Finally got around to finishing off the main story in this. I like how it blends the Marvel cinematic movies with the Fox XMen and Sony Spiderman ones thematically.

It is, however, really quite buggy and rough around the edges, which is unexpected for one of these games. Quite a lot of characters getting stuck forcing me to restart checkpoints, hint captions referring to characters that aren't in the level and suchlike.

I doubt I'll do much of the open world quest elements in it, they seem pretty lightweight and the bugs make it more frustrating than it should be.

An odd one this, a very enjoyable 2D puzzle platformer with a great steampunk vibe and excellent music, but just let down by being a bit overlong and lacking in variety, as well as one or two puzzles that just didn't work as they were supposed to. The mechanics are a little clunky, but if you like limbo, the swapper, PB Winterbottom etc it's got be worth a go for free on PSN Plus.

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havok on Vita.

Amazing game, thoroughly recommend it to lovers of narrative-heavy games, it's pretty much a brilliant blend of Phoenix Wright, Persona 4 and Virtue's Last Reward.

My strong advice to anyone considering it would be to not read up on anything to do with the game as not knowing the storyline and plot twists is pivotal.

Transistor(PC)-hum...I dont know how to feel about that ending I cant say anymore without spoiling it but let's just say im getting flashbacks from when I finnished bioshock infinite.
I've started NG+ and im hoping seeing everthing again will help me come to a full conclusion, hopefully it wont be the same one I had after I replayed infinite(and im almost sure it wont from the start of NG+ alone and a few other things that seemed intentionally missing in the first playthrough),If anything at least on the gameplay side the game is fantastic and it's worth playing just for that.

I dont get people complaning about the lenght though it felt pretty good for me,I suppose if you go in a straight line the game can end rather quickly because thinking back the game doesnt really have that many areas,it has less than Bastion at least, but since I was taking my time exploring the enviroment, doing the challenges and experimenting with the combat the game felt pretty good in size,I'll try to take a more direct aproach this time to see how long it takes since I unlocked all the functions save 1(it drove me mad not having that and I only needed 15% to get it too :x )But anyway it's a great game and hopefully I'll like it even more after NG+.

I played through Ground Zeroes again, headshotting everyone I could see (with a silencer, of course!) and rescuing all the POWs.

I'll probably go at it again but try and ghost it! Try being the key word.

Lego Lord of the Rings. One big last blast to get through the third film sections. Still not sure about it. Generally fun but I think the latter films are a bit too serious for it to gel in Lego format.

Weirdly enough 'Virtue's Last Reward like' is a buzzphrase for something I will adore and yet I really disliked that game.

I haven't been keeping a list so this will be rather scattered and probably missing a few, either way i've been rather failing this year.

Bioshock: Minerva's Den
Dragon Age: Origins
Fire Emblem Awakening
Ace Attorney 5
Blackwell 1+2
Attack of the Friday Monsters! A Tokyo Tale (Barring DP, probably my favourite game I completed all year)
Deadly Premonition
Steamworld Dig
Digital: A Love Story
Analogue: A Hate Story
The Shivah
Silent Hill 3: ("Don't stand there looking so smug. You're the worst person in this room". Oh Vincent, you're such a creepy, eloquent dude. You make all those locked doors and suggestively shaped monster worth it.)
I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream
Pokemon Y
The Wolf Among Us
Home
Serena
James Bond: Bloodstone
Corpse Party (No amount of mind bleach...)
Costume Quest
Still Life

And now 10th August: Mass Effect. I actually deleted it after getting bored, redownloaded it today and it turns out I was about 40 minutes from the end anyway. It was just... Really rather dull to me. I think going Adept was a pretty bad choice but the whole thing felt flat.

(I really want to lie and put Pathologic on that list but no, it will remain only completed as a youtube vid like the party pooper pants game it is)

Pathologic is one of those games where I love the idea but just wish the execution lived up to it enough for it to actually be fun to play.

Execution really is the achilles heel in an otherwise magnificent piece. I'm not really sure how they would make the game fun per say and keep it as special as it is but some of the game mechanics could really do with a polish. I quite like how grueling the game is, it does an amazing job of pushing you from wanting to help everyone to a point where you just stop caring want the town to burn and sell drugs to kids for guns. The only reason I got as far as I did was because a couple of friends took the other characters so we sort of cheered each other on. I had to stop in the end as the game was putting me in an awful mood...*sigh* Well, that and I simply ran out of resources 23 hours into the game

Just a shame it's so niche as mod support could really make a difference.

