Hated it. Bland, overly wrought and lacking any interesting story. Where were the mechanics? Honestly, if I have to sit through two hours of pacing around a badly lit house (with inexplicably locked doors) at an interminable pace, the least the game could do is flash some breasts my way to make the whole thing almost worthwhile. ;)

Loved every second. I don't want to say a single thing about it that could spoil the discovery for anyone reading this. A wonderful demonstration of the power of storytelling through exploration in an interactive setting. Apologies for the hyperbole, but I honestly don't want to say anything beyond 'play this game'. Oh, and that I find myself really wanting to meet Sam, Lonnie and Katie.

Running total = 58
The running total includes all playthroughs (NG+, alternative difficulties, alternative endings, co-op, etc.), but the list is spared them to keep it shorter.

24th Jan - Resident Evil 6 (PS3)
27th Feb - DMC (PS3)
2nd Mar - Metal Gear Rising (PS3)

21st Jul - The Walking Dead: Episodes 1 - 5 (PS3)
22nd Jul - The Walking Dead: 400 Days (PS3)

Finally decided to finish off the Black Ops 2 campaign after buying it back at launch and only really spending time online. It actually really picked up in the second half with some cool set pieces.

I said I wasn't going to pick up Ghosts but who am I kidding. I will however wait and grab it on the PS4.

The first thing to note that it is too long, I kinda wish they had picked either the first location, or the second, and fleshed that out a little instead of going overboard. It felt at the end like it needed a good editor. Everything else though feels great, especially when it comes to the weapon crafting which is a system of genius at times. Allowing you to create tons of weapon combinations it can be very satisfying to build a master of destruction that fires acid rounds. The franchise does need a rest though but really enjoyed it. Really makes me want to replay the first.

I agree, an editor was needed (among other things) and I believe my first playthrough (on Impossible) was around 21 hours. I've completed it 6 times now and have completed it as quickly as 7 hours so it can be cut considerably, but if you explore (as I did) then there is too much. My problems go far beyond its length however.

Never had the chance to play it myself, but I know many who rave about it. As a real fan of Silent Hill games it's something I'm looking forward to playing at some point.

I really liked it but it is nothing like a Silent hill that has ever come before. There is no combat, it is more about the journey and the story with some very minor puzzle sections so it depends what you want out your Silent Hill. The atmosphere and story is what made me progress, not the mechanics.

I suspect we would share many of those, I had a few other but did not want to bog down the thread. I did enjoy playing it but it has more than a decent amount of niggles that made me wish they had been a lot more focused during the development. Dead space is a series that just seems to have gone for the bigger is better approach without the necessary balancing and design work that is required in the background.

It's pretty good and of the modern silent hills it's the best by far(though I know thats not saying much) its totally worth a play if you want a different take on the series.

Hitman:Absolution-You know I thought that agent 47 was the worst protagonist of a game franchise ever but after playing absolution I no longer think that,I now think that he's the worst protagonist and worst hitman I've ever seen! The story is so bad it hurts to see and not in a funny or entertening way it's just boring at every turn you spend half of the game running from cops or what not and the levels where you're actually have an arena to kill someone are tiny and a over very quickly,I didnt play much of blood money but I remember them being way bigger in that game, and if they did that to put more sense in to why you were killing the people it didnt work because I didnt know why I was killing half of the people anyway.

Gameplay wise it's fine,I mean yeah you can pretty much go guns blazing and be fine which goes pretty much against what a stealth game should be but it was fun to just kill everybody once in that shooting range for making me play that stupid minigame until I reloaded and discovered a way to bypass it, the checkpoint system though is utterly broken what's the point of saving only or position in the level if you're gonna reset everything else!?I would complain about the AI being dumb as a door but I played on normal so Its likely that is way smarter on higher difficulties,Im also really torn on the whole disguise mechanic on one hand it's fair that you would have something to counter the disguise so that the player cant just put one on and have nothing to worry about but on the other hand it makes the bloody things useless in some areas so whats the point of having them?If im honest the best thing in the game was the scoring system which is kinda of silly but it was what kept me playing trying to do my best to get the highest score possible.

So yeah I was a bit underwhelming to say the least.

Hotline Miami

If anyone hasn't played the Puppygames games (Revenge of the Titans, Titan Attacks, Droid Assault, Ultratron) I highly recommend all of them. Typically arcade-y, "retro modern" games that all play very well and have a very strong visual style about them that's instantly recognisable. Ultratron is their take on the dual stick shooter subgenre (as evidenced by the name) and is great for a smattering of action if you've got a little bit of time spare; takes less than an hour to beat the first 40 levels (after which the game starts recycling enemies and bosses).

