Sega's House of the Dead: Overkill apparently coming to iOS sometime this month. I'm a sucker for those games but I hope they come up with a better control scheme than the similar Rage HD had, which I never got on with.

Oh cool, that should be good. I'd rather HOTD 2 though. They're probably the only Wii games I still play. In fact a C&R on the series would be awesome.

I played the heck out of HotD 2 and have played a fair amount of HotD 3 and 4 as well.

Overkill was garbage in my opinion, a horrible, unfunny Westernised spin-off full off terrible design. Made by people who think that making an on rails shooter is just a matter of slapping targets in a stage and moving the camera about.

Mmmm. That was my problem with previous iOS attempts at the genre.

I was talking specifically about the Wii version :D

Yeah I'd definitely agree that Overkill was by far the weakest of the series. Baffling why they'd choose that over the older games. One of my hopes for PS4 would be a really well supported lightgun. I guess Move does all that now, mind you.

Yes I downloaded HotD 4 from PSN to play with Move. It works, but it's not the same as holding the old Virtua Gun for Saturn or G-Con for PlayStation.

Yeah I had HOTD 2 on Dreamcast, the gun for that was pretty fun to use. Much better than pointing the WiiMote at the TV, although I often hold it like a gun and aim by holding it right up to my eye haha.

I bought Overkill with the Hand Cannon:

It looked great but it worked like shit - the calibration was screwed.
After the pixel accurate G-Con 2 it was unusable.

Haha crap calibration or not, I'd have been John Woo'ing all over the living room with that pair of bad boys.

I have a soft spot for shmups and noticed Icarus-X on discount (or free?) today. I've played with it a bit today and it looks good so far, reminds me of Ikaruga in many regards which is promising. Anyone else played it?

Anyone played HOTD:OK yet? Whilst I must admit Overkill was by far my least favourite of the series, the iOS version is great! Super tight controls (trackpad style), decent graphics, it's a great mobile game. Incredibly cynical though, costs £3 then they want more money to play the last level. That's not cool. Anyway, decent conversion to iPhone.

I liked it but I can see why people wouldn't. I'm a bit of a sucker for HOTD at the worst of times but when you add a grind house style to it, I was sold.

If, like me, you've been holding off playing the PS+ Vita freebie, Virtues Last Reward, in the hope you'll be able to play 999 on the DS but just don't have the time or hardware at the moment, this looks like it could be quite an interesting/acceptable alternative : http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/iPad/9+H ... sp?c=51224

Handy.
