to talk about mediocrity than I do outright catastrophe.

Kind of want to play as a motion capped Ian Beale right now.

Haha!

The main game would be the Mitchell brothers surely:)

I’m sure Beale would be DLC though. Although if David cage was making the game I wouldn’t be so sure!

No idea where I am up to in terms of the end
Spoiler: show
Just met Rose
Two of the story lines I am invested in and the other I don't have any interest in.

Connors is my favourite even though try as I might I cannot
Spoiler: show
get onside with Anderson and tend to piss him off at all points and even killed Connor at one point
Kara's is second favourite
Spoiler: show
I think Alice might be a Deviant but Cage made that nod a bit too obvious if so?
Markus I have found not interesting at all. I think he needed fleshing out more as he goes from where he is to
Spoiler: show
Head of Jericho far too quickly.
I have played all of Cages games at launch bar Beyond and Beyond is the only one I didn't like. Current rankings (before completing Detroit:

Heavy Rain
Detroit
Fahrenheit

Beyond

Really interested in seeing how Connors story ends up

I agree with you on the rankings both in terms of the games and the characters. Connor is by far the most interesting and if I’m honest I don’t think they needed the three characters if one is so weak comparatively.

So just finished and had several about turns!
Spoiler: show

I loved Markus by the end. He did enough and grew into being the leader of Jericho. I played him peacefully throughout never harming a human right up until the end. North ended up my lover and she sacrificed herself to save me. I was under gunpoint and exploded the dirty bomb meaning Detroit was his as humans had to be evacuated 2% of the world had this ending

Kara and Alice survived (11% had this ending). I lost Luther at Roses house earlier on. I think this story fizzled out at the end after a strong start, the opposite of Markus's. I would not have seen the Alice twist had Luther not hinted at it earlier on in a conversation

Connor freed all the androids after going Deviant. Hank ended up as his friend. I never got an ending as such for him, the last I saw of him was freeing the androids at Cyberlife so disappointed with that as he was my favourite.

I need some Hank and Conner solving crimes DLC in my life
Questions I have
Spoiler: show
The whole RA9 thing was never revealed in my play through so never got any resolution to this?

Why was the magazine blurring Alice in the apartment at the beginning that would have revealed she was an android?

Connor knew how Hanks son had died yet I never discovered that in the game

Was Amanda Cyberlifes AI?

So I Googled Detroit Becoming Human and this is one of the top results:

Spoilers if you have not finished the game

https://kotaku.com/david-cage-games-kee ... 1826550592

This is why I rarely read anything video game related online outside this forum. Things like this never entered my head and I like to think I am better for it. Bear in mind in that scene:
Spoiler: show
Luthor was brainwashed so had gone through the same process Alice had and various other male and female androids are found mutilated. I have also witnessed Markus being shot several times, Connor shot and killed twice (once at close range by Hank) so it all falls down

I’d argue if this is the only place you ever read about videogames that that’s pretty unhealthy.

It falls down because you're looking for intellectual honesty and logical consistency where none exist. The vast majority of article writers are ideologues and not analysts.

In this case, I'm not even disagreeing with the article's conclusion. Cage does have some issues with his portrayal of female characters. But it's pretty obvious to me that the writer reached this conclusion first and that the evidence was haphazardly cobbled together to support it afterwards. Which is a pretty questionable methodology. But why go looking for contradictory evidence if both the author and the target audience are already in agreement?

It's better to take this sort of stuff with a grain of salt, I think. They probably mean well.

So random things I have found out whilst watching numerous YouTube vids

In real life the actor who plays Connor is engaged to the actress who plays
Spoiler: show
Traci
The "worst" ending is horrendous. I watched James Farleys ending and thought his was bad but this was something else.
