I've been listening to a lot of Fugazi this week. Always knew of them but somehow never listened to them until a couple of years ago, but they're great.

Fugazi are great.

The Argument will be forever linked with me playing Phantasy Star Online on the DC whilst it played in the background.

Just sat and listened to the new Godspeed You! Black Emperor album: G_d's Pee AT STATE'S END!

Actually rather different to previous work, a lot more ambient synth type stuff. Glimpses of their old selves are peppered through the lengthy tunes, but it marks a definite departure from their old stuff. I liked it, but on a first play I didn't love it. And that's the first time I've ever said that about a GYBE album. I'm sure I'll come to love it, but it's not as dark and menacing, as euphoric or as...interesting as previous albums. I'll be listening many more times before making my mind up, though.

I must have listened to this about six times in full now! I really like it, it's a great GYBE album.

4 thumbs up, out of a possible 5.

It's better than:
Lift Your Skinny Fists...
Yanqui U.X.O

It's not quite as good as:
F# A# ∞
'Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend!
Asunder, Sweet and Other Distress
Lucifarian Towera

(...in my opinion etc.)

I'm listening to this, a new collaboration between Nine Inch Nails and HEALTH.

"HEALTH?", you're (probably not) thinking, "Where have I heard of them before..?"

Well, they did the Max Payne 3 soundtrack years back.

The new Perturbator album, Lustful Sacraments, is fucking brilliant. He's exploring a whole new goth sound mixed in with his trademark synth/darkwave.

If you've a passing interest in any of those genres, check it out. Very Sisters Of Mercy vibe in places.

I’ve been enjoying this. Definite Sisters vibe, and some really inventive ambient bits too. It pairs very nicely with the new Gary Numan album too - by chance had them back to back on a playlist in my car the other day!

Cheers for the heads up on that. I've found my reading music for the week. I much prefer his tracks without the vocals though.

I've been listening to the new Black Midi album 'Cavalcade'. It's less of the noisy math rock stuff from the first, on this one they venture into jazz fusion and prog; which is right up my street. Very Mars Volta at times and one track sounds more like Mr Bungle than Mr Bungle do these days. There's a bit of filler, but the ones that hit are incredible.

Oh cool, I'll check that out. Love Mr Bungle, although I agree their last album (or, I suppose, their first album) isn't really indicative of their trademark sound at all.

Sasha - LUZoSCURA

Where to begin with this masterpiece? For those that have followed underground electronic music for any reasonable period of time will have heard the name Sasha thrown about a fair bit. Legendary is probably an understatement to describe his career. So I will refrain from the full biopic here.. Main reason I am here, he dropped a new mix project recently (first one in 8 years).

Search out Luzoscura on Spotify, Apply music and wherever its hopefully available. Press play from track 1 with no shuffle and lose yourself. I managed to nab myself the special edition vinyl set (despite having no way of actually playing it).

Standout track for me:

Here’s something specialist… Witch Vomit - Abhorrent Rapture. I’ve always been very selective about death metal, probably only genuinely liking a handful of albums, although I would count Bolt Thrower’s Realm of Chaos: Slaves to Darkness in my top fifteen albums ever! This might not quite reach those heights, but it is very good - fast and dirty, barbaric and melodic, menacing and atmospheric, sometimes even veering into prog territory at times, but death-prog of course!

Death Metal names are hilarious, but that is a good EP. For whatever reason I've really clicked with death metal this year, Tomb Mold is so so good. But I've been doing a Galneryus discog run and very much enjoying the cheese.

Captain Dangerous...

Sadly the band broke up years but really into their stuff past few months, so much so I developed a close personal friendship with the lead singer.

https://open.spotify.com/artist/17tSnwx ... LJ4sZOIhAQ

It's no coincidence that their most popular track serves as the intro and interlude music for my new podcast.

A few of the members have formed a new band with another friend of mine (they met through me ha ha). Called 'Stuart Pearce' a pseudo punk political activist band with a shit hot synth back end and catching rhythms. Well worth checking out in their proto phase.

I would recommend both Entombed and Edge of Sanity.
