This week, Sound of Play brings you a musical collage — a constellation of audio memories from the year 2014. Rediscover favourites from 2014 or encounter tunes for the first time. This mix contains excerpts from 137 of the year’s games.

We challenge you to test your knowledge of videogame music by trying to identify all of the games included within, and you can collaborate with members of our community by sharing your knowledge in this here forum thread. Soon, a video revealing the identity of each game included will be posted on the Cane and Rinse YouTube channel.

You can keep up with this project on the Play;Write website:

Or download this and every mix that has been created so far at 320kbps here:

Really nice work this week Ryan, those new tools letting you go into full-on mashup territory...
Spoiler: show
Quite a lot of ‘I know I know that, but can’t place it’ this week.

Let’s try...

Smash WiiU
Bayonetta 2
To the Moon
80 Days
Wolfenstien
The vanishing of Ethan Carter
Hearthstone
The Sims 4
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
Hyrule Warriors
Octodad
MGS4 Ground Zeroes
Child of Light
Thief 4
Dragon Age Inquisition
Titanfall
Prey
Sunset Overdrive
Guilty Gear Xrd
Mario Kart 8 (best piece of music the series has had if you ask me, which you didn’t)

I’m sure there’s one of the FF13 sequels in there, maybe some Rocket League? Definitely an Oddworld game but I forget which one it was that year. And was that Wreck-It Ralph or am I going mad?

Hi, first post on C&R! Here are the tunes I picked up on that haven't been mentioned yet.

6:49 Dark Souls II

15:15 Lisa

23:50 Velocity 2X

27:40 P.T. voiceover

42:45 Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare

48:36 Destiny

50:45 Valiant Hearts

1:04:29 Outlast

1:05:08 The Walking Dead

41:38 I've lost my mind trying to figure this one out. As soon as it came on I started to hum to it and knew the melody instinctively. But holy hell I can't for the life of me figure out the game. Please help. Please please please help.

Amazing video, thank you!

The mystery of 41:38 deepens (37:09 in the video). I swear I was humming along with the melody like I had heard it a thousand times, but I have never played the game from the footage.

Using Shazam, I was able to track the music down to a Korean MMO called 'Monarch", which I suppose is where the footage is taken from. This game has never been released in the West as far as I can tell, nor was it released on Steam. Credit for the track seems to go to (surprisingly) Norihiko Hibino, whom I have worshipped for decades for his jazzy Sons of Liberty tracks that put Harry Gregson-Williams' work on the same game to shame.

But I have heard this melody before. Could it have possibly been plagiarized from another source? According to one of the only English YouTube videos about the game, it has art assets that infringe on other copyrights.

I am the only person in the entire world who cares about this now.

I think there must be a mistake, there is no resogun in this video! :P
