The Wire never won any Emmys and The Shawshank Redemption never won any Oscars.
Better to be remembered and loved by fans, than win awards.

Have you guys ever considered reviewing retierd systems in one off specials ??
I'd like to hear the Master System for example get the Cane & Rinse treatment.

Re: Videogame Podcast Recommendations
A couple of folks have suggested it but it's not an idea I'm keen on.
All consoles have their must-haves and so I fear such a show would come down to listing games anyway.
Personally I'm not that interested in the boxes that play them, for me it's always ultimately about the individual games.
As for the Master System, I never owned one and only ever briefly played a handful of titles on Sega's 8-bit console.

I mentioned it before but the Retro Game Squad master system special is worth listening to.

Videogame Podcast Recommendations
I would really recommend Bonfireside Chat's Lovecraft special, even if you aren't a regular listener.
Talking about inspirations for a video game is nothing new, we do it on Cane and Rinse all the time. But I can't think of many times when a podcast has dedicated an entire episode/issue to examining the influence of one artist's body of work over another's in the world of games. (Please point me in the direction of said podcasts, if you know any.)
Gary and Kole use From Beyond, Call of Cthulhu and The Colour Out of Space as a jumping off point to talk about the ways in which Lovecraft's work influenced Bloodborne's narrative AND mechanical decisions. The result is fascinating listening. HIGHLY recommended. (Also, they do address the elephant in the room regarding Lovecraft.)

Easily my favourite single episode of a video game podcast released this year.

Retro Game Squad and Retro Asylum have both done Master System specials. Great episodes too.Suits wrote:Have you guys ever considered reviewing retierd systems in one off specials ??

Re: Videogame Podcast Recommendations
For some reason, I recently got nostalgic about the idea that I should have kept a diary documenting when I used to listen to podcasts regularly. I listen to a different podcast each commute day but my routine is the same week after week.
For example:
Monday I listen to Harry Shearer's Le Show
Tuesday I listen to Giant Bomb
Wednesday I listen to Simon Mayo & Mark Kermode/Danny Baker
Thursday I listen to Gameburst/UK Anime Network
Friday I listen to Relay FM's Remaster
Saturday I listen to Cane & Rinse
I can't remember the exact days that I listened to old podcasts since 2009 so instead, I wanted to write down all the podcasts that I used to listen to but for whatever reason I don't anymore:
Stage Clear
Digital Cowboys
Gamer Dork
All About The Games
Game Club UK
Dark Zero
Eurogamer
Games 4 All
Gamespot UK
Videogamer: Back On Topic
Guardian Film Weekly
MSN Gamecast
Ready Up
Guy Cocker Podcast
Celluloid Heroes
God Is A Geek
Raidspawn
Virtual
Chet & Jon's Reassuringly Finite Playlist
Geek Planet Online: One More Go
Like my Transformers collection, I thought there was more.
Gameburst had a recent anniversary, I think it was five years and I said that someone should make a Rock Family Tree diagram showing what previous podcasts the current presenters used to be on.

Interesting that you used to listen to Dark Zero but didn't migrate to Midnight Resistance - any particular reason?

Re: Videogame Podcast Recommendations
It has been X amount of years since I listened to Dark Zero but I think the reason was I gradually came to the conclusion that there was too much talk off topic from video games for my liking which put me off from trying Midnight Resistance.

Re: Videogame Podcast Recommendations
Fair enough. When I listen in they tend to be quite focused on the whole these days I would say.
Can't believe you wait six days before listening to each new Cane and Rinse though - I'm raging here!

Re: Videogame Podcast Recommendations
Would it help if I confessed that I have a repeat listen of the Cane & Rinse podcast on Sunday evenings while watching the Italian football?

Re: Videogame Podcast Recommendations
Heh, nice!
Of course I'm joking. We're happy however people want to consume the show - that's the beauty of both the medium and our particular format.

Re: Videogame Podcast Recommendations
Thought I'd mentioned this, but Joypod is basically back under the name of The Computer Game Show. It's still good.