Transistor NG+(PC)-So yeah the game is kinda of short if you decide to run through most of it but even then I still managed to nab the missing achivements and 100% the game(not that's hard to do mind you)unfortunally however what I really wanted didnt happen and that ending still left me cold,if anything playing through this game again has led me to dislike the story even more just because I realized how hollow it all fells.I really tried to understand it but it just doesnt work(at least not for me anyway) and here is why(:
Spoiler: show
It's rushed as all hell- From the moment you meet Royce's bot to the suicide everything feels rushed out, this seems to be the part of the game where you're supposed to get some answers the problem is,you get nothing! You're vaguely told a little bit more about the transistor and the process and then you're rushed into the cradle and then to a Boss fight for no apparent reason with an antagonist barely introduced, then it's back to cloudbank where the main character decides to kill herself out nowhere despite the numerous protests of her boyfriend in a decision that can be interpreted as nothing but selfish at first glance.

The characters have no depth- Now I get that they were trying to go a more Bioshock route in this game and have the story more in the background than told to you I get that but this ends leaving all the characters with nothing to work with other than the narrator(that coincidentally has the most lines in the game, shocker!),Red despite her cool design ends up being nothing but a skin for the player to wear she has a lot of cool touches in the game that attempt to give her more of a personality but these arent enough(all we can gather from her character is that she's a dedicated singer and loves her boyfriend.) especially when you expect to build things up to that ending in particular,as for the villains they are just as flat we never really know what their plan really is just that they wanted to save the city from stagnation(I guess) but none of then have a backstory or dialogue explaining why they were doing all of that other than a paultry description,Asher ends up being the more fleshed out of the group(and he's also the one with more lines, hum im starting to see a patern)but we still dont get many answers from him, the Transistor man get all the info when he absorbs them too bad he didnt want to share it!

Cloudbank is the Matrix- Dont get me wrong it's a great setting the problem is once again we dont have enough information about this place and this wouldnt be a problem if the plot didnt rely so much on us knowing that, because we barely understand what cloudbank is to begin with it get even more difficult to understand the direction of the plot later on it's really hard to get invested when I dont know what the rules of the universe are.Im gonna have to get nitpicky here but let me stress that I wouldnt have problem with plotholes if the core of your story wasnt so dependent on them(isnt it right Bioshock Infinite)first I get it that cloudbank is in a level of reality within the computer and the process is in another and somehow the camerata took it for some reason and for other reason it decided to reboot the universe,ok but what's happening with the people of the city?they are being deleted I get that but cant they just log out?The games seems to imply that by all the mentions of people going to the country and if you can just log out why all the struggle of the game matters If people could just log out?Ok let's assume people cant log out for whatever reason you think it's good than in the end there's only Royce and Red left alive plus all the people stuck in the transistor, so she goes in the cradle and bam now we are in the country only we cant be there because the transistor works and if we are on the real world it should even exist there so we must be either inside the cradle or the transistor I'll make a guess and say it's the cradle now why it's in that form I dont know so whatever we basically kill Royce and go back to cloudbank she drive the transistor into her and meets her boyfriend inside the transistor(?)so we are in third level now? Where only the people that the transistor absorbed are?(but wouldnt royce be there too instead of stuck in the cradle since he's a function?)I suposed that makes some sense but it doesnt make it good since the most I could take out of all this convoluted mess was "Love conquers all!"
So that's my poorly explained reasoning for why the story didnt float my boat, which is a shame because they did a similar thing in Bastion and it worked for me but here I just cant get behind it.
I really thought for a moment that this was gonna be the game to blown all the other I played this year out the water but unfortunally it didnt Transistor ends up joining the ranks of other 2014 games with the title "It's really good BUT..."

30th Jul - Wolfenstein: The New Order (PS4)
10th Aug - The Last Of Us: Left Behind (PS4)

I picked up The Last Of Us on the PS4 and as I'd already played through the main game on the PS3 but never getting round to the DLC, I thought I'd start with that.

I played through it in one sitting and as expected, loved it. It was a really nice mix or character development, exploration and action in a real neat little bundle.

I'm going to play through the main game again now and take my time to try and find the collectables and just take in the fantastic world around me.

I've decided to practice my Mario skills in Super Smash Bros Brawl in anticipation of the 3DS game, coming soon. I managed to beat the Classic Mode on Intense, something I never thought I could do. Feel quite chuffed with myself!

You know it's funny you say that - I had a bit of an issue with Virtue's Last Reward as I'm not overly keen on being forced to replay games, so while I've seen a couple of 'endings' I know I haven't seen it all. I'm struggling to go back and truly complete it. I won't get rid of it though as I know that day will come.

Danganronpa is different - while there is a new game plus type experience, it's more a chance to play the game with certain elements removed, and is there for completists I think as opposed to 'play this game 9 times to get a sniff of a proper ending'
