I beat Prey and then couldn't stop thinking about it. I didn't like the ending, but then I listened to the Cane and Rinse episode, watched Noah Gervais' analysis of the game, thought about it all a bunch more and while writing about my favourite NPCs (spoiler: Danielle and Abby) ended up talking myself round as to why the ending is actually critical to the choices you make in-game. So I put my first ever Medium essay up:

That is really excellent - well researched and well written - bravo!

I (and many on here) struggled to get into the game at the beginning, but the writing gradually pulled me in (initially January, but later the various groups of survivors and non-survivors) and it became my game of the year. Plenty to think about in your article, very impressive! I enjoyed hearing about Abby and Danielle again. :)

Thank you Chopper, I'm so glad you liked it!

2017 was a pretty amazing year based on the games I tried, but I think Prey is up there for me too. :)

Gonna shamelessly promote my podcast Three Nice Things again. We covered The Phantom Menace and it was a lot of fun. I mean, the episode was. Not Episode 1. I mean, our episode 1 is about the Mario Bros. movie. That's fun.

And those with bad reputations, but I was not prepared for the love my co-hosts had for this film.

You need new co-hosts.

I tried to write a piece about why the movement works so well for me in Prey and the Dishonored series by Arkane Studios:

I've just noticed this. What a great project! Really enjoyed those articles. My girlfriend is dragging me along to their gig in Dublin in May. Quite looking forward to it now.

Well, please do. It's certainly worthwhile. I might actually steal your idea! It's a great way of preparing for a new work.

Wish I was going to see him this year, he's in Birmingham right near my birthday. I saw him on my 29th birthday back in 2008, it was brilliant.

Yeah I'm quite excited for it now. I've been going through their back catalogue and, almost inevitably, there's a string of songs that I love but didn't realise were theirs. So I'm turning into an accidental fan.

I'm also just looking forward to seeing a band on stage. Until very recently my musical life was spent in dark rooms listening to machine music. A real-life, honest to goodness band is still something of a novelty for me, particularly in an arena setting.

Brighton branch.

I believe he’s moved away since the tragedy with his son but he still has a lot of contacts here so you still see him around a fair bit.
