Did you play Hot Pursuit James? I enjoyed that one far more than any of the Burnouts (I haven't played Most Wanted btw).iwatttfodiwwfa wrote:Not seen anything of Need For Speed: Rivals, but Most Wanted (all 2hrs that I could stand) put me off NFS and Criterion. It looks very good looking back at the archived footage and even though I liked Most Wanted, this game looks like what Most Wanted should've been.

Re: PlayStation 4
Must admit I'm tempted by Need For Speed, reckon I may end up getting it in December when my discount Xmas vouchers come through.
Sarah's asked if there's anything we could play together, and as shooting people isn't her thing, reckon my Sainsbury credit may go towards Lego Marvel.

Re: PlayStation 4
Yep. Technically excellent, but I missed the open world. It had a marked change in tone too, so much so that I just didn't enjoy playing it that much. I'm sure I'm being overly harsh, but PGR3 and the Burnout games seemed to frustrate me less and were bags of fun.ratsoalbion wrote:Did you play Hot Pursuit James? Re: PlayStation 4
Ah, interesting. PGR3 felt dry as a stick to me, clinical and characterless - whereas I had a ridiculous amount of fun with HP's renegade racers versus the law stuff.
Rather than missing Paradise's open world I was glad to be rid of it in many ways, although I still need to go back and actually finish that game. It's forever installed on my PS3's HDD.

Re: PlayStation 4
Ha ha, sorry Karl. I did play and enjoy quite a bit of PGR2 though. I've owned all of them from MSR in fact, but my preference is just for even more fully 'arcadey' racers, and the addition of the roadblocks, EMPs and all that jazz in Hot Pursuit making it like a modern day Chase HQ was just sublime for me.
And I still have my treasured copy of Burnout 2 on the Xbox, with the extra Crash junctions

Rivals isn't Criterion. They have ceased all development of racing games it seems as they are now a small, 17 man team.iwatttfodiwwfa wrote:Not seen anything of Need For Speed: Rivals, but Most Wanted (all 2hrs that I could stand) put me off NFS and Criterion. Ghost created Rivals which, from what I can gather, has ex criterion employees there but is wholely its own studio now, based in Gothenburg.

Re: PlayStation 4
Ah, my mistake. Well, no, Wikipedia's mistake actually. Ghost, Ghost UK and Criterion are credited as co-development studios. Silly Wikipedia.

Re: PlayStation 4
Criterion are supposed to be in charge of the whole series, aren't they? Even if they're not developing them, they're supposedly overseeing them all, so their name gets plastered all over them. I'm sure EA think that slapping the Criterion logo all over the thing will help it sell copies too.

Re: PlayStation 4
Already having those 'do I get it on Xbox (One) or PlayStation (4)?' debates. And so it goes on...

So there are quite a few reports of DoA PS4 units going around, including a number of buyer reviews on Amazon. Possibly an inevitable result of so many machines being manufactured in short order, or possibly the machine has some design flaws that need addressing.
Or possibly a lot of hoo-ha about nothing of course, it's inevitable that a small percentage of units of any electronic device will be faulty.
I'm not overly concerned - it'll be under warranty after all - but it would be a bit of a bugger to receive a kaput console on launch day.
Apparently one thing to look out for is bent pins on the HDMI input...

Re: PlayStation 4
I don't think it's anything to get too worried about yet. It's early days, so it's inevitable some units will break. But we don't really know how many are, and since around this time everything about these consoles is getting jumped on by people acting like a pack of starving hyenas, blowing stuff out of proportion. That said, I have heard that some people are reporting that the HDMI ports on the back of the consoles simply aren't deep enough to plug a cable in to, which seems pretty ridiculous to me. Surely, that can't be a design flaw that Sony could have possibly not seen or fixed.

The HDMI flaw is easily remedied apparently: http://www.vg247.com/2013/11/16/ps4-som ... ing-flush/

Re: PlayStation Vita
Ok, so I can confirm - just in case anyone was wondering - that a PS Vita memory card works just fine, and doesn't appear to have lost any data, after going through the washing machine and tumble drier.

Re: PlayStation Vita
Ha ha! That's a relief.
I wouldn't guarantee that lack of data loss for everyone though.

Re: PlayStation Vita
Given the card never comes out my Vita I hope I never try this!!

Re: PlayStation 4
Criterion actually were involved on Rivals, but weren't the lead team. Criterion still handled the way the camera hangs on the cars for example.dezm0nd wrote:Rivals isn't Criterion. Re: PlayStation 4
There wasn't a single retail unit in the wild until just over a week before sale, that's always worrying. Especially when the devbox was actually quite different to the retail unit.ratsoalbion wrote:So there are quite a few reports of DoA PS4 units going around, including a number of buyer reviews on Amazon. There have been super loud ones, DoA ones, HDMI faulty ones (due to a none flush vertical piece of metal.)
This does suck, I was in the small batch of launch PS2's with faulty lasers which resulted in a knackered Day 1 PS2 and a copy of SSX killed by the faulty laser (both were replaced by Sony) so I know how it feels. I've always had issue with Sony consoles, but I'm still excited to be getting one day one because their customer service is second to none from experience, and of course the media leaps on stories of faulty units. I've joked on Twitter about his for the last month ("Only 3 weeks until we hear all the DoA units for 'x' consoles") :p
Re: PlayStation 4
Yeah, just been reading about this myself. Of course it's a concern, especially if you get a console that's utterly DOA. Am I cancelling my pre-order with Amazon? Hell no. I'm still all in.

Re: PlayStation 4
Ahh, i'll never forget that shitty feeling of getting a launch day PS2 and it not even working. What made it worse it was Colette that got it for me, she had to go to great lengths to get her Aunt in the UK to buy one and get it shipped over here. It was such a great surprise too as she doesn't game, so it was a immensely thoughtful thing to do. Then after all her trouble the fucking thing wouldn't even power up. I contacted Sony that day and a courier arrived the next day with a brand new PS2. Now thats customer service.
