Re: Our Patreon

The fallout from this appears to be rather substantial, on Twitter at least.

A lot of people, creators, streamers and so forth have reported that they have lost a number of Patreons over the last few days, which is a terrible shame as a lot of these creators have built up a content process based around these donations and may find it hard to produce content in the same way.

I'll be honest, I only subscribe to one Patreon as I want to stay focused on the amount that I donate and remain focused on what I feel I enjoy the most. Personally, I find it easy to get carried away with things like this and end up oversubscribing. I have the same approach to charities.

It's frustrating, as it's another layer of filth that gets in the way of nourishing, what you want to see flourish.

What ever the outcome is and whatever is the best in the long run is for your chosen selection shouldn't be lost and I'd welcome any other approach that means that 3rd parties don't tap into that revenue stream just because.

Well that's two "it's 2017 so we'll take what victories we can" news stories in one day. Merry Christmas!

Evening, gents. Just checking if the RE show will go up this evening, please?
Am I right it's via a Patreon post? Thanks.

So frustrating.

I can get it on my iPhone and my iMac but it won’t subscribe/download on my iPod Touch.

Random.

I managed to get the RSS link on my Touch, through logging into my emails on Safari, copied it to the Subscribe URL link in Podcasts, clicked subscribe ................nothing.

Tried typing in some nonsense, it’s says, sorry can’t find the server or feed. Paste the link from the email in again ............ nothing.

Crap like this drives me mad.

Do we know when exactly the donation button is planned to arrive?

Soon is all I can say.

It’s yet to be ascertained whether or not we can offer the ‘week early’ feed to one-off donators however.

The facility isn’t provided by PayPal as it is with Patreon, plus the admin could quickly become unmanageable.

Stay tuned.

I do plan on donating regularly, but I don't mind if the week early bonus stays Patreon-only. How would it even work? There would be no way of knowing from your side whether any given donation is a one-off or not.

Probably for the best to keep it simple and manageable. It just opens the floodgates if you start making exceptions, I think. And it's not like you're keeping any content away from non-Patreon listeners.

Just my two cents.

Yeah, I'll hopefully be testing it tomorrow but it should be all set by the weekend at the latest all being well.

We've set it up as a reward tier so it's only available to those who are giving the minimum of $1 a month, it generates a feed specific to that patron and if they unsubscribe, the feed is automatically disabled.

Ksub was specifically referring to one off PayPal donations there, Jay. And he’s right - it’s probably not practical to offer the week early show to those who kindly put something in the tips jar via PP.

I don’t know if you’ve done this before but I would love to hear on the next mini cast or elsewhere how you choose the podcast list.

Is it a case of individuals bringing personal favourites, timing certain games for anniversaries and picking a popular series to wade through. Or is it more complicated?

I wonder whether there is a place for Patreon members to maybe show their interest in a game/games from your shortlist for next year? It sounds crude but if you were deliberating between game x,y and z for the last slot. Could the community have a say? Or is that dangerous territory.

Just a thought.
