Slowly making my way through the series. I remember this being my favorite of the Ezio trilogy, and it's still a really good game. Much shorter than AC2, but it introduces loads of cool stuff like calling on the assassins and sending them out on missions etc. I really like the story, and contrary to popular opinion, really enjoy the Desmond side of the story too. It ends on a total cliffhanger, and IIRC Revelations picks up literally where it leaves off. I'll find out if I'm right a little later in the year, and looking forward to it.

27th Jan - Captain Toad Treasure Tracker (Switch)
1st Feb - New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe (Switch)
9th Mar - Crackdown 3 (Xbox One X)
6th May - Mortal Kombat 11: Story Mode (PS4 Pro)
12th May - God Of War '18 (PS4 Pro)
19th May - Horizon Zero Dawn (PS4 Pro)
23rd May - Shadow of the Tomb Raider (PS4 Pro)
26th May - Devil May Cry 5 (PS4 Pro)
1st Jun - Days Gone (PS4 Pro)
8th Jun - Blood & Truth (PS4 Pro)

As is normally the case for games made for VR, Blood & Truth isn't very long and can be played through in a couple of sittings. However, it's the most fun I've had playing a game in VR and is a must play if you have the tech to do so.

Some of the set pieces in this game are amazing to experience in VR, and more than once I was in awe of what I was seeing around me. The story is simple but entertaining enough, with even a couple of moments that make you sit back and think if you really just saw what you just saw.

My only complaint was casued by a glitch which meant after I died in a certain area, I was constantly respawned without a gun so it was impossible for me to progress. As the game doesn't give you the option of restarting missions I had to load up an old save and replay about an hour and a half worth of the game.

On the whole it was great fun, and definitely a game I'll replay at some point and show off to friends who fancy seeing what VR is all about.

Given that it didn't allow you to restart chapters, when you finish the game, does it give you the option to select a chapter to play, eg in London Heist you could stick on the van shooting bit for your mates?

Yeah, you can replay all the missions, but for example if you play mission 15 it'll just be that, it won't then jump to mission 16 automatically.

Good to know. I've hit a bit of a VR lull, so won't be getting this anytime soon. I was buying loads of VR games at one stage, 'to support the product,' so I have a bit of a backlog for when I start playing again.

Into the Breach (PC)

Finished this on Easy (this is starting to become a habit) and not sure if I'll go back and finish it properly on normal. That said, I've closed the game down several times already only to open it 30 seconds later and start a new game.

It's pretty good.

Into the Breach on Normal Difficulty

Jesus Christ, that was hard as nails. Absolutely delighted to get it over with and put it behind me

Total games 41. Total losses 37. :?

For those familiar with the game:

I was in a sticky spot at the very end with 5 power (lives) left and the baddies lined up to knock out 5 on the final turn, and poised to destroy the win condition (vague for spoiler reasons):

I had to sacrifice my best pilot (indicated by the skull and crossbones) by positioning them in that lava line in order to knock away a hornet. You will be remembered, Lily Reed*:

Victory!

*you probably will and all, this game is probably seared into my memory. What a relief to finish it. Absolutely elated.

Yay, congrats!

I've been curious about this game before, but I think I'll go for the Switch version when the time comes.

Okay, I will. :)

I'm not too fond of isometric camera angles, but the gameplay looks and sounds like a lot of fun.

Finished for the second time. I think I preferred it second time around. Was a lot easier what with having all the weapons in new game plus so certain parts were nowhere near as tense. A few dodgy design decisions but overall much better than I remember. I’m actually looking forward to getting my teeth into the sequel,

Are you going to dive right in to the sequel or take a break? I can see both approaches working but would want to take a break myself.

The sequel is really something to look forward to, it’s a very interesting example of the genre mash-ups we’ve seen later this gen. Possibly at the expense of the ‘horror’ but hey ho.

That of course could mean you hate it, but these games have generally succeeded for me.

Isometric works quite well here, probably due to the grid structure, and there’s generally very little obfuscation of sight lines, expected result etc.

Jun 5 - The Fall of the Dungeon Guardians (PC)

This does the first person dungeon crawler thing. You get a bit of variety in the classes you can choose along with a talent tree to boost abilities and get new ones. Combat mostly expects you to stand in front of enemies and trade blows but you can kite enemies given enough room. Puzzles are either straight forward or are trial and error so not much to speak of there. The map is a bit obnoxious, though. Floors mostly look the same without landmarks so its easy to get lost and you need to find the map of a floor to be able to see it in the game. That wouldn't be bad in itself but the map is often placed near the end of the floor.

If you just want to go through the game, it is fine, but nothing noteworthy. My big problem with the game is when you try to play on the harder difficulties. Secrets become required for the extra gear you find in them and that is fine. What isn't fine is that all gear in the game is determined by RNG so you can be playing perfectly but get into unwinnable situations due to not getting enough upgrades on your gear.

Jun 5 - Monster Boy and The Cursed Kingdom (Switch)

Did you play Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap? Well, this builds off the backbone of that and makes a superior game to it. The transformations you get can be switched whenever you need to and they are all useful. There is also a nice variety of platforming as well as a few puzzles to work through. It's real good stuff.

I installed Prey 2017 last night so that’s going to be my next conquest. I know you’re a fan of mooncrash but is that paid DLC or included.

I had to spend a silly amount of time trimming my PS4 hard drive to create the space for the game. It’s crazy how any physical game requires 20-50gb of hard disc space. Makes me appreciate sticking a cartridge in the N64 a whole lot more.

Paid dlc unless you’re lucky enough to have the deluxe version I’m afraid :?

Time enough for that later when you find out if you like the base game. And I haven’t heard mention of it being included in the podcast so it probably doesn’t fit your relentless gaming schedule :D

Haha i prefer to view as my methodical approach to handling my stupidly massive backlog courtesy of C&R. Possibly means I am the most out of touch with modern games as a result! Also I spent a fortune last year on various consoles to address the gaps but this year I’ve spent a net £5.73p on videogames!
