Spielberg Movies, ranked

Post by duskvstweak »

We did this with Tarantino awhile ago, but since Spielberg has more movies, let's just keep it Top 10, unless you really feel the fire. Also, if you can't do ten, don't sweat it. We don't have enough Top 4 lists online!

1. Jurassic Park
2. The Lost World: Jurassic Park
3. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
4. Jaws
5. Minority Report
6. War Horse
7. Saving Private Ryan
8. E.T.
9. War of the Worlds
10. Ready Player One

I’m speechless at this top 10, Eric. Ah, good old subjectivity.

That’s one I haven’t seen actually. For someone who considers himself a fan I am a long way behind on my Spielbergs!

Well, I've still not seen Sugarland or Empire of the Sun, so I'm not doing great at my due diligence, either.

I’d find it hard to pick a favourite, but both Jaws and Duel would be right up there. I’m afraid to say The Lost World would be nearer the 1941 end of things for me though.

Now will anyone put Always in there..?
Or even Hook, which he hates himself!

Looking over his Wiki page, he's actually directed fewer films that I'd imagined. So, I've not seen a lot of them, so ranking the twelve I've actually seen:

1. Indy & The Last Crusade
2. Indy & The Temple Of Doom
3. Indy & The Raiders Of The Lost Ark
4. Catch Me If You Can (and the book is brilliant)
5. Minority Report
6. Jurassic Park
7. Duel
8. Indy & The Crystal Skull
9. Ready Player One
10. ET
11. Hook
12. Jaws

Haha, I just can't get in to Jaws! I'll have to rewatch it, not seen it in a long, long time.

Duel and Jaws have very similar vibes, so I get that. I just added Duel to my library's collection and I'm happy to see lots of people checking it out. Hoping to make new Duel fans!

And I'll defend the Lost World to my grave, while fully admitting I'm a dinosaur/JP-series fan full of bias.

I know people are gonna disagree, but you rank the Indiana Jones movies the same as I do! I mean, Crystal Skull would be near the bottom for me, but it looks like we feel the same about the original three!

I did not care for the Post all that much, but glad to see his newer stuff makes it onto other peoples list.
I almost put Munich on my list, too, but it's been so long since I've seen it, I wasn't sure if it would have the same effect on me as it did when I first watched it.

I mean the first three Indy films are probably interchangeable for me, but gun to my head I'd go with the order I picked. I could happily sit down and watch any one of them (including Skull) on any given day.

I was crushingly disappointed by Crystal Skull when I saw it at the cinema. After years of anticipation, and how much love I had for the originals (they were really my Star Wars) it was never going to live up to my expectations. But worse than that, it was flat out a bad film.

HOWEVER - when my eldest was about 8 or 9 we watched all the Indy films, and away from the expectations, I ended up enjoying Crystal Skull. I can't sit here and tell you it's a good film (although Rotten Tomatoes is rather positive on it) but I can tell you I enjoyed it. Its probably more nostalgia for the character than anything, but I like it.

I really keep meaning to seek out the Young Indy TV series, having only ever seen a couple of the episodes when they were broadcast.

I’ve done a top ten. I’ve seen most of his work and found this quite tricky.

Hook would be no.11!

1. Jurassic Park
2. Jaws
3. Schindler’s List
4. Raiders of the Lost Ark
5. AI
6. Temple of Doom
7. Minority Report
8. Last Crusade
9. ET
10. Duel
