I'd prefer to remember him for films like The Long Good Friday, 24/7 and Felicia's Journey than that SMB abomination, but RIP indeed Mr Hoskins.

I watched the original on Netflix recently. I believe a sequel has been planned ever since the first one came out, but who knows if it will ever happen.

Ahh, that's cool. As kids of the 70s/80s we were fully exposed to 'classic' era cartoons on TV so even though the film is quite adult in some parts we got the references to Looney Toons, Tom & Jerry, Betty Boop and whoever else. I don't know if today's kids get to see so much animation from the 30s/40s.

He got most the references, but did ask why Betty Boo was in black and white :D

RIP Bob, it was good to talk, etc etc... Bob Hoskins was a remarkable actor, and it's absolutely right that he should be remembered for the Long Good Friday, Mona Lisa, and so on. Yet when I heard the news I still couldn't help but link him with Mario; that film is so vivid in my memories from childhood, just a bizarre piece of film-making.
