Playdate

Post by KissMammal »

Pre-orders for this boutique handheld, hand-crank featuring mini console are live today - any takers?

I just cautiously placed a pre order for the console and the case.

At $200 it's quite a luxury item, though to be fair the price does include an entire 'season' of games by some well renowned developers.

Our James has reported that shipping to the UK is currently unavailable...
:(

Edit: Update: Apparently that is not the case and he now has his order in.

I really like the idea of this and it looks great, if I had the money to spare I'd pick one up for sure. I'm interested to hear the feedback on it.

It's a little bit too expensive for me but it does look interesting. It's something I'd expect Nintendo to do for a new WarioWare game and it be one of the best things ever.

I hope it comes out swinging.

Some of the first batch of games have been compared to Warioware minigames.

I think the biggest selling point is the design - it's a beautiful bit of hardware, like the Game Boy as reinterpreted by a high end Scandinavian designer. I wish all hardware manufacturers put as much thought and effort into their aesthetics.

This Polygon article gives a fairly balanced overview, I thought.