After that, I found out that Hotline Miami had a Mac version, so I put that on. Quite violent. Would've liked if certain sections weren't designed to force you to use trial-and-error to beat them, though. In a game that encourages (on some level) paying attention to the surroundings and enemies to make it through, having something arbitrarily kill you that you can't possibly know about is a bit of a slap in the face. Even worse is when you're respawned with less than a second to move out of the way of it killing you again. Still, the whole thing was pretty fun; or at least it was intense. I have to wonder how many playstyles there can really be with it, though. From the array of masks, it'd seem like there's a lot, yet for the most part you have to use melee weapons to avoid being swarmed and shot to pieces, and so the mask that gives you a knife to start with seems like the only useful option.

Katamari Damacy (PS2/PS3) I remember reading about this on GameCentral back when it first came out in Japan and being annoyed that it never saw a UK release. Regardless of where the series has gone post-Takahashi, I think the original deserves to be remembered as a genuine PS2 classic. The presentation and soundtrack are the things that'll probably leave the most long-lasting impressions but there's also a really satisfying, well implemented mechanic at its core which, crucially, is never allowed to outstay its welcome. It also costs less than £8 from the US PSN store at the moment. Bargain.

Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy (PS3) I probably got about 2/3 of the way through the PS2 version of this back in the day and it scrubs up pretty nicely in HD to the extent that it looks almost exactly like the SD version does in my head. I wasn't bowled over by the game on either occasion but it remains an entertaining, solid enough platformer and sort of academically interesting as a transitional step towards the work Naughty Dog are currently doing. I haven't played any of the other games in the series but I reckon I'll give them a go in the coming months.

Finished Brothers. Thought it was great, but if I had one minor quibble it would be that the character design on the two brothers was a bit non descript. Had they had a bit more character I would have really emotionally invested in them. That said, there is a lot to love in this game, and some of the haunting imagery will stay with me for a long time.

Bizarrely it's been 4 years since I touched my save file on that game, polished off new game+ while I was there. Still a classic!

Spoiler: show
Super Mario 3D Land (3DS) - All Stars normal and special
What a game! Worth the £169 for the 3DS just for that game!

Ocarina of Time 3D (3DS)
Played it a lot in the past but this is my first time finishing it. Wow. It really deserves all the praise it gets.
Now for the Master Quest.

Blackwell Unbound (PC)
Really cool old style adventure game. It's short and sweet but it's part of a 4 part ongoing series so it can be forgiven.
Sweet soundtrack as well.

The Cave (PC)
I really really enjoyed it. Really fresh feeling charming adventure game. I only played it through once (Time Traveller, Hillbilly and Adventurer) but I'll be playing it at least a couple more times to see all the content.
Kind of tempted to get the sweet figurines from Double Fine. http://shop.doublefine.com/collections/ ... -cave-toys

Darksiders II (PC)
Finally finished it. I liked it a lot but not as much as the first one which was near perfect if you ask me.
Such a shame about Vigil not really existing any more. I hope Crytek buys the IP and gets their new studio to make III and IV. Also I want to know what the hell Crawler is.

DmC (PC)
I was on board for whatever the next Ninja Theory game was going to be after playing Enslaved and DmC didn't disapoint. I didn't get very far in the original Devil May Cry but after playing this I want to go back and see why everyone was complaining about this great game.

Maijin and the Forsaken Kingdom (360)
Such a charming and beautiful game. It felt like a forgotten PS2 gem that got ignored by a lot of people for looking like it. I turned my XBox on for some reason today and this was in there and I thought I'd see where I was, two hours later I've finished it and I can't imagine why I everput it down. This one's a keeper.

999 (DS) All endings
Got it all done now. What a strange game. Not quite sure if I'd say I enjoyed it but it was satisfying. I'm going to roll straight into Virtues Last Reward now and I'm expecting it to be messed up.

The Walking Dead (PC)
Wow. I lost my save after episode 4 and decided I was going to play through 1-4 again but I couldn't wait so I played 5 kind of out of context.
I'm so glad I finally finished it. Such a great ending.

Castlevania Lords of Shadow (PS3)
Bit of a slog in the middle but ultimately satisfying. I personally put it up there with the best games in the genre but there is room for improvement for the sequel.
That post credits bit was nuts.

BIT.TRIP Presents Runner 2 Future Legend of Rhythm Alien (PC)
I started on hard then decided to move to easy to see all the levels. I think the way it tracks your progress doing easy first seemed to be the way to go.
What a cool game. I found the backgrounds a bit distracting sometimes and the control didn't seem as precise as Runner but it was pretty close to perfect.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 (3DS)
Still some levels I can't play yet but I've seen the credits so I'm counting it. The NSMB games are hard to talk about. On one hand they are all kind of the same and could really do with some big changes on the other the play control in these games make them some of the best 2D platformers ever. Although I'm slightly tired of the formula I do look forward to getting a WiiU and trying out NSMB U.

