StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty - Cane and Rinse 71

“Hell, it’s about time”

From 1998 South Korea would never be the same again. It was that year that Blizzard decided to put aside their swords and wands for a brief moment, strapped themselves into some power armour, and brought out C-14 rifles. From the foundations laid down by WarCraft, StarCraft was born and met with much acclaim. Fans would be left waiting for over a decade for this celebrated game’s sequel. On top of that Blizzard had decided to turn the sequel into a quasi-trilogy. With the second StarCraft II installment, Heart of the Swarm, imminent, it’s time for Josh, Darren Gargette and guest StarCraft II enthusiast Scott Eunson to look back at 2010’s Wings of Liberty.

Additional audio used in this show is as follows:

Track 1: Terran 2 by Glen Stafford
Track 2: Public Enemy by Glen Stafford
Track 3: Zerg 3 by Glen Stafford
Track 4: Protoss 5 by Glen Stafford

Cane and Rinse 71 was edited by Darren Gargette.

Excellent coverage on the podcast. I was only ever a poor RTS gamer but still enjoyed the series, mostly for its single player campaigns. There the strategy of throwing wave after wave of men will still kinda work. I actually get into the game by watching a few matches with commentary and thought it looked exciting.

I don't suppose anyone else has checked out the Starcraft 2 series 'when cheese fails!' It is quite entertaining Hirt match videos with hilarious commentary, though I don't know of they still run as I havn't checked in a long whole.

When Cheese Fails was great but likewise, I've not seen it in a while.

Glad you liked the show and thanks for listening!

Which race are you, out of interest?

As in nationality? Indian.

Unless you mean what I prefer in the game, to which I sheepishly reply 'I fumble about with Protoss before quitting in frustration and threatening to hurl my laptop against the wall since I lost in such pathetic ways'

I'm pretty sure Dez is referring to in-game race rather than your real-life one.

Well I'm not so sure. Despite his chummy exterior I suspect that dez is actually a massive Nazi.
;) :o

Thanks for the positive feedback, I was very nervous taking the reins. Glad it turned out ok.

8-) Ah there is nothing like talk of secret nazis on an Internet forum in the morning.

I initially wanted to respond to the race request with 'I am a dog. On the Internet, nobody knows you are a dog.' I think it's a bit early to show how....oddly I think.

It really was a good episode. It was nice to hear some other folks who loved those news segment cutscenes. I don't have many gamer friends but the ones I spoke to found them too over the top to be funny. I think that's what made them so great.

Personally I am going to find the darker theme of 'Legacy of the swarm' tough after this semi-humorous approach, but I don't see how they can add a lighter touch to it either.

I don't want to imagine anything in the swarm in 'heat'....

Great show again, I for one (as Mr. Negative™) had worries about this show after the last two knocked it out of the park but you've stitched me up as it was brilliant! Great guest, solid editing and for all the nervousness emanating from Josh's twitter account over the previous few months I didn't sense it in the slightest. I look forward to more :D

As someone who isn’t especially fond of the RTS genre is this worth a shot? I am working my way through my backlog/iconic games that passed me by with the cane and rinse podcast list as a focal point.

Next up after my Shenmue and half life restrospectives is this game but I’m little bit apprehensive about forking out for it.

Even as a single player game on the easiest setting I feel this game is well worth a play. Hope you enjoy it and let us know what you think!
