Games Completed 2014
Re: Games Completed 2014
Super Castlevania IV(SNES ROM)-So I downloaded this a while ago with a bunch of other SNES games like super metroid megaman X,etc. This was the only one I didnt play so late last night I decided to give it a shot,I just finnished it now and guess what this game is kinda of great!I could never get on with the NES castlevania games because of how hard and archaic they felt but this game felt really good to play from the get go and while the dificulty certainlly ramped up in the ending with the boss rush and some ridiculus plataforming it never felt unmanageable,it kinda of felt like playing dark souls in way,the stages were also great especially the one where you're in Dracula's treasure cave(?) where you're basically using treasure chests as ground to walk I also love the little set pieces in the game like the chandeliers the falling bridge and some of the boss(which are almost all pretty cool) introductions these are small things but they made the game so much better for being there, and that soundtrack from stage one is already blowing your mind especially in moments like the final boss fight where the music starts to kick in at the end.Yeah for my first proper Castlevania I think this was pretty awesome

Bit of an odd one this because obviously I've played through countless iterations of SFII over the years with various characters. However, this was the first time I'd ever actually cleared the XBLA version and the first time (as far as I can recall) that I've ever cleared any version of SFII on the highest difficulty.
Took me a whole load of continues (I'm not very good at SFII) to get to M.Bison (Vega) as Ken. Then one time I was continuing I accidentally selected my own Bison for a mirror match and ended up winning with a load of cheesy Psycho Crushers. Ah well, two new Achievements (for 35G) on one of the earliest Live Arcade games anyway!

Credit is due, never managed that feat myself. Can't say how much I desperately wanted to accomplish this back in the 90's but I probably could tell you that more than 90% of the accumulated time that I tried was against Bison.

Glorious followup to one of my favourite games of the last few years. I'll be shocked if this isn't my personal goty this year.

I unintentionally skipped past two and a half worlds, but I beat NSMBU while visiting friends in Orlando last week. I don't think it was bad, certainly; something about it just lacks…soul, I guess. I think it's likely 2D Mario fatigue; the four NSMB games came out across…six years, I think, which is quite decently spaced for how much content is in each game. Unfortunately the things you can do with 2D run-and-jump gameplay just don't cover the 500 or so levels that span the four titles, and it doesn't really matter how many years are between releases in that case.
I also beat the final boss of Teslagrad. My friend played the rest of the game, but he couldn't beat the boss, so I stepped in and beat it because I'm good at videogames. The magnet platforming gameplay is fun, and I remember playing something very much like it several years ago; I don't know how much it is, but I think it's most likely worth picking up.
On the subject of Teslagrad, though, it was the first game made available through IndieBox, a service that will sell indie games in retro packaging: a box with a USB cartridge, soundtrack CD, manual and other goodies, delivered to you. It's a really cool idea that you should subscribe to; rapidly growing and it's gonna have a lot of cool stuff in the coming months.

A very good game, and a great history lesson on design, but I prefer the Zelda games that came after it.
God...I've only completed 6 games so far this year...dissertations take up a lot of time, huh?

I'm only on 4 so far, and that's including Titanfall's campaign and a really short iOS puzzler...Combine Hunter wrote:God...I've only completed 6 games so far this year...dissertations take up a lot of time, huh?
In my case the excuse is primarily Hearthstone, and also several games I've got bored of before finishing them.

I think the majority of the reviews were pretty much dead-on with this one. A slight but serviceable RPG wrapped up in some very generous fan service, and probably the funniest video game experience I've had. Relentlessly absurd, crude and foul-mouthed, and absolutely in a good way.

The Wolf Among Us: Episode 4.
Very short I thought with I'd say one stand out scene. Great cliffhanger though ready for the last episode

(note: only because we ended up with the final project ending 6 weeks earlier than we originally thought!)

A great game, but not quite as special as Bastion was for me.
