Games Completed 2013
Re: Games completed 2013
Hell, I picked up a copy a few months ago; let me put it in and see for myself what it's like.

Re: Games completed 2013
Let us know. As I said I remembered it being quite off, but was blown away by how off it was part night, especially against stuff like DJ Hero.Roy42 wrote:Hell, I picked up a copy a few months ago; let me put it in and see for myself what it's like.
Also, remember it must be played on Normal, not Easy, as that resets to the beginning after only 3 stages (another thing I forgot!)
Re: Games completed 2013
I always just assumed I was poor at the game! It's still one of my favourites from that console. The driving lesson song is superb.

Re: Games completed 2013
Afternoon All!
I'm not as prolific as many of you guys due to limited gaming time these days – getting married in July and wedding planning ruthlessly, but you will at least see a lot of 3DS from me thanks to my daily train commute!
Here's my 2013 list so far:
Jan - Resident Evil 4 (Wii) – deserving of classic status
Jan – Limbo (360) – The car crash theory fits for me. Loved it
Feb - Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars (3DS) – My first turn-based strat for many years. Thoroughly enjoyed
Feb - Professor Layton & The Miracle Mask (3DS) – My first Layton. Enjoyed!
Mar - Rayman 3D – essentially Rayman 2! (3DS) – Still a great platformer nearly 14 years on.
Mar - Mario Kart 7 (3DS) – My first Mario Kart since ‘64’ so I’m not suffering wear-out like many. Great!
Apr - Halo 4 (360) – Like it, breathtaking visuals in places, but they’ve unbalanced the guns which has always been one of Halo’s strengths. Some of the big Prometheans feel like bullet sponges.
Apr - Enslaved: Odyssey To The West (360) – Love the vibrant world, story and characterisation, and I’m gutted we’ll never see a sequel. However, the gameplay is sub-Sands Of Time at best.
May – 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors (DS) – Eerie, creepy, engaging, clever, frustrating, stupid, waffling. Great!
May - Super Mario 3D Land (3DS) – Fantastic! Yes the standard levels are easy for a seasoned gamer, but the ‘S’ versions are tough and collecting all the stars is captivating challenge.
Currently getting stuck into The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time 3D (I never played the N64 version) and Ni No Kuni on PS3. Only a few hours in on each but thoroughly enjoying both so far!

Ah it's not about the quantity! I'd love to hear/read your opinion on Ocarina of Time as a newcomer. I really loved it on the N64 as it was my first Zelda experience and 3DS but maybe I'm just a fanboy?

Way of the Dogg
Blaxploitation? Bugsploitation more like. Already needs a rather hefty patch. Contacted the developers who contacted me back within 24 hours (from the Director of the studio, no less) who explained that it's been patched but can't be released yet due to third parties (I'm guessing Microsoft's vetting process - which didn't do a good job in the first place.)
Not awful, bought on a whim. Quite like the art style and it was nice to listen to a few Snoop (Dogg) songs too. I'm a fan of the rhythm genre. Miles off the quality of DJ Hero, but better than Parappa the Rapper (due to timing.)

Sure, but whereas I adore Parappa and pals, I fucking loathe Snoop Dogg. Only one rappin' canine allowed in MY house

Haha, it totally eluded me that they were both dog(g) s!
I do like some Snoop tracks and the few in this are pretty good, but nothing memorable like Parappa. It's purely better in terms of mechanics, but lacks that gormless smile factor of the Playstation classic.

Kirby's Epic Yarn
Beautiful looking game and just about as charming as any game I've played. Felt perhaps a little long near the end, but wonderful nonetheless.

I've played The Path before, but this time I wanted to complete all six girls' stories. These are pretty intense versions of Red Riding Hood, and far from easy to watch. Interesting.
Running total = 41
The running total includes additional and repeat playthroughs (NG+, alternative difficulties, alternative endings, co-op, etc.), but the list is spared them to keep it shorter.

Can Knockdown 3
Crap name but a great game. Looks absolutely lovely too! Three-Starred every level in all 4 environments. Definitely recommended.

Re: Games completed 2013
I got round to finishing Metroid Prime 2 Echoes in anticipation of the 30p Wii U version of Super Metroid. It's a really good game if a little overwhelming to get going when you start messing around with the light and dark worlds.
Never did complete it on the GCN so it put a smile on my face to finally see the final boss die.

It's a very well made sequel to Metro 2033. Perhaps almost misses some of the original's low budget/indie appeal and janky charm, but it definitely feels like the same world and characters, while being a much more player-friendly and solid shooter.

Glad to hear it. Something I'm really looking forward to playing, but am reluctant to pay out full price.

Re: Games completed 2013

It was almost worth the crappy first 3-4 hours for the no-holds-barred fun of the final hour. The 80's action film pastiche was entertaining throughout, but Ubisoft Montreal needed to think long and hard about parodying tired video game conventions that Far Cry 3 had already wheeled out, when Blood Dragon was so eager to follow suit. In Far Cry 3, the awkward story and painfully linear main missions spoiled the wonderful mechanics and setting for me. Whilst the tutorials and hand-holding remained an unbearable annoyance, this time it was the open world that seemed shoe-horned into a story-centric game.
When it hit it was some of the most fun I've had in a video game for a while, but that fun was inevitably sandwiched between cringes at some of the most bone-headed design decisions since Far Cry 3.

This will make for an interesting podcast. I loved Blood Dragon from the off.
