Whilst the game was a little hit and miss for many (although I actually really liked it), the menu screen music for Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising by Johna Marrows was rather good in a melancholy, atmospheric kinda way. I've always liked the sound of Mongolian throat singing - very distinctive.

I'll put links to YouTube rather than embed the player; keeps the post shorter ;)

Here's a selection of my favourite game music from across the ages:

Last Ninja 3 (C64) - Intro (Reyn Ouwehand)
Shadow of the Beast (Amiga) - Eerie Forests (David Whittaker)
Turrican 2 (Amiga) - Main Theme (Chris Huelsbeck)
Turrican 2 (Amiga) - The Great Bath (Chris Huelsbeck)
Lemmings (Amiga) - Complete Soundtrack (Brian Johnston/Tim Wright)
Streets of Rage (Mega Drive) - Fighting in the Street (Yuzo Koshiro)
Streets of Rage (Mega Drive) - Beatnik on the Ship (Yuzo Koshiro)
Streets of Rage 3 (Mega Drive) - Fuze (Yuzo Koshiro)
Revenge of Shinobi (Mega Drive) - Terrible Beat (Yuzo Koshiro)
Donkey Kong Country (SNES) - Aquatic Ambience (David Wise/Robin Beanland)
Comix Zone (Mega Drive) - Night of the Mutants (Howard Drossin)
Command & Conquer (PC) - Act on Instinct (Frank Klepacki)
Command & Conquer (PC) - Mechanical Man (Frank Klepacki)
Little Big Adventure (PC) - Title Music (Philippe Vachey)
Lost Eden (PC) - Lost Eden Theme (Stephane Picq)
Diablo (PC) - Dungeon (Matt Uelmen)
Crusader: No Remorse (PC) - Dimension 2012 (Andrew Sega)
Quake 2 (PC) - Descent into Cerberon (Sonic Mayhem)
Unreal (PC) - Dusk Horizon (Alexander Brandon/Michiel van Den Bos/David Ewing
Halo (Xbox) - Theme (Martin O'Donnell/Michael Salvatori)
Jazz Jackrabbit 2 (PC) - Laboratory (Alexander Brandon)

The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion (PC) - Atmosphere 7 (Jeremy Soule)

I could go on, but I think there's enough listening to be getting on with for a while ;)

Here's another bunch of my favourites of recent years.

An obvious choice perhaps made famous when coupled with that trailer, but there's little denying it's quite an evocative piece of music in its own right.

Sadly, this particular piece of music wasn't included in the actual soundtrack album for Ninja Theory's post apocalyptic take on the classic tale.

Whilst the game, by most accounts, wasn't up to much I always liked the main theme.

Then we get to this one which I like because a.) It marries several styles into one track b.) It's rather long in a good way c.) It's kinda batshit crazy

Lol, that last track is amazing (bloody hell, didn't realise it was that long)!
Al82's post reminded me this hadn't popped up yet...

I really like that C&C music! :)

Although this isn't technically from a video game, it's honestly really hard not to think of this game when I listen to Carter Burwell's Millers Crossing score these days.

Whoever thought of marrying that trailer to this music should be applauded as it was about as perfect a combination as one could have wished for.

I really wish EA would do a modern remake of this game...

Some really great stuff here. I'm glad to see Darksiders 2 getting some love, that's a great soundtrack. I also appreciate Skyrim, Fez, Mirror's Edge and of course Zelda. And on that note...

I've also had this soundtrack in my head recently. I really love it.

These are some of my favorites:

The intro music from Cannon Fodder on the Amiga

Intro from Streets of Rage 2

and this always made me laugh back in the day

So a fan remix album of the Majora's Mask soundtrack was just released, called Time's End. As soon as I heard it I knew I had to get it myself. Not only because it's really hard hard to find any decent covers of that soundtrack, but this one is astounding. Just listen to this:

You can either download it from the main website here, or donate on the Bandcamp page here. I personally went for the latter option. Seemed way too good to take for free.

Anyone know why the instrumental May Payne track that's featured on all 3 isn't on the album for 3?. Here it is I love this piece:

It's in all three of the Max Payne games, it just alters every time and yes, it is a fantastic piece of music.