Tomb Raider (2013) (PS3)
Matches 3D Land for the best game I've played this year.
I was concerned at first. I think the 3 previous Crystal Dynamics Tomb Raider games are some of the best games ever and this looked like a linear cover based third person shooter.
It kind of is that but there's enough variety and the combat is interesting enough that I loved it anyway.
I did run into one game breaking bug but I found a guide to glitch past the obstacle so it was ok.
I could have done with a few more puzzles but everything else flowed so well I can't really fault it.
Towers over any of the Uncharted games as far as I'm concerned.

Demon's Souls (PS3)
I wanted to finish this off to let off some steam during my SL1 run of Dark Souls. I had never been able to kill the False King. I knew there were cheap methods but I wanted to avoid them. iwatttfodiwwfa recommended the poison cloud method so I used that to get him down to half health and finished him of with my bastard sword.
I'm so glad I've finally seen the end and I look forward to getting started on new game plus.
This now happily takes the number 2 spot in my favourite games ever list.

BioShock Infinite (PS3)
I can't remember having so many ups and downs with any other games. I hated it many times while I was playing it but in the end I think it was worth it.
Like most story focused games I really think they should have cut about 75% of the combat. It just ends up being an annoying distraction from the reason the play the game.
I'm looking forward to buying it on PC and playing it again in the future. I'll probably leave it a little while.

Uncharted 3 (PS3)
I think it might be my favourite Uncharted but that's only because there's 3 games worth of wearing me down with the combat. I even started to like the shooting by the end.
I think this one got a bad rap for some reason. I would have preferred more of young Nate and less combat but I thought it was good.
Also I thought the bit when Nate get's shot with a dart was one of the better depictions of being drugged in games. Really unsettling and realistic

The Last Of Us (PS3)
I ended up loving it. There are plenty of flaws but they're mostly forgivable. I think they should have added some dialog options rather than only having Joel talk with his fists. There were so many times I would have preferred to see Joel open his mouth rather than jump straight to the neck stabbing.

The Walking Dead 400 Days (PC)
I thought it was interesting and good value at £4. I would rather they charged 2 or 3 times that and I had a bit longer with each character. I hope they have multiple playable characters in season 2.
Did it's job in getting me excited for more Walking Dead.

Kingdom Rush (Android)
It's a pretty good tower defence game.

Renegade Ops (PC)
Grabbed this for a few quid recently after playing and enjoying it on 360 or PS3 when it came out.
What a game! It's what I imagined a perfect game as when my favourite game was Desert Strike on the Game Boy.
Outside of one or two place when my vehicle got physics'd in the environment so I couldn't avoid shots I can't really fault it.
-Renegade Ops Coldstrike DLC
It was pretty good. I played the whole game with one of the new characters and that was fun and some parts of the new levels were good but there were too many places when trying to do a sweet jump would put you out of bounds.

Gridrunner Revolution (PC)
I'm not quite sure what happened. I think it was just the easier difficulty but it looked like an ending.

Sleeping Dogs (PC)
Great game that shamelessly bites from lots of other great games but ends up doing a lot better than it's inspiration in some places. I hope they get to make another one at some point.

Dust: An Elysian Tail (PC)
I bought and enjoyed some of it on 360 but I don't like to hog the TV so I don't play many console games these days.
I was very happy to buy a second copy for PC and I slowly got back to where I was on console and then I couldn't put it down and I just burned through the rest of the game barely stopping.
Thoroughly enjoyed everything about this game. I even liked Fidget by the end.

SteamWorld Dig -A Fistful of Dirt- (3DS eShop)
Fantastic little game. Excellent controls and a great progression through upgrades and finding new abilities. Pretty good wild west style running through the whole game as well.[/quote]
Luigi's Mansion 2 (3DS)
Great game. Some of the controls took some getting used to and I never got the hang of dealing with some of the ghosts but other than that I'm finding it hard to fault it.
Graphically I'd say it's one of the best looking games on 3DS.
Still some work to do clearing gems and Boos but I finished the story.

Rayman Legends (PC)
I only bought this because Origins was a pre order bonus and I wanted it on PC so I might finally play it. Still haven't played much of Origins but as soon as I downloaded Legends I've barely touched anything else.
I still prefer the basic running and jumping controls in the New Super Mario games but in pretty any other way I can think of Legends might just be the most fun I've had with a 2D platformer.
I do wish I had a Wii U to play it on though. They did a good job porting the Wii U levels over to PC but it never feels like the right way to be playing.
Again, finished the story but still plenty more to do.
