...NOT!!
As those of you who go to our FACEBOOK PAGE will have already seen I was having a bit of a pop of my favourite French game designer over the weekend using mock-ups of Thomas Was Alone to both make a point and have a wee dig.
I have a bunch of other stuff to but I decided I've posted enough digs to Mr Cage on FB so I'll post them here instead.

I'm not even looking forward to talking about Heavy Rain or Indigo Prophecy, anymore.
I *am* looking forward to getting to the root of your undying hatred for this guy, though.

Hatred is too strong a word to use - I don't hate the man at all.
I do however, find the things he says and the way in which he only ever seems to hold his own games in high regard and not those of others quite grating and as such decided he is worthy of ridicule at every opportunity. At least until he makes good on his constant proselytizing.

It's weird that I don't like David Cage but love Fahrenheit and Heavy Rain. Am I Switzerland?

I genuinely lolled when I saw this thread
The guy has his fans and if his work makes people happy, great. But aye, he's a classic example of what happens when you buy into your own bullshit.

Haha! Those mock-ups are hilarious! Great stuff.
I'm far from a fan of Cage, and I've given him some harsh criticism before, but I'm hesitant to say any more myself. I'm certainly not a fan of the way he seems to want to make films instead of games, and how he thinks his games are better than everyone else's because of that, but I can't really bring myself to say much more than that. I've heard a lot of people criticise his writing, but I've not played his games, so I can't really say a word about it. Not that "gameplay" footage I've seen looks any good.
And although it's certainly fun to hear people tear Cage apart, and to generally hear a good rant, I sometimes get the feeling the hate for Cage gets a bit bandwagon-y on occasion. I think that mostly comes from being a fan of Jim Sterling and reading Destructoid a lot. He loves making fun of Cage, and Dtoid love joining in. Now any time an article goes up about Cage the comments are full of cries of "emotions!" and "polygons!" I won't pretend I haven't joined in once or twice, but it's starting to feel mean-spirited. Like Cage has just become an undeserved punching bag because it's the cool thing to do now.
That's not to say criticism of him isn't deserved. I'm just starting to get a bit tired of hearing the same shallow criticisms.
Off-topic question for Jay: I've noticed your new signature. What is that? "Cane and Rinse" in Japanese? Looks cool.

I'll admit he is a bit of a soft target for this kind of stuff and whilst I've had this axe to grind since 2010 (having previously vented on ye olde Gamerdork podcast) but I think it'll come to its natural end once we've done the Heavy Rain podcast for Issue 100.Scrustle wrote:That's not to say criticism of him isn't deserved. There is, of course, the possibility that Beyond could open old wounds again but since that game is only ever gonna be a rental for me and was never considered for a possible purchase, I doubt it'll inspire anywhere near the same level of hostility.
It is indeed Cane and Rinse in Japanese!Scrustle wrote:Off-topic question for Jay: I've noticed your new signature. What is that? "Cane and Rinse" in Japanese? Looks cool.
