How much have you spent on Steam?

Post by Alex79 »

Come on then, time to face the music and 'fess up. If you need to create a second account in case your better half stumbles across this thread then so be it...

Me? $76.83, which is genuinely more than I thought! I've only ever bought World Of Goo, Far Cry (original), Abe's Oddysee and Sin Episodes 1 off the top of my head.

Your turn!

1114.85 Euros for 116 games = 9.61 each.

Obviously doing something wrong here :(

$1,282.57 over eight or so years. That's a lot of money!

However, I do have 913 games registered to my account, so it works out at around $1.40 per game. Considering a large percentage of those games were either free or from very cheap bundles, I think I've done pretty well.

£1568!

Eek! I’m a console gamer but when I’ve dabbled in PC gaming I haven’t waited for steam sales and humble bundles! I’ve tended to buy the games I’ve wanted full price.

It’s slightly depressing given that a lot of those purchases remain unplayed!!

Too much in my opinion - £576, 98 games over 9 years. Works out at about £5.90 per game, and I have played (though not completed necessarily) 82 of those games, so at least I'm not like certain friends of mine I could name that have 500+ games and have played probably about 10%-20% of them. I dread to think how much they've spent!

$1,211.90

Way less than I would have thought as I was a full on PC gamer for years. Although I would guess in the last 4 years since the XBOX One came out the figure hasn't increased much outside a few $15 humble bundles.

As a kid, I used to absolutely love a game on my Amstrad called Silent Service, in which you commanded a submarine during WW2. It seemed like such a deep and involved simulation when I was younger.

I don't suppose that's the game you bought is it!?

The very same, Alex! There’s a sequel too. The ones on Steam are the DOS versions, which are very similar to the Amstrad version you played, and are usually on sale. Never seen Leon’s Atari version but will definitely give it a try. All that said, Submarine Commander on the VIC-20 is still the ultimate submarine simulator!!! (And sorry for turning your thread into a discussion on a very niche corner of the retro gaming world)!

I think I had SSII for the Amiga too but somehow it never captured my imagination the way the original did.

That's exactly it.

I was actually surprised when I looked back, that out of the first ten games I bought on Steam, back in 2009, I've only played one. Start as you mean to go on, I guess. :(

One of those ten was Call of Cthulu, which I'm most definitely looking forward to playing after your podcast comments ;)

None but even seeing this title appear on the forum gives me a mild angst. Just bought a 256Gb SD card for the Switch. Still about forty games I can't fit on it. I need to stop. Can't stop.

Genuinely, I need to stop.

I sold all my other consoles except PS4 and ploughed the money back into the Switch eShop and I am stockpiling like crazy before we (hopefully) start a family. I also gave up smoking so I have about £300 a month extra which I feel I can therefore waste on games I seldom play instead of putting it to better use. At some point, the non-smoking reward system will be questioned by my wife or my conscience but I'm staying strong for now.

Congrats! One of the best decisions I ever made, for sure, so best of luck with it.

£4,702.84... My wife can never see this number.

As for what that works out as an average spend, I'm not sure as I am at work, but I know it is more that 700 games, so somewhere in the region of £6 per game.

I’ve shown my wife your spend so now she thinks im a much more reasonable guy!

My PSN spend must be astronomical. Good job there’s no way to see that.. or is there?
