I think Ghosts of Tsushima looks great, but I agree with Alex79uk that the Sony conference was disappointing.

Last of Us - again.

Ghosts - again

Death Stranding - again

Kingdom Hearts - again

Spider-man - again

It's been the same bloody games for the last 3 years. Show something new!

I wasn't interested in most of the MS games, but at least a lot of them hadn't been announced before. Even the Nintendo direct had more new games than the Sony conference.

I’d echo that sentiment. The Sony conference was mainly more of the same and although I liked some parts of it the cutaways to the awful presenters were painful.

On reflection though although the MS conference was more entertaining the games on show at the Sony conference were more my cup of tea.

Changing Cyberpunk from a Deus Ex style first person RPG into a third person game isn’t something you can really do this far into development and not have it feel pretty broken.

Impressions from those who got to see it today are good though.

Anyway, I got my Soul Calibur 6 release date so I’m happy.

They just confirmed that the RE2 Remake wont have any fixed camera angles or tank controls and that they are doing away with the zapping system. Might as well call this Resident evil 8 now I dont care.
...FUCK.

I was secretly hoping they might offer two separate modes within the same engine. I am so disappointed. How hard can it be to follow the greatest remake in video game history? :(

Edit: Would you mind sharing your source when you have the chance?

I'm actually quite pleased Cyberpunk is first person now. Also, I think the Resi2 remake suddenly sounds a lot more interesting too. Although the trailer disappointed me slightly as I thought for a moment we were seeing a really original idea of seeing a game play out from the point of an outside observer (ie. a mouse)

Oh Nintendo.

No real surprises at all - there were games announced, I acknowledge that however.

Of the things I knew nothing of, these were the stand out things that I can say something about;

Daemon X Machina - This certainly looks like something, not my cup of tea, although I think the art style is pretty cool. And experiencing games that I don’t usually play is fun, so I’d be interested in trying it at least.

Super Mario Party - Is cool, in the correct environment. My own personal situation, often being expected to throw something on that friends and other couples that come around for dinner can enjoy - this looks like it will give Puyo Puyo and Overcooked a run for it's Mushrooms. I’ll get this, I know I will.

Fire Emblem – Yep, great, Spring 2019.

Smash – Yeah, cool, I’ll get this even though I’m not a huge fan. It was a lot of info. Boring info for an E3 Direct I feel.

Pretty much everything else was already leaked and discussed or we know about already. Xenoblade 2 DLC is something hat will never appeal to me personally as even after I put 40 hours into the main game there is plenty more meat on that to be consumed before I’d even ever consider adding more.

I kind of feel Smash should have been it’s own separate Direct, just goes to show how much Nintendo has to show I suppose. Lets hope the momentum hasn’t totally evaporated and it’s just a further step away from the traditional E3 process for Nintendo which may be followed up with a late summer Direct that shows something of an intention that titles like Pikmin, Animal Crossing & F-Zero are being worked on.

Other than that, no matter how I process it, I feel left disappointed by Nintendo this time around for what is clearly a changing time for the traditional E3 show.

I actually kind of wish they had had Smash as a separate direct and spent more time showing the stuff they showed in the quick montage.

I am impressed with the work they're doing on Smash though and the thought they've put into it.

I didn't bother to pick up the Wii U Smash and I was indifferent on this until the direct. I will probably grab this day one now.

As for Cyberpunk, I have no attachment to the source material and I thought the Witcher 3 was very good but massively overhyped. I will wait and see, though I would prefer 3rd person if I had a preference.

Love reading everyone's feelings on the various conferences. So many mixed emotions!

Really strange year this for me with no really big 'WOW' moments, but overall as a combination of the games on show and the show itself I'd have to say Xbox delivered over and above the rest by a decent margin.

Yes there were no big exclusive surprises on show, but you can't magic games of a hat and the fact they backed up the exclusive franchises they already have (Halo, Forza, Gears, Crackdown, Ori, Sea Of Thieves, Cuphead) with lots of great third party surprises (Cyber Punk! DMC 5! Dying Light 2!) certainly demonstrated a great breadth of games beyond what was shown elsewhere. This combined with the announcement of them buying & building an impressive first party studio roster, plus the fact they had the tightest most well paced show of them all, gives them the win for me.

Other than that, Nintendo disappointed me (not a Smash guy and nothing much else new to get excited about), and Sony was just weird! All four of those showcased titles are 'must plays' for me so I can't fault the potential quality of the games - they look awesome - but rightly or wrongly E3 isn't just about the games, it's almost as much about how you deliver those games. They did that in a disjointed, badly paced manner with an overall tone that bordered on arrogance and self congratulation from a bunch of execs that clearly fancy themselves as celebrities (Shawn Layden, Sid Shuman - I'm looking at you!). Nasty flashbacks of old, up-their-own-arse, early PS3 era Sony!

Of the third parties - Ubisoft was fun with some great looking games, Bethesda had some cool stuff delivered quite poorly, and EA & Square were largely terrible.

Roll on E3 2019!

All of the references to The Witcher 3 are getting tiresome
Agree. Cyberpunk isn't The Witcher! It's not in the same series or related to it in any way. It's just coming from a developer who's previous games were third person, but why can't they change that? They're the artists doing their thing and if first-person's a deal breaker for people then don't buy game when it's done.

I'm not saying people can't be disappointed if FPS' really aren't for them and they were hoping for third person (especially feel for those who get motion sickness), but the folks who are actually angry about it need to get over it. Maybe the game just isn't for you - move on. Play Assassin's Creed Odyssey instead. That looks cool...

For the want of a better, less widely used term - I think it's easy to 'Win' E3, it's harder and more important to deliver on E3.

Ah, okay. But that could also be interpreted as them saying that the OTS camera is the primary camera. Fairly trustworthy leaks are suggesting that the fixed camera angles have been apart from the project since the beginning, and that they are still being worked on at the moment (as a separate mode, of course).

I know there's only a small chance, but I refuse to give up hope.

More thoughts to follow after watching the two upcoming gameplay demos on https://www.twitch.tv/CapcomUSA later today.

I wouldn't say the winning is easy, but you're 100% right that delivering on the promises made is much MUCH harder!

Anyone seen that FF7 remake around?

Me neither...

I enjoyed Nintendo's Direct but I fully appreciate that if you're not interested in Smash, it was probably pretty bad for you...

And Ghost Of Tsomething looked awful to me! Certainly not a current gen title, let alone one released as we heard towards the end of the PS4 lifespan.
Seriously? This looked awful to you?

My issue with Ghost of Tsushima is twofold: It seems to be a very cinematic open-world game, which are already not my cup of tea. I could look past that however if the setting proved to be fresh and interesting, but feudal japan-themed action games seem to be the hot new thing nowadays, and Nioh 2 + Sekiro being set to release within the same time frame kinda took the wind out of GoT's sail for me.

Still, the trailer looks gorgeous and the Mongol Invasion period could make for a very interesting story if done right. Tentatively looking forward to it.

Yeah, I'm not necessarily saying that it looks utterly incredible, or that it's definitely my cup of tea, but I was surprised at Alex' especially negative description as regards to the technical/aesthetic side.

Also yes, current trends in gaming - outside of battle royale - definitely feudal Japan and prosthetic/augmented/robotic arms. Often both at the same time.
