Video Game Magazine Interview

Post by duskvstweak »

So, this article was a quick, enjoyable read on the rise and fall of certain video game magazines. Got me a bit misty-eyed for this side of the industry.

Also, the article reminded me about this podcast I listened to years ago about the death of EGM. It was a bit Seanbaby heavy but had some interesting tidbits in it (if memory serves).

This is a great article. I loved the heyday of gaming magazines. One of my favourites was GB Action, focusing on Game Boy. I got a batch of them off eBay a while back and enjoy a little read now and again.

Nice, thanks for sharing. God I loved magazines so much back in the day. Mean Machines was always my favourite, but I used to get CVG a lot, too. Amstrad Action was my first one I think, I remember being so excited as a 8-9 year old every month for that. I've found loads of torrents over the years of full packs of various magazines, and it's so good looking back over them. The only magazine I buy now is the occasional issue of Retro Gamer, they often have subscription offers like 5 issues for £5 so I usually take advantage of that. I do read magazines (and comics) digitally, but there's nothing like actually holding the latest issue in your hands.

I've got a ludicrous amount of issues of Retro Gamer, a mate of mine subscribes and gives me it when he's finished reading it on the shitter. Can't bring myself to throw them away. I must have hundreds. Great magazine, glad it's still going.

I haven't listened to it yet, but Dan Hsu and some others from Electronic Gaming Monthly's past did an interview about the magazine's history with ARGcast.
