Here's the latest episode of our weekly podcast dedicated to videogame music – Sound of Play

For many of us, it’s hard to think of almost any videogame without our minds conjuring up the music that accompanied it. What we aim to bring you with Sound of Play is a diverse sample of our favourite pieces from the many air-punching, spine-tingling, tear-jerking and grin-inducing videogame soundtracks we’ve heard over the years. Of course it’s not just about what we like, so if you venture over to our forum at caneandrinse.com you can put forward your favourites and we’ll start to include a selection in the playlist for each show.

This show’s presenters were: Leon Cox and Sean Bell from Midnight Resistance and The Computer Game Show

with community contributions from Brigand, Martin Uglow, MHninjabear and Mononoke

Track listing for this show is as follows:

Track 1: Do-be-do-wap-bop by Tommy Tallarico - Earthworm Jim 2, 1995
Track 2: Fading Suns by Tim Carroll/Ernie Ernest/Scott Moskos/Colin Rea/Barry Suttle - Emperor of the Fading Suns, 1997

Another great episode of course. I've been listening to The Computer Game Show, and it's good stuff.

I have to say though it does always disappoint me a bit when people talk about Hyper Light Drifter being too hard. It's not anymore! I had the same problem, but shortly after release they updated the game to add in i-frames and other small tweaks to make it way more manageable, and it made a huge difference for me. I had a blast with it once they made the changes. It's such a shame hearing people say they can't get on with it because of a problem that's long been solved. They're missing out on a great experience! The soundtrack also does something really cool right at the end of the game too.

I've noticed something a bit strange about the Hyper Light Drifter soundtrack though, which is also a thing in the Fez soundtrack, so I expect it's a conscious stylistic choice by Disasterpeace. Both soundtracks have this background fuzz to them. A white noise in the background. I don't think I fully get why it's there. I think it's supposed to add texture to the music, by giving it kind of a digital version of the fuzz you hear off LPs.

You'll be pleased to hear that Sean learned about the HLD patch/updates after recording and has since pledged to give it another go.

Nice! Good to hear people giving it another chance who bounced off it before.

Not sure if it right place to ask but it would be good to get sound of play on http://www.wifiradio-frontier.com. This is so we can listen to your fab show on internet enabled radios and enjoy the tunes while doing the washing up.

Cheers CODE, I'll look into it but I have to say that their site makes it as clear as mud as to how we could get our podcast on there. :?

Just found a work around. Its not an ideal solution for those who want to listen to the podcast on their internet radios but it at least allows you to listen to the podcast in some form.

On http://caneandrinse.com/sound-play go to the episode you want to listen to. eg. on episide 1, right click on the download link from "Podcast (sound-of-play): Download (Duration: 48:39 — 67.1MB)" then "Copy Link Location".

Then log in to your http://www.wifiradio-frontier.com account and go to "My Added Stations" then click "Add another station"
Paste the link to "Station URL", fill out other fields and select Type=MP3 then click the blue right arrow to add the podcast episode. To your "My Added Stations" list.

To listen to it on your internet radio, navigate to the "My Added Stations" on the radio and select the episode you just added.

Unfortunately you need to do this for each episode but at least I can now listen to it while doing the washing up :) sheer bliss ahhhh.
