Super Mario Maker - Create, share and play levels with the community

Post by dezm0nd »

Let's make some levels!

Sharing between friends initially starts off with a 16 digit code, sadly. Type it in, play the level and follow the creator. From that point you can then follow that persons creations!

I made a level today, called Escape Artiste. It's alright.

Glad we have this thread, looking for forward to seeing what the community comes up with! I liked your level by the way, quite challenging.

I made a short and rather easy level called Turtletop Tangle: 43A7-0000-0023-B96A.

Edit: Forgot the last four digits!

Is there like an actual single player game attached to Mario Maker or is it literally just a creation tool for people to make and share levels?

There are some sample courses that Nintendo have made, which can be found in the 10 Mario challenge. It's quite good but not a true Mario experience in terms of quality.

My levels are designed to be tricky, yeah! I really enjoy getting stuck into the creation tool and refining the levels until I get bored :)

I need some more ideas for the Escape Artiste levels but I also like trying to make non gimmicky traditional levels, too!

Will play some of yours tonight. I'll give you a follow and star your courses, too!

I've just ordered my copy, £33.85 from Simply Games.
I actually prefer the idea of having the game installed on my Wii U (or at least on the 64GB flash drive I have attached to it).
But for £1 less than the eShop price I get a hardback art book, which to me is worth the minor inconvenience of putting the disc in when I want to play.

NB: Apparently the book is soft cover in US copies, for some reason.

Is it weird that I'm avoiding this cause it feels too much like the day job? :)

That's what put me off from getting it on day one Flabyo. But seeing how intuitive the GamePad controls are changed my mind, and it's the best level creator I've played. The one thing I'd say is that it isn't immediately clear to me how I unlock additional items for my levels.

I was considering this as a present for my niece and nephew. They don't really do the online thing yet as they are quite young. But it looks like just building the levels and playing them would be good fun?

The sidebar quote in the Eurogamer review sums it up reasonably well:
"Following feedback, Nintendo released version 1.01 patch on day one to remove some of the frustrations. Rather than waiting a day, you can now bring the delivery truck in in 15 minute intervals. Just lay down hundreds and thousands of blocks and be sure to use every new item and theme you are given to keep the deliveries running smoothly. You'll have all the course building items within around two hours rather than nine days if you keep laying down those blocks."
I'd just add that as far as I'm aware, the amount of blocks you lay down doesn't start counting until the game has informed you that new items are on the way.

Got another one up, this time in SMB3 style. "Brave the Cave!" it's called, and the code is B3BD-0000-0052-0304.

Just bought this today seeing as Starfox is now not on the horizon. Fully suspect I'll suck at it and be a poor level designer, but should be fun when the little one gets a bit older!
