They've had a bit of a touch up. Sunshine especially looks like it's had a polish, all upscaled and HD, at least it looked that way in a comparison video I saw (I posted it somewhere in the big Nintendo thread I think).

I guess the recent re releases have given me unrealistic expectations, or maybe not I don't know. I was just also thinking of the less popular platformers in Crash Bandicoot and Spyro, look and the love those remasters got. That's what I was hoping for from Nintendo.

Yeah, but both Crash and Spyro were remade by other companies. I know Nintendo isn't against letting other companies making games with their characters, but I'd be surprised if they'd let other people do ground up remakes of their Mario games. Maybe Nintendo thinks it's too much work vs. reward? I know Metroid 2 and Link's Awakening got that treatment, I wonder what the decided process is like? Portable games being smaller = easier, maybe?

It looks like these are running under emulation rather than being remakes as such. Which I don’t have a problem with, but it seems a lot of people online do.

I sort of get it, if you’re buying a game again (effectively) then you’d hope it was more than just the exact game running in an emulator.

I guess, but there are dozens of 'classic game' packs that are exactly that; Contra Collection, Megadrive Classics, Castlevania Collection, Namco Classics etc etc. I'd have thought most (all?) collections of old games are just emulations. I suppose it's all in the marketing, but Nintendo have never said they were remakes, and that they're a collection of old Mario games.

But yeah, I've seen a bit of a backlash about it online. As long as they run OK I can't see that it matters much.

I think with Nintendo, they're so restrictive with their catalogued sometimes (or, can have that reputation), a lot of people want a reason to NOT download a free emulator. But, yeah, for me, I just want the game to run and be available. I don't need a remake, so this collection looks fine for me. Or, I'll just find original copies of the games!

That’s a fair point that I hadn’t really considered about there being other classic game compilations out there, and that’s all Nintendo claimed this to be. However I know at least some of those collections at least have some neat little extras in there like a dev commentary or concept art for example. I also think people rightly or wrongly just expected a little more due to it being the 35th anniversary.

I was listening to Filthy Casuals and they were talking about how this collection being available until March makes it seem fairly obvious this is a end-of-fiscal-year product. Maybe it was always planned, maybe it was thrown together quickly due to COVID? The world may never know!

Might have a go on Vigor for Switch. I played the beta months ago, and it seemed like it could be good. It's another free to play online game, not quite battle royal but more of a survival/scavenging thing to it. Hopefully it'll be a bit busier and they allow bigger game sizes, because I had several games in the beta where I never even encountered another player!

Looking forward to SMB35, it looks like chaos.

Got a review coming for Umihara Kawase BaZooka, it's not a franchise I'm familiar with besides that character being my favourite in the unlikely Blade Strangers 2D fighter. It's a decent change of pace but nothing too special. Edit: It's actually not good, short, irritating.

Not really feeling games much at the moment besides SM64. I flogged my One X and Pro to build artificial hype for the next gen. Think the RSI a month or so ago partly made me wary about time spent gaming, but also partly made me sit down and watch films again and just listen to music without doing anything else, and I've been loving that so much.

Little break before PS5 is nice.

Yeah. It makes it the game I wanted it to be. (Fun)

I found single player was just too much of a chore.

A) drag thing to distract
B) quickly run to do objective(s)
C) see if it works or not

Now you can have step A in effect quite alot which helps the rest. It doesn't make it easy but definitely helps make it more enjoyable for me.

When the camera pans out it only goes so far and that's where the real challenge lies, getting stuff done on the same screen.

Alot of fun, up there with snipperclips for great coop gaming

Almost forgot about that Doom DLC. I do want to try it out, but I was considering waiting until the second part is out before I spend the cash. But I just looked in to picking up the DLC or the season pass, and it seems the latter has been delisted from digital marketplaces for some reason. You can buy it from third parties on Xbox, but I didn't find it for PS4 anywhere. Kind of suspicious. I wonder if that's a sign something is up, like maybe the second part is getting cancelled... I hope not.
