The C&R football thread - armchairs & plastics welcome ;-)
Re: The C&R football thread - armchairs & plastics welcome ;
There wasn't a lot of defending going on last night but it was a great game to watch.
Still, at least you guys scored, I'm a Newcastle fan and had to settle for 0-0

Nice to see Man Utd get the rub of the green from the referee for once!
Re: The C&R football thread - armchairs & plastics welcome ;
I'm so glad there was a winking smilie at the end of that post. I fully expected to lose to Man United and if Howard Webb had been in charge I'd have expected those decisions but I'm annoyed with Mark Halsey. I was very happy with the Liverpool performanceand to lose in this manner is harder to take than just a plain old bad display.
Funny how before kick off Fergie rattled off some stats about how Man Utd have only had one penalty at Anfield and rarely have sending off's in their favour aswell. What happens? They get VERY fortunate decisions in both categories.

John Terry's retired from England! Get in!!!
Re: The C&R football thread - armchairs & plastics welcome ;
John Terry retires the day before his FA hearing. You can't help but think he's got wind of the outcome. It should ATLEAST mirror the 8 game ban Suarez got.

Everton are doing us so proud so far this season. Still letting teams attack us too much, but we're holding up most of the time. Moyes deserves to win something after all his dedication, I more want us to win something for him than for the club itself!

Im a Man United fan. My dad was from Salford and told me when I was very young, in no uncertain terms, I was to support United.
Anyways, I read this interesting report the other day about pre match build up and psychological influencing of officials. It also allured to some ridiculously secretive ring of corruption amongst FA referees. It all started around the 1992/1993 season and has been in effect ever since.
Weird, huh?

Yes, oddly it's the exact same conspiracy theory that Man U fans had about officials and their bias towards Liverpool in the 70's & 80's. as you say, bizarre!
Re: The C&R football thread - armchairs & plastics welcome ;
I support (well follow now I guess) Colchester United, which is where I grew up. I don't get back for many games these days, which is a blessing in disguise this season.
We've not won a game in nine attempts so far, just sacked our manager and don't really have any money. However, we did invest in a better stadium a few years back, so the finance isn't a surprise. It is just a matter of trying to ride out a few seasons and survive before we can try and rebuild a decent side.

Nice one!
We've just lost 1-0 at home to Brum, but I missed it as I'm away.

A draw away at Reading is a bit disappointing but as we came from behind twice I'm happy with a point.

And Brighton are still top!
Re: The C&R football thread - armchairs & plastics welcome ;
We won a game ! Suarez gets assaulted a still can't get a penalty. In my (biased) view that was one of THE clearest penalties that wasn't given. I shouldn't be surprised anymore.

Since Fergie did his piece on Suarez diving, he has hardly won a free kick let alone a penalty. Hope the tide is turning as MOTD was the first time I have heard or seen someone defend him outside of Liverpool

There's a piece in The Guardian today saying much the same. Though - racist or not - he is an odious little twat, his reputation should not be considered by refs in those situations. It happens to plenty of players though, not just Liverpool's.
