Spelunky - Cane and Rinse 160

“I should never have angered that shopkeeper…”

Join us as we explore the spider-infested, alien-contested and shopkeeper-invested world of Derek Yu’s 2008 and 2012 roguelike, platforming homage to the likes of Spelunker and Rick Dangerous: Spelunky. Josh, James, Darren and Sean focus their attention on the 2012 remake, as it’s the game that we are, and most of you listening will probably be, most familiar with. However - do not fear - the original freeware title also gets its time in the sun.

Additional audio used in this show is as follows:

Track 1: Title screen by Eirik Suhrke
Track 2: Adventure by Eirik Suhrke
Track 3: Yeti Caves by Eirik Suhrke

Previously on Cane and Rinse...

Darren Gargette wrote a bit about his Spelunky obsession:

Leon Cox mused on the quality of the music in the HD version of Spelunky:

I thought I was pretty terrible at Spelunky. I've never finished the game, but I have completed the worm and the mothership.

I won't spoil it, but you do get pretty cool weapons for completing them.

P.S. I hate the temple.

Yeah don't you get the
Spoiler: show
laser gun
from defeating the mothership?

I wanted to say that on the show, but, wasn't confident it was right.

Excellent episode guys, you're really all on top form lately, there seems to have been a run of episodes that I've just enjoyed even more than usual (whether it's because they're games I've actually played I don't know, either way keep it up!). I really enjoyed the show despite not really liking the game that much. I'm really keen to get home and play Spelunky now though! Actually excited to give it another chance. I literally had no idea any of the secret levels you mentioned even existed! I do now feel a little foolish about some of the comments I made in the thread about how boring it was and how little sense of discovery it had. Doh >_< Lesson to self - play more of a game before forming opinions!! Thanks all :)

Oh, and I meant to say in the post - great job presenting Josh. My memory is terrible, but I don't remember hearing you lead a show before, it was good!
