No need.

Gamecube.

Then Dreamcast.

Yo, my mate wants a word with you all.

Digital Foundry put out a good video this week, looking at the logical price expectations and various other sensible factors that would affect the PS5's price, as well as any potential price reduction on the discless version.

TLDR: Anything more than £50 would be a sizeable hit for Sony.

Well worth a look if you think it's going to be £300.

I must say, that is mildly arousing.

Yeah it's a great piece this (as always from DF). I've always had £50 in my head as the likely difference. Anything less feels pointless and anything more feels unrealistic. Unless Sony have done some modelling that they're confident tells them how much more they're going to make from a digital-only customer over the ownership life-cycle, and they're willing to gamble on it.

Richard Leadbetter really does hammer home a lot of times how big he thinks the console is as well doesn't he! "A towering colossus of a unit" was a good one!

It looks like a prop from a 90's sci-fi movie, and I love it :D

It does look like something you'd expect to find a Blade Runner deluxe edition in, doesn't it

If anyone is still interested, July 2020 PS+ games are:

NBA 2K20 (has been £2-3 on every format for the last month!)
Rise Of The Tomb Raider

And then as an added thank you to subscribers for a decade of PS+, Erica.

Honestly though, I think PS Now is the much better deal at the moment if you're only subscribing to one of the Sony services. Last month we had Metro Exodus, Dishonoured 2 and we've had Spider-Man, Horizon ZD, Shadow Of The Tomb Raider, Uncharted 4 and Lost Legacy, God Of War and GTA 5 in the last few months, as well as the 100s of other games on the service. Hard to recommend PS+ for the free games alone these days (which is all I had it for), especially since PS Now games can be played online without a Plus subscription.

I’ve enjoyed playing CoD and Star Wars this month, and I’ll definitely play Rise of the Tomb Raider. I’ve also got a backlog of PS+ games I want to play that I feel I’ve already paid for, which is the main reason I’m hanging on to it for now. I’d definitely go for PS Now if I was starting from scratch. That said, I’m paying for Game Pass for my son’s Xbox and that’s becoming an increasingly attractive all in one prospect!

Interesting move from Sony, what do you think their thinking is behind this investment?

That is interesting, such a tiny share too. I'd only guess but maybe it's literally just an investment to make money back from down the line.

So after my two year old decided to put my sky viewing card in my ps4 pro disc drive I thought I'd have to take my PS4 to bits.

Thankfully I've found out there's a screw on the underside that you can use to push discs out if they ever fail to eject

Video here:

https://youtu.be/nXH-EJ5V7fw

Thankfully it worked ejecting the disc and the sky card.

August 2020 PS+ games are:

CoD: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered
Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout

Not heard of the second one, but MW2 campaign was a lot of fun, from what I remember.

Fall Guys is a multiplayer game that caught my eye back when it was revealed at E3 last year. I haven't kept up but it seemed like loads of people taking on obstacle courses (like Takeshi's Castle or similar stuff but all at the same time).

Whats interesting is that it is on PS+ at launch. They could be using that to try and build a large player base and work from there, like Rocket League did.

Some details on peripheral backward compatibility:
https://blog.playstation.com/2020/08/03 ... cessories/

Highlights:
Dual-Shock 4s will work for backward-compatible PS4 games, but not for PS5 games.
Move controllers and the Aim controller will work with VR games, the camera will require an adapter, which will be provided for free somehow. The VR headset itself isn't actually mentioned.

People seem to be outraged about the DS4 not being compatible with PS5 games, but after thinking about it, I think it makes some sense. First off, since when do we expect full backward compatibility from controllers anyway? As far as I'm aware, this is a first for non-Nintendo consoles, and those largely had similar restrictions. More importantly, it allows developers to take full advantage of the new features on the dual-sense in game mechanics without having to worry that players will miss out.

The camera adapter thing also raises some interesting questions, since there's no reason to change the camera port unless their planning a new camera model in the relatively near future. Also, props to Sony for giving the adapters away for free.

Yeah, I'm surprised anyone is surprised that we can't use PS4 pads on PS5 games. This has never been a thing!

Would be good if we can use PS5 pads on PS4 though, like you can use a PS4 pad on a PS3.
