Here's the latest episode of our weekly podcast dedicated to videogame music – Sound of Play

For many of us, it’s hard to think of almost any videogame without our minds conjuring up the music that accompanied it. What we aim to bring you with Sound of Play is a diverse sample of our favourite pieces from the many air-punching, spine-tingling, tear-jerking and grin-inducing videogame soundtracks we’ve heard over the years. Of course it’s not just about what we like, so if you venture over to our forum at caneandrinse.com you can put forward your favourites and we’ll start to include a selection in the playlist for each show.

This show’s presenters were Ryan Hamann and Karl Moon,

along with community contributions from Tleprie, Flabyo, and KSubzero1000

Track listing for this show is as follows:

Track 1: Pull Up a Chair by Peter McConnell - Heathstone: Heroes of WarCraft, 2014
Track 2: Talking with Ghosts by Kazumi Totaka & Shinobu Tanaka - Luigi's Mansion, 2001
Track 3: Tooth and Claw by Robin Beanland - Killer Instinct, 1994
Track 4: Burning Halloween Town by Manabu Namiki - Deathsmiles, 2007
Track 5: Neverending Journey by Nobuo Uematsu - Lost Odyssey, 2008
Track 6: Enter the Twins by Brian Min - The Cave, 2013
Track 7: Far Away by Jose Gonzalez - Red Dead Redemption, 2010

Yay, Phendrana Drifts made it in! :)
Guess I'll have to leave more substantial descriptions along with my future suggestions, then.

I tend to forget how good the music in Hearthstone is because I've heard it so much now. I actually have it turned off when I play, but I still know every piece backwards because Blizzard use it constantly in their streaming of tournaments etc...

As for Kinect Star Wars... there's a hell of a tale there if the many (many) studios involved in that one want to tell it... (I think us at Lionhead were one of the few MS owned studios that didn't do anything for it). I blame it, and the awful version of Steel Battalion Capcom put out, for souring everyone on even the *possibility* that a Kinect game could be good. Didn't matter if anyone actually did crack the issue, once those two games were out the thing was basically dead in the eyes of the consumer.

There were actually a couple of decent-ish games in Kinect Star Wars. The dancing game was just Dance Central, so, of course, that engine works pretty well. Their version of Star Wars Episode I Racer wasn't bad, either.

I'd like to thank Ryan for kindly putting I'm Hans Solo at the end and reminding people that they could stop listening.

Despite this, I caught myself halfway through the track still listening and asking myself what the hell I was doing.
