1. I think, yeah, the art style of Symphonia had me tricked, with it's simple, cel-shaded graphics.KSubzero1000 wrote: ↑June 6th, 2018, 7:00 pmThat's really interesting to me because I think that JRPGs are particularly prone to mature themes and writing. Xenogears, Suikoden and FF Tactics have heavy political plots with strong philosophical undertones. I haven't played it, but my understanding is that the Xenosaga trilogy went even deeper on the Nietzschean themes and motifs. Hell, FE Path of Radiance is probably one of my favorite kid-friendly political dramas in pop culture. Eternal Sonata is a heart-wrenching re-imagining of the last living hours of one of the greatest composers in history. NieR, Lost Odyssey, etc...
I wonder where this common (mis)conception stems from. Is it the art style?
2. I guess I made part of that assumption based on the fact that it was on the Gamecube.
3. The last JRPGs I played were Trails in the Sky 1 and Worlds of Final Fantasy, so I think I was just on this weird kick.
I never played the sequels, but, yes, Xenosaga was very dramatic. One of my favorite, non-Final Fantasy jrps of all time.
