It's good! It reminds me of bloodborne a lot right now, but I'm only in the opening of the game really. It also eases you in significantly more I reckon so.
Yep the aesthetic is like a marriage of BloodBorne and Dark souls 1 right now and Im liking it alot,but did annyone else noticed the clear asset reuse of BloodBorne here?

Its crashed for me 4 times now, on the PS4. Kinda weird.
The gravestones,for example they are clearly from Bloodborne but with a slightly different texture on it,some of the architecture is very similar and some of the enemies and areas too for example Undead Settlement,not saying it's lazy or that it's a huge issue but it's something I noticed but I dont know if that's the case or it's just they using the BloodBonre engine that makes everything look similar.
So I've never played a Souls game before. Well correct that, I've played DS1 on 360. Made the character, got killed, never went back because I have no idea what I'm doing. I was thinking about giving it another go. Where should I begin as a rookie? Should I start with 2 since that is on PS4? Or Bloodbourne or 3?

I'd start with BloodBorne if that's more convinient for you I saw many people that didnt get on with dark souls being able to get into the series with BloodBorne thanks to it being more offensive focused and generally fast paced and while Dark souls 3 is easier to get on gameplaywise I dont recommed starting with this one because it has many references and nods to the previous games(Dark souls 1 especially) and you would miss all of them,just today I had a great moment that would've meant nothing if I hadnt played Dark 1.,
On Dark souls 3,this feels like a combination of all the good things of the previous games,from the hub to the combat to the enemy&level design.Im really liking it especially the amount of NPCs
I'd say Bloodborne, it's where I started and it got me into the souls games. I would definitely go back and play the first DS before you play 3. It's amazing.
Not sure if anyone else is in the camp of thinking there was only one average game in the series so far but if you are my first 2 hours with 3 have been great and it feels lovely.
One thing that Im noticing is that this game feels very much like a Dark souls 1 sequel,not only because of the recurring familiar elements but the world feels the same and the setting is taking the main theme of Dark 1 to it's logical extreme,fire and now ash,it's funny that beside a few itens and small references Dark souls 2 is rendered pointless really it's like it never happened,kinda fitting I suppose.
This game is everything I ever wanted! A world like dark souls, map design like Bloodborne, the controls of dark souls 2, and the difficulty curve of Mount Everest.
Well the difficulty curve was my fault. I went the wrong way and when I was testing some weapons I re-equipped the wrong one answer was swinging an understanding upgrade long story for ages thinking the game might get too hard eventually
It's anyone else finding it emotionly draining? I keep finding really amazing things. I'm won't say what here
Im a good portion into the game if im getting the sense right, and good lord is it good. It really feels like a curtain call for the series to me. Little bits and throwbacks to demons and darks have me grinning like a fool. Agreed that this one is pretty depressing as well, didnt find bloodborne as opressive, but this one goes for the heart for me so far. Only thing im struggling with at the moment is how hollowing works this time around, dont quite get the numerical stat and its purpose.
Hollowing here is more of a interesting punishment or road to be taken then anything else,it's completely different then how it worked previously.
Im really enjoying the game so far it certainly had it's fair share of moments that took my breath away and left me grinning but I also has an equal amount of frustration thanks to performance issues and a couple of bugs also I may have unintentionally made the game alot harder on myself,I usually play dex build characters with no shields but I was trying to change things up in 3 but then the game puts a katana in my hands in the first 10 minutes,anyway I came up with a "build" called the flaming swordsman which would be a piromancer&samurai hybrid,the problem is that unlike dark 1 pyromancy now depends on faith and int and now there's another problem in the form of a mana bar so I had to split my points between Faith,int,Dex,End and Att and since they are all spread out it has been a slow progress for example Im level 50 and I placed exactly 1 point in Vigor,so yeah if I cant dodge it Im pretty much dead,especially because End doesnt govern equip burden anymore so Im dressed like a homeless guy with just rags so I can roll as fast as possible,so yeah some areas where dodging is difficult made my life a living hell! Other than that I did notice the game fells alot more linear then previous games,unless Im missing something major,you seem to follow a straight path with a few branch areas that lead to a dead end,it's not too bad but in the previous games if you were having trouble with an area there was at least 3 or 4 that you could try out instead which is not much of an option here.Lastly magic and miracles seem to be very underpowered,at least in the early to mid game.
Feels like a souls/borne greatest hits compilation so far (only 7 hrs in).
Its a good game, but at the same time I'm happy that the studio is moving on to do different types of games after this.
would love from to go back to doing first person perspective games, a Kings Field/Shadow tower game on PlayStation VR would be my dream project that From could announce.
So I got to a certain area in Dark souls 3 yesterday and I've been thinking about the lore aspect of it and I think I got to a conclusion,spoilers for Smoldering Lake:
So Smoldering Lake is this giant fiery area beneath the catacombs of Cathur it has these big Fire Pillars,a literal smoldering lake and it also has the Demon Ruins from Dark 1 inside it. The boss of the area is an Old Demon King and the arena is litered with calcified corpses of Stray and Tauros Demons,inside the ruins there are new denizes but you can find the same corpses in there along with dead capra Demons and some remaining Black Knights,in there you also find the Izalith Piromancy tome and more importantly you find the calcified corpse of the Daughter of Chaos of Dark 1 and a human like corpse beside her that has the Quelana Piromancy tome which to me pretty much confirms that it was Quelana herself there(btw as someone who always joins the Daughter of Chaos Covenant and has Quelana as one of the favorite characters in Dark 1 seeing that was pretty sad ) so this was pretty much Izalith but given some evidence especially how there seem to have been a big cataclysm judging from what happened in the ruins and I think Lost Izalith actually fell on top of Ash Lake. I think that's the case because both were seen from Tomb of the Giants only Izalith was visible at a higher point of it while Ash Lake was only visible at the lowest,and it was said that the gods built the world on top of the old one so I think that confrims Ash Lake as the deepest part of the world,the lava from Izalith probably corroded the floor over time and the weight of Izalith made it fall into Ash lake,so the fiery pillars in Smoldering Lake are not fire pillars,they are archtrees that were covered in lava as is the lake itself that became smoldering for the same reason,the only thing that's missing to confirm this is any dragon related iten but I havent found any despite running up and down the area.So did anyone found something like that in the area?And did anyone noticed something like this about other areas of the game?
If this truky is Fromsoft waving goodbye to souls for a while then it bums me out a bit. A little part of me hopes they'll pull a Kojima. Of course im excited to see them do other stuff, love another Armored Core or even an update to Lost kingdoms. Only time will tell! I feel your pain Todinho, the pyro scaling with FTH|INT burnt me too, didnt notice that little bit for a while.
Just finished my first run, went sword and board. The build stood up to most bosses well, but some were white knuckle. Gonna go pyro next, and try to piece out the lore, the ds2 stuff still has me puzzled
