Going Back to Classics You Missed
Right people! I suddenly have the urge to go back and play some classic titles that I missed. My first console was the PlayStation 1, so I'm really thinking about SNES era games here.
I already own:
Virtual Console
Super Metroid
Super Mario World
Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
PSN
Final Fantasy 6
DS
Chrono Trigger
The games I'm considering possibly purchasing are:
ActRaiser
Kirby Super Star
Mega Man X
Secret of Mana
Super Castlevania
Super Mario Bros. 3
What other classics from this era of gaming would you consider worth revisiting?
This thread might be useful for others who wish to play some older classics

Re: Going back to Classics You Missed
The Super Star Wars games are worth checking out, I think ROTJ is a bit ropey in places but the music and action are brilliant.
Mega Man 2&3, Streets Of Rage 2 and any Contra/Probotector.
Speaking of Probotector does anyone remember the Megadrive exclusive one with the different selectable characters? One of my favourite games ever

Re: Going back to Classics You Missed
If you're going for a SNES R-Type I would strongly recommend R-Type III: The Third Lightning over Super R-Type. HOWEVER, they've both been removed from European Virtual Console (as has the PC Engine version) so you'd be much better off getting R-Type Dimensions (R-Type I & II) for XBLA
Also, Sean recommends Contra 3 (excellent choice), this is known as Super Probotector: Alien Rebels (which is a terrible name) in PAL-land.
And yeah, Mr American dude, we call the 'Genesis' the Mega Drive. Which is, you know, like its actual name according to its Japanese creators

Well, at least Famicom is the 'real' name. Nearly all consoles have goofy/stupid names to be honest.

Hey. Now, wait a minute.
Genesis does.
What Nintendon't.

We had a similar campaign as I recall with SEGA (or possibly Mega Drive) instead of Genesis.

Still installed on the hard drive of my Amiga 1200. An Another World/Flashback/Fade to Black podcast has been mooted, but I fear it is unlikely to happen.

Fade To Black was a big let down for me.ratsoalbion wrote:Still installed on the hard drive of my Amiga 1200. An Another World/Flashback/Fade to Black podcast has been mooted, but I fear it is unlikely to happen.
Re: Going back to Classics You Missed
I never played it, but Another World and Flashback were a huge part of my gaming as a teenager. Would love that podcast to be made!

Pretty sure that Unirally didn't make it to the Virtual Console, sadly.

Joe Danger is a lot like Unirally and, I think, better in many ways.
