Let's rank our top three Bond films

Post by Truk_Kurt »

In light of the release of No Time to Die this week. I thought it would be fun to rank your top 3 James Bond films. Here are mine:

1. Casino Royale
To me this is nigh on the perfect Bond film. It was an almost reboot of the franchise as it became less about gadgets and cars chases and was almost a drama in places, that's not to say that the action sequences weren't great. This was a more brutal take on Bond but it maintained its sophisticated style. Le Chivre was a great villain and I felt that the relationship between Bond and Vesper Lynd was the best Bond/Bond girl relationship in any Bond film, it was the first Bond film where I felt that he truly loved her and was devasted when she both betrayed him and died, whereas in most other Bond films I always just got the impression that any woman he came across was more of a temporary relationship, but with Vesper it was like he would have happily spent the rest of his life with her and retired from being Bond. That's a long appraisal but Casino Royale is one of my favourite films ever. I should also mention the incredibly tense card game scenes which were done so well and I have no idea how to play whatever game they were playing!

2. Goldeneye
The first Brosnan Bond film and also my favourite of his tenure as Bond. From the opening scene with Sean Bean it maintained its quality throughout with lots of great action sequences and a menacing villain.

3. Goldfinger
I think the first Bond you watch always holds a special place and that was Goldfinger for me. My Dad introduced me to it and so I think a lot of my fondess for the film stems from watching it with him. It does have some iconic moments though such as the lady covered in gold and Goldfinger makes for a great villain with some iconic quotes, "No Mr Bond, I expect you to die"!

I've not seen a Bond film since I was a kid, other than Casino Royale, which a mate put on once when he came round about 18 years ago - or whenever it first came out on DVD. I remember enjoying A View To A Kill and The Man With The Golden Gun as a child, but couldn't tell you any of the others, aside from their title. I keep meaning to watch them all in order at some point.

I'm a bit of a non fan really as the n64 game got me into the franchise and i never really stuck with it after brosnan. Sure i've seen some DC films but i don't remember much aside from a Home Alone bit where he was in a scottish house trying to survive.

I really like Goldeneye though. Not sure if you knew that.

Casino Royale
I just rewatched it a few weeks ago. It's still such a great action movie, let alone a Bond film. There was so much energy in the room when I saw it in theaters, I'm glad it still has that 15 years on.

Goldeneye
I think this is still true. Sometimes, I'm a bit more partial to the more action movie-esq Tomorrow Never Dies, but Goldeneye has a brutal, cool seriousness to it all. And Sean Bean!

The Spy Who Loved Me
When I think classic Bond with secret bases and evil henchmen, I'm thinking of this movie. It's a lot of fun and, hey, like Tomorrow Never Dies, it's got another spy working with Bond! It's probably Moore's best, though I dig For Your Eyes Only a lot.

Picking three is hard! So, honorable mentions go to Thunderball, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, For You Eyes Only, License to Kill and Tomorrow Never Dies
