Yes please, I might actually get around to playing V properly at last!

I have my counter review :)
Spoiler: show
tactical espionage perfection
It’s not the metal gear solid I wanted as like peace walker it’s such a huge departure but when viewed as a separate entity it’s pretty incredible(a bit like resi 7).

Simonsloth wrote: September 16th, 2018, 10:48 am What about Deadly premonition? I’m playing it again at the moment and it’s definitely better this time around. Not sure if that has to do with the improvements in the directors cut version. I suspect that most people will bounce off this still and a few more hours is unlikely to change their opinion.
I dunno, I feel Deadly Premonition started as it meant to go on, with the Tom & Jerry conversation and then meeting the cops on the bridge. I'm not sure it necessarily gets better after that. Great game.

The Director's Cut has that awful framing device where the old man talks to his granddaughter, so in that sense, yeah. ;)

Did the original not have that? I could have sworn I played that bit but only ever had the Xbox 360 original.

I would say Yakuza 0. I did struggle a little to start with where the whole city was closed off bit I persisted and it is now one of my all time favourite games

No, the 360 version didn't have it; it was added later for the western PS3 release (the original didn't get released on PS3 outside of Japan, weirdly enough).

Hmmm... it's entirely possible that Okami (HD) would benefit from a second look. I bounced off it on my first attempt, and my save file is at around 8-9 hours in, so if I revisit it wouldn't be from the very beginning.

I'm sure there's another example of this... I'll get back to you guys.

countstex wrote: September 15th, 2018, 4:26 pm I'm not sure if this counts as it's not quite the same thing, but I had to attempt to play Dwarf Fortress several times before it finally clicked and I could see all the wonderful things that game has to offer. I think a good 4 years past between my first attempt and me finally cracking it. But when you do it's like finally being able to see The Matrix.

Since then hundreds of hours have dissapeared into the mountains. Deep, deep, into the mountains. Some would say... too deep.
Oh! This is good. I have started it a few times myself. How long do you think it took you to get into it the time it actually clicked for you?
Hmm, good question. I would say about 2-3 hours that time. Once I had figured out the loop to ensure they were making ale the whole time so they didn't die of thirst. (I always embark in a place with a soil layer, tried without wood, and other things but ALWAYS soil.) After that I found I could sit back and begin to play with the other systems and see how they all tied together. Also I'm pretty sure I used a tileset like, obsidien or ironhand to help get my head around what I was seeing. These days I favour a more ASCII look though.

I will remember those tilesets for my next go, thanks. I feel like I need to give up work for a couple of years in order to really get stuck in to these serious PC games.
